EGYPT REVEALED, ET AL - INFORMATIONAL REPORT #4 DATED 05/13/02 REGARDING: Discovering Archaeology, Archaeology Today, Egypt Revealed, The Glory of Ancient Egypt (ordered through Circa Media) and Dinosaur Magazines. ALSO REGARDING: Egypt Revealed Expedition Tour of Egypt that was canceled in August of 2001 and no refunds yet given. ALSO REGARDING: Seven Wonders Travel Dear Fellow Subscriber or Interested Party: First, some clarifications. Apparently there has been posted to the various Archaeological and Egyptological list serves that I am either (a) putting together a class action, or (b) going to get everybody's subscription money back. Neither of these statements is completely accurate. What I AM doing is attempting to give the proper legal authorities enough information so that they will examine what Jeff Leach has been up to, and bring him to court for trial. I sincerely doubt that any of us will receive refunds on our magazine subscriptions however, one can always hope! I believe the best we can hope to do at this time is to put Mr. Leach in a position where he will not be able to continue his various "scams". And, at this time, the BEST WAY you can help in that goal is to file your complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (www.ifccfbi.gov) as mentioned in my Informational Report #3. This is especially true in light of the fact that the Attorney General's office in El Paso, Texas and the Better Business Bureau in Albuquerque, New Mexico have advised me in their letters of April 8th and April 16th respectively that they have not been able to "resolve your problem" and that if I wish to pursue the matter further, they suggest I contact the Small Claims Court, a Private Attorney or the New Mexico Attorney General (whom I already filed a Complaint with on February 22, 2002). I have supplied the New Mexico Attorney General's office with Informational Reports #1 through #3 plus copies of all relative material. I have also requested they advise as to the status on the matter and whether or not they are in a position to do anything about this fraudulent conduct or if I need to contact another legal authority. I have yet to hear anything from their office. Additionally, I have heard nothing back yet from the Internet Fraud Complaint Center after contacting them to see if I could discern the status of their investigation. My contact with them was just one week ago; I will advise in my next report what, if anything, I hear back from them. By the way, thus far there are 106 of you that I am aware of who have been financially impacted by Jeff Leach's conduct and 22 of you are just "interested parties." That's quite a number and I'm sure there are many, many more out there. In my last Informational Report dated April 11, 2002, I mentioned that I had been receiving numerous inquiries as to what, if any, relationship there was between Seven Wonders Travel/Egypt Revealed Tours/Janice Brannon and Egypt Revealed Magazine/Egypt Revealed Expeditions/Jeff Leach. I had initially written to Janice Brannon about this issue, among other things on March 26, 2002. On April 15, 2002, I received a phone call from Janice Brannon. After a rather lengthy conversation, Janice authorized me to release the following information: She stated that she is not involved with Jeff Leach or Egypt Revealed Magazine and that Jeff Leach had volunteered to be the Master of Ceremonies at the first Egypt Revealed Symposium in Chicago (October, 1999) and from that he took the name Egypt Revealed for his magazine. The other issues of money owed by Seven Wonders Travel to Ancient Egypt Studies Association (AESA) members has not, per contact from those members, been rectified as of this date although Janice assured me she would be taking care of that matter. When (and if) it is, that will be stated in a future report. Interestingly, I had received an E-Mail from an ARCE/North Texas Chapter officer on April 11th after preparing Informational Report #3 regarding the Egypt Revealed Symposium held in Dallas in 2000. I was informed that, "At the Egypt Revealed symposium held at Dallas, they brought in a ton of books and oversold ...taking orders...paid up front by cash, check and credit card...and then delivered few or none of the prepaid orders. One of our ARCE members was hit for hundreds of dollars in losses." During my phone conversation with Janice Brannon, I queried her about this issue. She initially emphatically said that that statement was incorrect, and then said that Jeff Leach was the one selling books but to her knowledge none of the checks were cashed nor the credit cards processed for book purchases that were not processed/delivered at the Symposium itself. One of your fellow subscribers mentioned to me that she had ordered books at the symposium, charged them to her credit card but she didn't think the charge was ever processed. If any of you ordered books at the Dallas Symposium which you paid for but never received, I would be interested in knowing about it. As for the various magazine web sites and domain hosting, there has definitely been some recent activity. In late March, the Archaeologytoday.net web site was registered to Circda (sic) Media with a contact of Jeff Leach in El Paso, Texas. As of May 4th, it is now registered to Tucows, Inc. Fortunately, the web site at www.archaeologytoday.net is still not functional. The domain name Egyptrevealed.com is still registered to Jeff Leach at the El Paso, Texas address and the web site remains non-functional however, as recently as December, 2001 a subscription for Egypt Revealed Magazine was mailed in and the subscriber's check was processed through the bank on January 28, 2002. This MAY be the most recent activity regarding Egypt Revealed Magazine and the continuation of accepting subscription money without supplying the magazine. Unfortunately for those unwary subscribers out there, Dinosaur Magazine at www.dinosaurmag.com is still up and running and has updated its web site at least twice since March 25th. The latest version is still accepting subscriptions (if you click on "Subscribe Today!") and the contact information for the magazine is now: Dinosaur Magazine, 2340 Hwy. 180 E., PMB 275, Silver City, NM 88061 which is an address previously unknown to me. An address similar to this (2430 Hwy. 180 E.) was passed on to me by an individual who had fairly recently received an E-Mail from Jeff Leach who stated this Silver City address was his new mailing address. A phone call to the Grant County Tax Assessor's office in New Mexico revealed this property is not cross-referenced in their database (under either 2340 or 2430) and without a legal description, they cannot ascertain who the owner of the property is. The person I spoke with at the Grant County Tax Assessor's office stated that their "cross reference" system is not totally complete at this time. Returning to the Dinosaur Magazine web site, it is showing subscription prices are $19.95 for one year and $29.95 for two years for U.S. subscribers and $26.95 for one year and $43.95 for two years for International Subscribers. The FAX number showing is 212-208-2476 which is the same FAX number previously used for Circa Media, Egypt Revealed and Dinosaur Magazine. This is also the same area code showing on a FAX transmission sent from Jeff Leach to the New York attorney who is investigating the canceled trip to Egypt through Egypt Revealed Magazine. Apparently you can program your FAX machine to show any phone number you wish it to. It doesn't necessarily mean you are FAXing from the location of that area code. Also, the Dinosaur Magazine web site is soliciting advertisements. Not good news for the uninformed potential advertiser! Formerly, the domain name was registered to Egypt Revealed with a contact name of Jeff Leach at the El Paso, Texas address with an E-Mail of jleach@humanoasis.com. The domain name is now registered to Tucows, Inc. Likewise, the Circamedia.net domain name registration has been moved from a registrant of Egypt Revealed/Jeff Leach in El Paso, Texas to Tucows, Inc. That web site remains non-functional as of this date. And, finally, Jeff Leach's Humanoasis.com has also moved its domain name registration, this time from Human Oasis, LLC at #10 Sanctuary Road, Silver City, New Mexico 88053 505-388-4801 to Tucows, Inc. The Human Oasis web site is still up and running and selling services for $21.95 per month. It shows a customer support number of 877-646-3446 which is a 24-hour toll free number which I have thus far not been able to verify through QwestDex. Tucows, Inc., according to their web site at www.tucows.com "is an Internet channel management company providing wholesale digital products to Internet providers and web hosting companies on a global basis." They are headquartered in Toronto, Canada with offices in Flint, Michigan and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. They have nothing to do with Jeff Leach or his various businesses. I'm afraid this is all I have to report at this time. I am hopeful that I will hear back soon from the New Mexico Attorney General's office and am copying them with this Report. I am likewise hoping to receive some communication from the Internet Fraud Complaint Center as to the status of my complaint filed with them and what, if any, action is being undertaken. Lynne A.
