9th July 1999
We left the Grand Canyon, after getting a group photo, and headed down to Las Vegas via the Hoover Dam.
When we got to the dam, it was overcast, but still a pretty hot day. It was interesting, driving over the dam and you've left Arizona, and ended up in Nevada. A bit like crossing the Murry River from Victoria into New South Wales.
But we had a look around... an interesting place to see, even if you can see dams all over the world. We didn't have too long there, so we just had a quick look, and didn't get to go on the Hoover Dam tour.
(BTW, who on earth named the dam after a vacuum cleaner? *grin*)
After the dam, we were off to Las Vegas! Yay!!
When we finally got there, we got to our hotel and unpacked (and some of us did laundry) before getting back on the coach for a city tour and then buffet dinner at the Excalibur.
During the tour of the bright light city (the electicians must make a killing!), we ended up stopping at a little wedding chapple. (Geeze those places are so tacky!) Here, Elvis turned up to sing a few songs (yay, it was fun! How can you go to Vegas and not see Elvis?), and he ended up calling out two names from the tour - Robyn and Jens - and "married" them!! *grin*
Poor Robyn and Jens got teased a bit, and told how they make a great couple, and that they had to sit together on the coach and everything. I lamented over the loss of my room mate, and how I'd just have to put up with being in a room by myself, etc. ^_^
Anyway, after that, some of us went to watch a Vegas show called 'Splash'. Yes, the start had something to do with mermaids, but we came a little late so we didn't really get to see what that was about.
But the show had it all - singers, a magician, motor bike dare devils, comedians and, of course, topless dancers!
After the show, we all headed to a night club, called "The Beach" for the evening. Part way through, some of us decided that we could go to a night club anywhere, and so left and headed out to the casinos.
We ended up at the Luxor, where I spend $2 on some machines, and ended up winning $10! Yay! I beat the casino - I stopped playing that night! ^_^
We got back to the hotel at about 5am, when the sun was just about to come up (maybe it was the false dawn).
Then we finally got some sleep.
