[Open on Ucchan's, shrouded in darkness. Or almost - there is a light in the upper window. We pan up and into the room, apparently a living area of some kind. At a table, made out by a dim light, is UKYOU, nursing a glass of some nameless alcohol and looking rather drunk. There appears to be someone in the chair across from her. We pan over, and are startled to find that it is AKANE, in a similar position. The two of them are drinking together, but don't really acknowledge each other that much, lost in their own thoughts. Finally, Akane raises her head, looking at Ukyou with a despondent expression. Even in her own despair, she feels a need to try and make Ukyou feel better - after all, they've both lost now, what good is there in fighting? She begins to sing.] [As Akane sings, we slowly do a deep close-up on her eye, until we are seeing her memories come alive through the song.] AKANE: Nothing is so good it lasts eternally [Scenes of tender moments between her and Ranma - a glance, a noble act, the time they held hands coming back from the forest.] Perfect situations must go wrong [Different memories now, shots of her pounding Ranma, kicking him into the air, screaming at him.] But this has never yet prevented me Wanting far too much for far too long [As Ranma recovers, we see a shadow reaching down to help him up.] Looking back I could have played it differently Won a few more moments, who can tell? [Scenes of Ranma's growing distance, of the love he feels for Akane gradually fading. Her anger is merely strengthened by this, and we see more violence. Once again, he is helped up by someone offscreen.] But it took time to understand the man Now at least I know I know him well [Cut to the dojo. We see Kasumi, Soun, and Akane reacting with utter shock - in particular Akane has a look on her face of pain, anger, and fear, but especially of utter betrayal.] [Back to Ucchan's. Akane is crying freely now, and Ukyou is the one doing the comforting.] AKANE: UKYOU: Wasn't it good? Oh so good Wasn't he fine? Oh so fine Isn't it madness He can't be mine? He can't be mine? But in the end he needs A little bit more than me -- More security He needs his fantasy And freedom I know him so well. I know him so well. [Akane's crying has slowed, and Ukyou is now the one with the faraway look in her eye. We perform another tight close-up.] UKYOU: No one in your life is with you constantly No one is completely on your side [The familiar scene plays of a six-year-old Ranma waving from the cart while Ukyou runs crying after it.] And though I move my world to be with him Still the gap between us is too wide [This time, it's Ukyou who is pounding Ranma with the ever-present spatula.] [We hear Akane in the background, from outside the "memory sequence".] UKYOU: AKANE: Looking back I could Looking back I could Have played it Have played things differently Some other way [Ukyou is listening to Ranma, a look of disbelief and sorrow on her face. We see Ranma, also sad but determined, talking gently to her.] Learned about the man Before I fell I was just a little Careless maybe [A western-style wedding. We are looking at the audience. Everyone seems fairly happy (Shampoo and Kodachi are noticeably absent), but Akane and Ukyou still appear to be in a state of shock.] But I was Ever so much Younger then Now at least Now at least I know him well I know I know him well I know I know him well {Akane and Ukyou (at the wedding) begin to sob. We slowly pan over to the groom - Ranma - and the bride - Nabiki.] Wasn't it good? Oh so good Wasn't he fine Oh so fine Isn't it madness He won't be mine? He won't be mine? [Cut back to the Akane beating scene - it's Nabiki helping Ranma up. She gets him some bandages, and then holds out her hand. He pays her.] AKANE and UKYOU: Didn't I know How it would go? If I knew from the start Why am I falling apart? [We see more scenes of Ranma being helped by Nabiki - after a while she stops charging him. We see him talking with her in her room, see her (more importantly) opening up to him. Then one night we see that Ranma doesn't leave the room.] AKANE: UKYOU: Wasn't it good? Wasn't he fine? Isn't it madness He won't be mine? He won't be mine? [We see Ranma and Nabiki explaining their love to the family - reactions as before. We see the wedding again, this time getting the kiss. It is filled with love and passion, two people who have genuinely come to know each other.] But in the end he needs a Little bit more than me -- More security He needs his Fantasy and freedom [We see Ranma, with a backpack, ready to leave the dojo. Shockingly, Nabiki is also wearing a backpack, and she seems content to accompany Ranma. We see them slowly walk off.] I know him so well It took time to understand him [We see Akane and Ukyou watching the couple leave. The reality of the situation finally hits them.] [Cut back to Ucchan's. The alcohol is gone, and the two women are staring at absolutely nothing, trying to conjure up a face that is no longer there.] BOTH: I know him so well [Fade.]
