The Blades of Balance
Forged and empowered with the powers of the Logrus and the Pattern, or by embodiments of the Balance between the two, these blades are the newest of primal weapons. It is unclear if they are 'limited' in possible number, and, if so, what that number might be. They vary far more widely in their powers and creation than Patternblades and Logrusfoils. They number among the [Great Weapons]?.
- Once a blood-soaked blade hungry for the blood of the innocent, the sword known as "Hummingbird" was reforged in Beleriand by the Quartet and the Valar, remade into Covenant, a blade for the preservation of peace and the formation of alliances. It is a slightly curved blade made of white steel, inlaid with holy verses of the Unicorn on one side and of the Serpent on the other. It is said to warn of imminent treachery and the hostility of others, and it sets the blood of peace-breakers and traitors on fire, if they break oaths sworn upon it. (Though sadly, you have to successfully hit such traitors first...). It was typically carried by Lady Talia of Alars, to whom it was traded to regain Withywindle. Now that she is extremely dead due to the Logruswrack, it may have passed to someone else in Alars or been lost in the confusion.
Shinjin (aka Faith)
- Forged by the Quartet, combining the powers of Order and Chaos, Shinjin is a wooden hilted longsword with two sharp edges. (It possesses a wooden sheath as well, into which it can slide so as to appear to be simply a bokken). One side is embossed with a segment of the Pattern, the reverse is decorated by an inlay of Pindin, the Serpent of Fire. Shinjin seems to have the power to cut apart the powers of both Order and Chaos, but does no special damage to such beings. It does, however, set Outsiders on fire. It is rumored to also function as a spell rack. Most commonly carried by Princess Motoko, all four of the Quartet seem to have a special link to it.
- Forged by Moonshade from the flesh and blood of Random and her son Nemo, Shinnou was converted to a demon jewel blade after being fused with the Melnibonean jewel demon Shabazz. It accidentally became the newest blade of balance when Random resurrected the two holy trees of the Valar (one empowered with Logrus, the other with Pattern), forging a bond between them and her, and in the process, Shabazz. It has displayed enhanced destructive and defensive abilities, can shift into different forms as long as the forms are not mechanically complex, can conceal itself by fusing with Random's body, and has the ability to rack and cast spells. The blade can be further enhanced by fusing with anything Random devours while fused with Random.
- Forged by Kanna under mysterious circumstances, possibly the result of her hanging from Yig. Beryllina can shapeshift into a number of forms, including a gauntlet and a crossbow. It does not appear to favor any one group in the infliction of damage, instead dealing massive injury to any target it is turned against. Kanna still bears it.
