Bubblegum Crisis/Batman: The Animated Series FROZEN KNIGHTS Writer's notes and credits I. Ownership and Legalities II. Writer's rant III. Sequels, Anyone? Future Plans. IV. Soundtrack V. Minor Trivia etc. IV. Big Thanks and Credits ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Ownership and Legalities Batman & Mr. Freeze is owned by Warner Bros. BubbleGum Crisis is property of Animeigo ------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Writer's rant The inspiration for this was from wanting to do a Batman/BGC crossover that did NOT use time travel, and WASN'T a fusion of the two concepts (although Sylia and Bruce Wayne do have a lot in common). Who'd fit perfectly? Well... Mr. Freeze. Go watch the episodes 54 (Heart of Ice) and episode 584 (Deep Freeze) of Batman: The Animated Series. Episode 584 SHOULD be available in Blockbuster Video or whatever video joint ya got, under the title "Batman: Fire and Ice." Why Batman: The Animated Series? When the show was good, it was VERY good. Their vision of Mr. Freeze is quite possibly his best incarnation, and what they based the movie version of Mr. Freeze on (although I'm NOT reccomending the movie). He went from being just another gimick professor to a true tragic figure. I also have to admit that the Graphic Novel 'Batman: The Dark Knight Returns' was a big influence for the setup of the story. In the world of BGC, there seems to be no heroes, and any that might be are looked at with skepticism and doubt first. How else can you explain the state of the world, except that its heroes had been forced to abandon her? I really wanted to do a BGC/Joker thing. Really. But any way I could find to bring him in was just too cheezy. Same goes for Batman or any of his successors. There was absolutely no need for him in the story. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Sequels, Anyone? Future Plans As far as BGC goes, I have two major plots in mind, but they won't be done for quite a while yet. One is a sequel of sorts to 'Frozen Knights', and another could be, but could easily stand alone by itself. First up... BGC: When Nature Calls (fall 97) ---------------------- Sylia decides the team needs an excercise in teamwork, and so the four of them go hiking in the wilderness of western America. How many 'mad rabid squirrels' will Priss gun down with her cannon? We'll all find out... BGC/Batman: Demon Knights - Sequel to Frozen Knights. (summer 98) ----------------------------------------------------- He is over 600 years old. His mission - to purify a poisoned world, restore nature to her former glory, and create his vision of utopia where his word is law, by ANY means neccessary. He is the master of a global terrorist organization, and has a hold on many nations. He is Ra's Al Ghul, and he's just declared war on the only person on earth more powerful than himself: Quincy. In the Antarctic, his armies begin a campaign to unite the territories into one nation, clashing with the Genom forces lead by Mr. Freeze. Meanwhile, his schemes in MegaTokyo sends the city, and the Knight Sabers, into panic. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Soundtrack 1. The Guns of Love Disasterous ............... Smashing Pumpkins 14. The Dominion Tank Police Soundtrack 15. The Macross Plus Soundtrack Collection 16. Street Fighter: The Movie Soundtrack These songs I listened to while writing about certain scenes, or just ironing out the plot. 'The End is the Beginning is the End' is primarily the Freeze/Sylia battle music. 'Never The End' is what I had in mind for the end. 'Sweet Dreams', both versions, is the Genom theme song. 'The Guns of Love Disasterous' is the Victor Fries/Nora Fries theme. 'Wake up Dead Man' is what I had in mind during the retrieval of Freeze from the Atlantic. The Dominion, Macross, and Street Fighter soundtracks... primarily it was the background music that I listened to when I wrote the scenes out. The others... I'll let you figure it out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Minor Trivia etc. 1) The story is set several monts after the end of Bubblegum Crisis. 2) Geo City is from Bubblegum Crash #2. Just because I ignore the BGCrash continuity doesn't mean I can't borrow from it ^_^ 3) I told you this was minor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Big Thanks and Credits First and foremost, BIG thanks to Ed Bercerra for being an advisor and consultant to me every step of the way. Frozen Knights wouldn't be decent without his aid. Damon Castle for his nitpicking and aesthetic critique of all five parts and the epilogue. Thanks also to the oracle of all things BGC, Jeannie Hedge, for her (rough yet tender, and definitely much needed) C&C, Lara Bartram for her editorial work on part 4, 5, and the epilogue. The Bubblegum Crisis RPG, by R.Talsorian games. It's a niiice reference to all things BGC... except that I wonder why the heck they think Madigan's dead? Mike Loader, Kevin Eav, the fan fiction IRC bunch for giving it a read-over and aesthetic review, and the fan fic mailing list, which said to me, basically, 'what the heck, write the thing.' -rpm http://www.uh.edu/~rpm/fanfic.htm
