ContikiAnime Expo 2000

Well, here's a day by day report on both my Contiki and AX trip(s)!! The photos are at the bottom of each page!

27th June 2000

Another sleep in, as at 2.30am I was awoken by my new room mate entering the room. The idiots at the front desk didn't give her another room, for some unknown reason, like they should have! Argh. Not fun being woken up at that time of the morning, just because the staff have no clue. -_-

Anyway, after the sleep in, I got up and then I was ready for a bit of sight-seeing around Waikiki and Honolulu, on the trolley-bus!

We went around from my hotel, past Diamond Head, and along the back near the river. The bus stopped at various sight seeing places, such as the Dole Cannery (I always think of the dole - people getting money from the government are on 'the dole' - when I see the name of that cannery!

The place I ended up visiting, though, was the Honolulu Academy of Arts. They had an Egyptian display going on, so I went to see that. It cost a pretty penny (US$12!) But I still enjoyed it.

It was one of those museam-like places with all of the items on display behind the glass, and where you had headphones to listen to as you walked around, looking at the displays. It took quite some time to go through, and was the major chunk of my day!!

Didn't take any photos, though - a sign said 'No Cameras'. :p

They had a mummy there, too, in another part of the building. I heard two women talking, one saying that she wasn't going to see it, because of how horrible it would look, and that it would make her sick!

Silly person - the mummy was totally covered up in its wrappings! (As per usual, at least from the museums I've been to... Egyptologists tend to think it bad form to open up mummies these days!) There was an X-Ray there, but definately nothing gross!

Afterwards I caught the next trolley-bus, and went to see the rest of the tourist spots (I didn't get out though), except for a quick stop at Hilo Hatties, while the bus stopped for 15m. I nipped in and got a free fruit juice, and a free shell lei given to me! I'd have liked to have looked around, but I didn't have the time...

The bus came back, via China Town and the harbour, where there was a great view of Waikiki.

My room mate, Coral, and I met up back at the room (she was rather tired!), and went to Duke's for dinner. It was a two hour wait, as we didn't think to book ahread!

Anyway, after dinner, we returned to the hotel and went to sleep.

Diamond Head Diamond Head as seen from Honolulu Harbour. It was quite a beautiful afternoon, as you can see! ^_^
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel The Royal Hawaiian Hotel - one hotel you can't miss - it's pink!! The Royal Hawaiian has been around since 1927. I had to take a photo of it, while waiting for dinner at Duke's!
