Kunoichi's Hot Site Picks

Here are a few reviews of my favourite Hot Sites... can you check them out?

The Hunger Site:
This is a different, but (I think) selfless website. From the Hunger Site, you can donate a cup of food a day to stop another human being from going hungry. All it takes is one 'click' (as they say)! It doesn't take much of your time, and you'll be helping someone, somewhere in the world.

You can also go to The Rainforest Site from this page, and 'donate free land' to protect the rainforest.

Now they also have the new Kid's AIDS Site ('donate free care'), Child Survival Site ('donate vitamin A') and Breast Cancer Site ('donate free mammograms'). A click a day keeps the bad things at bay! More information (for all sites) can be found at:

http://www.thehungersite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/HungerSite

Travel.com.au Member Community:
It's small, Australian and just getting started... but if you want to help give people information and tips of traveling, or if you want people to share tips with you, have a peek at the URL below!

Topics cover Travel & Holiday Reports, Travel Tips, Hotel Tips, Frequent Flyer Tips and Travel Rumours.

Contiki:
Vacations to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, America and Canada only for 18 to 35 year olds.

I've been on two Contiki tours so far - the "Wild Western" and, of course, the "Hawaiian Discovery" trip. They were both very different, but both a lot of fun... with people my own age, too!! (Though it sucks for those poor under 21 year olds who can't go out at nights with the rest of us, when in the USA! Especially those poor non-Americans who can legally drink at home from 18...)

If they had a Japan tour, I'd be on that one next year, but it doesn't look like they do Asia just yet. *pout*

But Contiki is a great way to not be stuck with a bunch of people 20 years older than you, and want to get out and see the country. (Though I've heard that people on the European tours tend to drink themselves into oblivion, for some odd reason. Why pay the money to go on a tour, and just drink the whole time?!) ^_^;;

I highly recommend looking at this tour group if you are looking for a fun holiday in the near future (and if you're within the age brackets, of course!), and want to go out partying at nights! Why just tour, when you can party and tour!? *grin*

Take a look and see what they have to offer!

Themail.com:
This is a cute little site that I found that will let you make money for using the web-based e-mail program, and for getting your friends to use it, too!

I tend to use it for all of my newsletter mails, mailing list mails and other non-personal mails, so as to keep my REAL e-mail address clean. It comes in pretty handy!

Even if it doesn't earn me a cent (ooh, I've got some money so far! Not very much, but I see it tells me how much I've earned under 'stats'!), it's still pretty useful! (And I haven't recieved any junk mail in the few weeks I've been using it, either! Yay!)

The slogan they've got is pretty cute, too:

"Make A Buck Or Two @ TheMail.com - Free Internet Email"

Why not try it? Check out the URL below! ^_^

Mind-it:
Mind-it is, in my opinion, a very cool tool for a serious surfer. What it is is a tool that monitors your favourite web sites for you, and tells you when they change!

I use it for my favourite sites so I don't have to visit them all the time, or eventually give up on them and forget them!

"Mind-it is your personal web assistant. Is there a web page you visit to stay informed of changes to information and content? Mind-it will watch this page for you and email when you when relevant changes occur."

There are various options you can choose, including frequency of Mind-it visits, keyword monitoring, monitoring of text changes, form results, images and links.

One of the most useful options - despite a few bugs - is that you can choose for Mind-it to highlight the differences for you! You can tell if the change was a few words, or a whole new paragraph at a glance! You can also choose to have Mind-it send you an e-mail when a site has changed, or just log in to Mind-it's web site and check whenever you want.

Update 4th Feb 2002: They've sold off Mind-it (sell outs!), so it now costs money. :(

AllAdvantage.com:
Something amazing just happened the other week. I come home after work, and see if I had any letters. And, yes, I had one letter. I looked at it, and thought "That's strange, it's sent from Melbourne, but says 'STATE:' in front of my state. I wonder why..." So I opened it, and I was amazed.

Inside was a cheque for AUD$43.64c!

Not rich, but enough for something nice from the shops. ^_^

The cheque was from AllAdvantage for using their Viewbar.

You might be wondering why someone would send money to someone for the use of their product (and some of you may already know!), but when you 'surf' webpages with their Viewbar, they're collecting data - what sites you see and all the rest of it.

As far as I know, they don't sell this information, but use it to put targeted (I guess - I don't take any notice of their ads!) adverts on their Viewbar while you go browse your favourite websites.

I haven't been sent any spam my way, from them (just the regular spam that you tend to accumulate through internet usage), so I don't feel and invasion of privacy. You can always turn it off when you want to view something privately.

I've found a great way to use it, because I do HTML programming. I use it from work, and get the 25 hours per month, which translates into the money I got from them. ^_^

Now, it's also a pyramid scheme - you earn a little bit from each person who signed up underneath you. That hasn't gone far, because no-one seems to view webpages. Oh, well...

But, well, I was thinking maybe it was a rip off, but no! I DID get the money! Yay! ^_^

So, why not join up (under me, of course. ^_~ ) and start earning money for nothing (almost), too?

NOTE: This is no longer a cool site. Not only has it ended (their front page 'explains' why they no longer operate), but they have theived/stolen money owed to me (among others, I'm sure!) since November!

MyPoints.com:
It's quite fun, watching your points grow. When you sign up, you'll start off with 100 points...

You can spend it on anything from Clothing to Car goods to Books to Electronics and Travel! You can even give your points to charities, if you're feeling generous!

You can spend your points quite quickly - say 1350 points for a gift certificate. Or you can save up your points and spend them on something 'big'!

Here are some examples of what you can get with various points (but you need 1000 points before you can spend them):

500+ points - Gift certificates
1000+ points - Gift certificates, hotel points, frequent flier points
2500+ points - Gift certificates, movie tickets, gardening products
5000+ points - Gift certificates, jewellery, amusement park tickets
10000+ points - Gift certificates, lobster dinner for two, cruise points

These are from companies like Alaska Airlines, the Red Cross, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster Video, Bloomingdales, Carnival Cruise Lines, the Hilton, Home Depot, the Marriott, Sony Music, Target, Toys 'R' Us and much, much more!

Personally, I'm saving my points to get Hilton points. That'll help towards a future trip!

They do send you e-mail (to get points), if you wish it. To speed up your points gathering, tick ALL interests when joining up.

Each e-mail will give you at least 10 points. So the more interests you have, the more e-mails you will get... and the more points you will get!

I have fun collecting the points. Hopefully you will, too!

The BEST thing about MyPoints, though, is that it CAN be used by people, all over the world! This is a true World Wide Web site! ^_^ So sign up at:

Fansview:
If you're into conventions (especially if you can't attend them), then this is the site for you!

Already there are reports on Katsucon, FanimeCon and Animazement! Not only are they there, but each day of the conventions are updated at the end of that day! Almost live! ^_^

It's a great site for those that can't attend the convention. Why? Because it's not, as so many convention sites are, just photos of people in their outfits... nor is it just photos of the friends of the author... THIS site covers early arivals to the conventions, costumers, Japanese guests of honours and their panels, American guests, panels, the cosplay, opening and closing ceremonies, and more! All commented nicely by the author, giving you the major highlights of each event as well as many, many photos.

The reports go back to 1997 - a huge amount of material of all the cons during those years! The author keeps the Convention Schedule for the year up to date, so you know what's coming (And when!) as well as a little run down on some of the coming conventions.

Every week there is an 'Anime Convention Personality of the Week', focusing on an anime convention personality (of course!), with photos and a quick run down on what he/she does.

I've got this site bookmarked, and check it every week (or day, when the author is at a convention!)

Amazingly enough, this site is the author's hobby! It's a great site that shares anime fandom with the general interenet population. I don't know how he manages to update the site every week! I know that I could never manage. ^^;

If you can't make it to a con, visit:

(It's the next best thing to actually being there! ^_^ )

Emailcash.com.au
This is a site I've recently joined. An Australian site that lets you collect points through adverts, clicking on banners, filling out surveys, while chatting and (of course) from gettins others to join.

On average, I've been getting 3 points a day, plus extras (100, 300, etc) from their e-mails and surveys. But they're a lot less often.

I'm not one to buy items online, but you can get points much faster by buying things through their site, or by trying things out.

From the title, you can obviously change the points to cold, hard cash! But you can also use them to 'buy' items on their site.

The first Australian site I've seen like that. I'll give it a go and see what happens, at least for a while!

The best thing about it, for me, is that where MyPoints will say that I'm not allowed to get certain things (or get gift certificates I can't use as the shop isn't in Australia), this one will work 100% for me! Yay!!

Anyway, have a look at:

That's it for my reviews of a few of my favourite Hot Sites!
