ContikiAnime Expo 2000

Well, here's a day by day report on both my Contiki and AX trip(s)!! The photos are at the bottom of each page!

3rd July 2000

Thank goodness that when I woke up this morning, my back was fine and back to normal! Yay!!!

Another late start (funny about that!), and I packed most of my luggage. Tomorrow I was leaving... :(

But today was a day of walking around, and basically not doing much again. Hanging out at the dealer's room, watching the otaku walking by, hanging around the Lost Bar. A quiet day.

Every so often, I'd run into him or Kevin or any number of my other friends. I'm still amazed, as there were almost 10,000 people there! (9,227 attendees, to be exact.)

For lunch, I managed to meet Kevin and buy some more of that Disney Hotel trolley food, before joining Scott, Toshi and Trish (not Trisha!) for drinks and eating some of their lunch that they couldn't eat!

Well, the Viz crew were leaving, so it was starting to be a sad time again... we said goodbye, and knew it would be somewhat depressing to be at the party without them all... :/ Damn Viz for making them return before the convention was over! Bad Viz!!

The ones who were left gathered at the Lost Bar that night before it was off to dinner at Yamabuki - we all wanted to have Japanese. So why not?! Thankfully Trisha had her 10% off card, and remembered to use it!! ^_^

We had lots of fun, talking and eating the beans before dinner, and drinking sake, getting the waitress to take our photos... and we even sat in the tatami room, kneeling on the cusions (or cheating with the space under the table, and sitting normally!)

Well, I wanted sukiyaki for dinner. Scott's boss (Julian) and I shared the sukiyaki, as it was for two or more people, only. The waitress eventually put all the food on the table, serving everyone, and left us with the vegetables and meat on plates, the stock and a portable cooker. She didn't even start it off for us, despite us waiting for her to come back and start it all going. I had no idea how to start it - here, at Yamato, they do the first serve for you, and then you do the rest yourself. I wasn't too happy with the lack of service, at that point.

It was nice... we did eventually get our food eaten (when the others were already on sweets!)... and I ordered an ice-cream.

It didn't come. Man... there was only one waitress in our area, and she was obviously overworked. But I was still pissed off. That meal was pretty damned expensive, and the lack of service (and ice-cream!) was disgraceful.

I refused to tip, despite the fact that it seems to be a law in the US. It was just not good enough. :/

Dinner over, we went back to the hotel, and saw the fireworks again. ^_^

The last night's party wasn't too bad, but there was a lack of drinks (running down, and as it was the last night, no replenishment of supplies), and the lack of some of my friends...

Trisha and I wanted to go to Disneyland the next day, so we left somewhat early (only 2am!) and retired... I was also to go home tomorrow, so I did need my sleep. A long, long, long and tiring plane trip was ahead of me...
