He'd been musing on the old adage that God can best be seen through the eyes of a child when Derria spotted River standing at the sink, staring at the running water. The irony was not lost on him.
Truly this child is both closer to God, and further from him, he thought, than any of the rest of us will ever be. He paused, watching her for a few moments, wondering what could possibly be going through her tortured mind and soul. Hesitant to interrupt her serenity, his curiosity finally won out.
