Philip-M gets on the Corrine-suit. [Corrine] ..... Malan Hoader has arrived. Property set. Corrine OOCly says, "Right. Let's rock this casbah." John Biles, Lord of Creation, says, "I'm thinking we can take care of your confab with Anthy right now, as she's available and can drop you some nifty hints that I can then use you to feed to the PCS :)" Corrine OOCly says, "Yay! Set it for the day of the arrival, then? Might was well not waste any time... after resetting Ember's time rate, Corrine's hungry. And still being followed by Misaki. :) (your call, of course.)" Dowager Queen Anthy says, "OOC Yep, same day." ================================= ================================= After many contradictory sets of directions and having to run just about everywhere in the castle, you finally track down Anthy, who is up in the Duelling Arena, using it as a platform to look out south and east across the land. Dowager Queen Anthy does not seem to notice your arrival, continuing to gaze southeast along the coast away from the city. Corrine climbs up the steps, mostly non-winded, presumably being trailed by Misaki (unless she decided to go "Oooooo" at all the nice roses at the Duelling Arena Courtyard and stayed downstairs). She hesitates at the threshold of the Arena, remembering the last two times she had been up there. Misaki trails along after you, then stops and just sort of stares at the rose carved into the floor of the duelling arena. Corrine then takes a deep breath, and walks into the Arena proper, quiet and respectful of the Dowager Queen's privacy, but moving over to her general area, trying to look in the same general direction Anthy's looking... Forest Arden, the great Gulf of Amber... Corrine then blinks, and looks back at her Bodyguard. *quiet* "... Misaki? What is it?" She moves to the taller woman's side, curious. Far off on the horizon you can see the steps down into Rebma from here, and the fishing villages along the coast, and the boats sailing up and down the coast, and from the far east to here. Misaki turns to you and blinks, "Just looking at the stonework, your highness." Dowager Queen Anthy now turns and smiles at you, then begins crossing the distance to you. "I see you've been getting plenty of sun." Corrine smiles, and chuckles a bit. "Impressive, isn't it? Dowager Queen Anthy..." She nods to the dowager queen as she approaches, and continues. "... came up with the layout." Corrine then blushes, and self-conciously rubs her arms. "You... could say that, your highness." Corrine also bows to Anthy as she approaches, some habits still ingrained. Misaki looks Dowager Queen Anthy up and down, then smiles at her. "Nice to meet you, your highness." She bows deeply. Dowager Queen Anthy turns and smiles gently at Misaki, then asks, "And who is your lovely friend, Corrine?" Misaki says, "I'm Queen Corrine's bodyguard, Lady Misaki!" She smiles brightly in a way that fails to reek of menace or power. Corrine ahs, and gestures to Misaki, somewhat embarrassed. "This is Lady Misaki, formerly of Jyurai, your highness. Misaki, this is Dowager Queen Anth---" Corrine does not facefault. She's been a Queen for 10 years now, she's learned how to check the reflex. She does get a rather embarrased blush, however, that can even be seen with her tan. Short description: Kima it is indeed. Miscellaneous: Oh boy... Dowager Queen Anthy nods to Lady Misaki, then says to Corrine, "I see you've been busy the last few days." Corrine blushes more, and nods. "... To put it mildly... Yes." She looks embarrased, yet also... proud? as she stands up straighter. "My absence from Amber, given my original intentions, had some unforseen developments." She looks rueful as she looks at the ruby flaming Alicorn ring she now wears on her right hand. Corrine says, "Though, on the whole of it... I can't exactly say I can complain about them..." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "The City in the Sun lives again, I see." Dowager Queen Anthy frowns. "Of course, that likely means the Ravager Beast will come to attack it again." She turns and looks up at the Sun. "That would be a great tragedy." Corrine blinks at Anthy, and whispers, "...you... knew?" She then blinks, and chuckles. "... somehow... somehow, I should have figured." She smiles more, and then curtseys to the Dowager Queen. "Indeed it does, and --- " She BLINKS. Corrine asks, "... what do -you- know of the Ravager Beast, your highness?" Corrine's mein has switched from wry amusement to seriousness in an instant. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Not very much. Mostly legends." Corrine takes a deep breath, and tries to relax. She mostly manages it. "At the moment, anything is helpful, your highness. I know very little about it myself, save that it destroyed Ember the first time, damaged its Pattern... and that supposedly, Annadil had a hand in sending it there in the first place." She frowns, and rubs her brow, looking for a place to sit. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It is said that the Ravager Beast is ancient beyond measure, although given that it uses the power of the Logrus, it cannot possibly be older than the Logrus. Or so I would think." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It is said to have once been a mortal man who somehow wrapped an entire shadow around himself in an effort to become a god. Instead, he went mad and became a rampaging, shadow travelling beast, obsessed with feeding upon Patterns." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Yet, everytime he does so, it hurts him so badly that he must retreat and sleep." Corrine nods. "Grandfather had said, when I asked, that it was an ambulatory Shadow of some type, that had stolen a piece of the Logrus. Other than that, Ember's libraries and sages know little of it in the present day. I intend later today to ask Travis to do some research if he has the time." She then shakes her head some more... and then pauses, eyes wide at Anthy's telling. "... by the four heraldric beasts..." She shudders. "How can we fight such a thing, if it is so powerful?" Dowager Queen Anthy says, "The mortal was a Lord of Chaos, and so the Ravager Beast uses the power of the Logrus, and it is said to have once been named Gideon." Corrine nods slowly, now just listening to Anthy's recounting, not trying to interrupt. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It's also known to have attacked Chaos at least once, destroying a great house in one of its many guises." Corrine's eyebrows go up at this. "That's..." She shudders again. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "I do not know how it could be defeated, although I suppose the best time of attack would be after it went into hibernation to recover from attacking a Pattern." Dowager Queen Anthy looks thoughtful. "The Jewel of Judgement might be able to unravel it." Corrine mmms, quietly, nodding a bit. "That would make sense, if one could find it. And... hrm. That is a good point. I'm not attuned to it, but I am to the Fire Jewel, and I know Tylor's attuned to the true Jewel..." She pauses. "... did father know of Ember, Queen Anthy? Grandfather had said that there had been no time to react...." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "I do not know. That happened long before my time." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "I came to Amber hundreds of years after the destruction of Ember." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It was not a topic we ever really discussed." Corrine nods. "Queen Moire might know. I'll have to ask her, and soon. She's the last of father's generation in a position of power... but thank you, anyway." She smiles slightly. "I understand. At least, I think I do." Dowager Queen Anthy sighs. "I wish I could be of more help." She looks thoughtful for a moment. "I know Derith has studied the arts of Pattern to a great degree and can look through Shadow to find things. He might be able to locate the Ravager Beast for you." Misaki asks, "What does it look like?" Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It has many forms, but its most common one is a giant squid." Corrine smiles at the Dowager Queen. "Just talking to you right now, Queen Anthy, has been a big help. And hrm... that is a good point. We need all the early warning we can get..." She shudders slightly. "... especially now that Annadil knows that Ember has been reborn." Corrine rubs her brow. Corrine says, "A... giant squid." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Yes." Dowager Queen Anthy asks, "Annadil knows of Ember's rebirth?" Corrine says, "That... had to have been a very big squid. I -saw- the damage it did to the city and the Fire Pattern chamber." Corrine sighs, and looks up at the sun. "My folly, your majesty. Shaft and Grandfather had come to Ember, so as to undo tampering that had been done to his mind. He walked the Fire Pattern and claimed his birthright, and expressed concern that Utena might have been affected as well -- since it was Wakaba who had done the tampering." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Well, it was made out of an entire Shadow." Dowager Queen Anthy frowns and nods. Corrine says, "I agreed to have Utena come to Ember so we could settle matters... and we did. Utena had been under mental control of Annadil, and he trumped... SOMEHOW... into my sitting room, despite the efforts of my daughter." Misaki says, "You should have had me present for that dangerous task, your majesty." Corrine says, "I restrained Utena long enough for Gabrielle and Shaft to try and kill him with Pattern Fire... it had some effect, but he still escaped." Corrine sighs, and hangs her head. "I know, Misaki. Like I said, my folly, and I shall bear the brunt of it." Corrine looks up, somewhat rueful. "For what it's worth, Utena is now free of Annadil's ageis, and we know that Wakaba has been under the influence for some time. And he left an item... a lion-shaped brooch... behind, that I am still having analyzed. But..." She sighs again, and clenches her fists at her sides, feeling ashamed. Dowager Queen Anthy frowns. "Having gotten in once, he can likely get in again." Dowager Queen Anthy sits down on a bench and gestures to you to sit down as well. Corrine sits down on the bench, quiet, looking frustrated and worn. Misaki goes over the railing and looks out across the countryside. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Uneasy rests the head upon which rests a crown, they say. *shakes her head* But I think you will wear it well." Corrine rubs the edges of her left-hand bracelet almost worringly, her fingers tracing around the inset ruby. "... have i doomed all that's come to pass... my daughter, my lover, my kingdom... my -family-, because of my actions, anthy?" She lets out a short, quick, depreciating laugh. "Telllllll me about it, your highness." She quirks a quick smile. "I remember, long long ago, when it was thought that Juri and I desired the crown of Amber. After the past decade... I can quite easily say any such desire, if it ever existed, doesn't anymore." She looks up again, and over at Misaki looking out over the countryside. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "It is very rare that a single action dooms anything on the scale at which we must act, or Amber would have fallen long ago." Corrine says, "This... is a good point." Dowager Queen Anthy shakes her head sadly. "Fortunately, I do not think Annadil will need to invade Ember to carry out his schemes, so he may largely ignore you." Misaki turns, smiles brightly at you, waves, then turns away. Corrine starts to allow the tension to work out of her body. She smiles, and waves back at Misaki, and then nods to Anthy. "We make our choices, we abide by them, and then we go on with life, trying to improve our lot in it." She then purses her lips. "...That is fortunate... I guess. I still can't fully comprehend on what he's been trying to -do-, though." She shakes her head. "Just portents, prophesies, and random fortunes have been my main sources of information, and while decent guidelines, they hardly help to settle the matter in our favor." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "He wants to open the Gate of Revolution." Dowager Queen Anthy turns and stares at the rose carved into the floor. "And for some reason, the Five Children have some connection to that." You page, "Plausable that corrine was there to look at it once? I know she painted trumps of the 4 pattern rooms that she knew about, and once she walked Tir'na-nog, she would've been curious... but she wouldn't have painted it herself. No time and all. *wl*" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "The Gate? Yeah, you could have seen it." to you. You feel the buzz of a trump contact. Corrine says, "The Gate of Revolution...." She draws in a breath. "I was there once, to see what it was li--" Corrine pauses, and mentally goes through her trumps to get an ID. True Trump Memory. Never leave Shadow or Reality without it. It's one of your Arden ranger lieutenants, Deedlit. Corrine blinks. "A moment, your majesty... I have a call..." She lets the contact open. "Yes, Deedlit?" Corrine idly gestures with her free hand to get Misaki over here, just in case. Deedlit says, "Princess Juri almost ran me down a second ago! She's chasing some huge, demonic beast!" Misaki comes over to you and stands alertly. Corrine BLINKS. "Bwa?? But--" She shakes her head. "Where are you, what section of Forest, what did the beast look like, and was Princess Hiko with her?" She glances quickly over at Anthy, concern and worry on her face. "In the Black Oaks! I didn't see Hiko... it was a huge scaly serpent-rabbit-dog thing!" You page, "Annnnd does that sound like the Questing Beast?" to Akemi. You page, "And would Corrine have had trump of the Black Oaks, know the loc?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Could be!" to you. Akemi pages, "You know the location and can use your True Trump Memory to go there" to you. Corrine's eyes widen. "... The Questing Beast..." she whispers, and then shakes her head. "But what would Juri be doing back here?" She nods, making a quick series of decisions. "We'll be there within the moment, Deedlit. Hold your position!" Misaki asks, "Where are we going, your highness?" Dowager Queen Anthy rises, "Duty calls, I take it?" Deetlit yelps, "Wha... BISON? Bis... AUUUUGH!" The connection breaks. Corrine nods, glancing at Anthy. "To put it bluntly, ye---- DEEDLIT!" She looks at her quickly, with concern. "Your highness, a quick question; have Juri and Hiko returned from Shadow yet, to your knoweledge?" Corrine looks at Misaki. "we're about to head into the Black Oaks of Arden, Misaki. Take my hand." Misaki takes your hand. "What's an Oak?" Dowager Queen Anthy nods farewell to you. Corrine says, "A very big and thick tree, Misaki." You page, "Anthy gonna answer that last question?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Question?" to you. You page, ""Your highness, a quick question; have Juri and Hiko returned from Shadow yet, to your knoweledge?"" to Akemi. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "I do not know if they have returned, Corrine." Misaki nods to you. Corrine's lips set in a straight line. "Thank you." She nods. "Hopefully, I'll have more to tell about this around dinner, if that's amenable. Wish us luck." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "Good luck, and may the Unicorn shelter you." Corrine concentrates, and in a rainbow shimmer without a physical trump card, they step between places in a shimmer of rainbow light. You see Juri riding a horse towards you at high speed. A horde of angry bison are chasing her through the forest. Corrine ACKS, and tosses herself and Misaki out of the way, trumping the two of them out of range if possible. "The HELL??" Which way do you go? Behind the herd? To the left or the right of the herd? "You can't intend to keep this up forever!" Juri calls. "What do you want of me?" Corrine tries to toss herself and Misaki to the left, to the side, of the herd. Hell, if possible, she'll toss Misaki up INTO the trees for her to catch a branch and follow after via climbing. "Oh, that's a _wonderfully_ intelligent response!" Juri yells. You vanish out of the way and off to one side of the herd, only to find that the herd is bigger than you thought. You've landed in its left wing, and now it's trampling over you and Misaki. Misaki is swept away from you by the sheer force of onrushing bison, shouting incoherently. You page, "Can the player request being slapped and tactical advice as little as her 13 in Warfare allows? ^_-; [Corrine HITS her player, hard.] OW!" to Akemi. Misaki manages to mount one of them, as she is swept out of sight. Corrine tries to do the same! Akemi pages, "PRobably trying to mount one so you could ride with the herd is teh best plan" to you. You page, "(And since when did Arden have BISON? o_O)" to Akemi. With effort, you manage to mount onto a bison, which surges ahead towards the front of the pack. Akemi pages, "It doesn't. someone clearly brought them here." to you. Corrine HOLDS ON! And tries to spot where Misaki is, relative to her, and Juri Misaki has vanished among the trees. You're drawing closer to Juri as your bison speeds up. You page, "(and lemme guess... Behind the herd would've trumped them in the back after they passed. Yay. *sigh*)" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yeah, behind the herd would have put you scot free. Of course, it also would have left you unable to try to do anything to prevent Juri being trampled." to you. You page, "Given wether or not this IS Juri, but hey... ^_-; Corrine has her Doubts right now." to Akemi. You page, "But she's moving on benefit right now... wary, but there." to Akemi. Corrine tries to guide her bison towards Juri's horse. "JURI!" "You look as though you could use a hand!" Juri calls, over the driving rain and the thunder. You page, "... rain and thunder? When did THAT happen?" to Akemi. She starts slowing to ride even with you. Akemi pages, "We forgot to tell you ^^;;;" to you. Corrine calls back. "I could say the same for you!" She studies Juri as she approaches. You page, "Ahwell, such is life. ^_-; This just figures for Corrine's day, I suppose." to Akemi. A crack of lightning fries a tree near you both. Akemi pages, "She's wearing the usual Juri clothing from Utena, the white/orange duelling type outfit. Sword at belt. Looks pretty much what you'd expect physically. Very damp from rain." to you. Akemi pages, "It's an outfit you've seen Juri wear, although you wouldn't expect her to wear it while being chased by Bison" to you. Corrine acks, and swerves the Bison, if it's moveable in such a fashion, so as to avoid the fried tree. "We can get into the metaphysical issues of this once we're away from the horny bison," Juri says. "Hop on; I can outrun them." You page, "[Corrine] Right now, I wouldn't be expecting Juri to be run down by Bison ANYWAY... she's not THAT foolhardy." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Heh. That assumes she has a choice :)" to you. Corrine judges the gap between them, and then concentrates for a moment, attempting to cotact Misaki. "A moment, Juri!" You page, "Corrine be makign sure bodyguard with her this time, hopefully." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You are unable to contact her." to you. Akemi pages, "Something seems to be blocking trumps." to you. Corrine frowns, and then frowns some more, blinks, and then nods. "Right!" She maneuvers the bison over, ready to jump onto Juri's horse. You page, "Corrine's trying to check if her Fire DemiJewel link is currently intact, or not. She's getting warning bells all OVER now." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "FireJewel Link is DOWN" to you. You page, "!!!!!!" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You can jump without any difficulty" to you. Juri rides steady, waiting. You page, "There any GM-sponsored warning bells with this, or is he just going to be a right bastard and gonna let me tough it out?" to Akemi. You page, "(given I -am- an NPC here, but on the same hand, I'd rather not be screwed. ^_-; )" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You would have to be in a Trump and Pattern barred Shadow, so far as you kow, for the manifestation to go down" to you. You page, "Which is bizzare, given Arden Isn't Suppose To Be Set Like That...." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yeah, it is :)" to you. You page, ".... erm?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yes it is bizzare" to you. Akemi pages, "Jump, dude, jump :)" to you. You page, "Fine, I'll take the jump for the moment. And darn your eyes if I'm wrong!" to Akemi. Corrine takes a deep breath, mutters a quick prayer to the four heladric beasts of the Pattern, and jumps over. "Hold on!" Juri snaps the reins and drives her horse to full speed in pursuit of the demon-thing. "So, how did you get into this?" Corrine holds on! "You and your friend ran over one of my rangers! Haven't I told you to watch the speed limit in Arden?" She manages a grin, toughing it out and doing the best fake out she can. She watches the landscape, her senses open to try and tell if Shadow's being shifted.... Why yes, it is. Corrine narrows her eyes, slightly, mentally probing through her manifestations to see if they're active on the Trump/Pattern/FireJewel levels, still holding on and waiting for Juri to reply. "Arden? You're not my Darako, are you? But I suppose I already knew that, considering that you're alive and have a different haircut and are saying multiple sentences without cursing." Juri pauses for a moment. "I do believe I'm slightly in shock." You page, "....." to Akemi. You page, "... you're evil." to Akemi. You page, "In more ways than one." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "The manifestations seem unable to establish a connection, which is strange, given that you seem to be moving through shadow in a Pattern like way." to you. Corrine blinks. Corrine says, "Erm, woah, woah, WOAH... Slow down, willyah? Who's -Darako-?" Corrine asks, "Find a place to stop for a moment? Please?" It would be somewhat difficult to stop unless you enjoy Bison running you over. Corrine asks, "Or at least try to start shifting Shadow so that the Bison aren't there anymore?" You page, "Does it feel like Corrine could take over shadow-shifting, if possible?" to Akemi. "I'll try." Corrine says, "Thaaaaaank you." Akemi pages, "You don't know; no way to tell without trying, since you don't have Advanced Pattern to feel out the Shadow with." to you. "I don't think I can shift Shadow in another universe," Juri says. "Sorry. I wonder if I'm like me here, or not?" You page, "Riiight.... *glance* is the Questing Beast still ahead of them?" to Akemi. You start to slow and pull to a stop. Akemi pages, "It's vanishing off into the distance." to you. The bison have vanished as well. "Perhaps we should start at the beginning," Juri says, calm in a rather numb way. "I'm Princess Juri of Avalon." Corrine watches the Questing Beast depart in the disance, and then nods. "That... would be a very good idea. I'm Princess Corrine of Amber, Daughter of the deceased King Gendo I of Amber and Queen Haruka of Harad, Warden of Arden, Dutchess of Fork, and several other titles please bap me now before I go onto the extended title list." Corrine looks sheepish... and a little dumbstruck as well. Akemi pages, "You know your Juri rules a shadow named Avalon, btw." to you. Juri looks fairly confident and compentent, if slightly baffled. "I'm pleased to meet you, Corrine. Two Ambers. Interesting. And an Avalon. Hmm." You page-pose, "Aerianne nods. But it doesn't have to sink in immediately, and Juri normally doesn not -refer- to herself as a Princess of -Avalon-. :)" to Akemi. "Well, I appear to be stuck here for the moment, since my Shadow-shifting won't work. But why did the Questing Beast bring me here?" Corrine raises her eyebrows. "... two Ambers? Erm?" She scratches her head. "I know there's flawed Ambers out there, but..." She shrugs. "...Beats me, Juri. It's appeared in our neck of the woods before, though." Corrine then pauses. "Your shadow shifting doesn't work? Oh dear." Corrine looks like she's gone past the sheepish/dumbstruck stage and into the "Time to make the donuts" stage. Corrine tries reaching through her manifestations again, once again trying to check. ".. you got a deck of trumps on you? Give 'm a test..." Akemi pages, "You can't reach anything." to you. Corrine frowns, looking at her bracelet and ring. ".... I can't seem to reach out, either." "Well, I'm not the Juri you know. My Shadow-shifting abilities come from the imprint of a different Pattern." She pauses. "Though Benedict and Gerard didn't seem to have any trouble..." Juri pulls a trump. You page, "Those names familiar? :)" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Vaguely. You know of a Flawed Amber with people by that name." to you. Corrine goes for her good old trump deck, popping out a card of Queen Anthy to try. Hey, you never know. "You have any kids?" "Oh dear. Perhaps this isn't _either_ of our universes." Akemi pages, "It doesn't work." to you. Juri shrugs. "The best thing to do would seem to be to ride for the city and the palace, and see what we find there." Corrine's brow furrows. "... Benedict and Gerard... that sounds like people I've heard in reference to a Flawed Amber back home, but..." She shrugs and sighs, and replaces her Trump too. "My trumps aren't working, and I -know- trumps. And that sounds like a plan, then." "Nope. You?" Corrine shakes her head. "In the light of no other options for communication or transit -out- of here, the city and palace sounds like the place to go, as you suggested." "The bison, thankfully, appear to be gone." Juri gets the horse going again. "We could take my helicopter, but I don't think Julian's connection is working..." Corrine smiles slightly, holding on. "Who's Julian? And since when--" She shakes her head. "Different universe, nevermind." She smiles sheepishly. Corrine . o O (Helicopter. Amber. Avalon. Does not compute.) "Which way? You seem to know this place better than I do." Corrine tries to gauge landmarks, if this place is congruent to Amber. Juri of Avalon waves. It seems fairly congruent. Juri of Avalon heads Arisugawa for Amber. Corrine nods. "Layout's about right for home, at least." She starts giving directions that would lead from Forest Arden to the City of Amber, or whatever place this really is. You're pretty deep in the forest. Corrine frowns. "If it's as big as Arden, though... it could take several days." She sighs. Juri of Avalon says, "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my," Juri says drolly. Juri of Avalon shrugs. "The company is not unpleasing, and at least we're not being chased by horny bison any more." Corrine chuckles a bit, and runs her left hand through her chestnut hair, her tan rather prominent. "This is true." She considers a moment. "How'd you end up in Arden, anyway? Our Arden, that is? And who were you yelling at when we crossed paths?" Juri of Avalon says, "The Questing Beast is the answer to all those. I chased it, and it led me here; for what reason, I do not know, although I have some ideas in mind." Touga teleports into the room. Touga has arrived. Touga says, "(ooc) Don't mind me, not here..." Juri of Avalon exclaims, "(ooc) Tomas! DIE!" Corrine of Amber mmmms. "The Questing Beast was sighted in the Forest of Arden about two weeks ago, our time.... my dragon, Sparky, gave chase, but I called him off before he could get lost in Shadow." Her lips purse. "That time, though, it had been disguised before we gave chase... it it start that way, too?" Corrine of Amber says, "For you, that is." Juri of Avalon says, "No. I have hunted and caught the Beast previously, however." Juri of Avalon says, "It proved itself well-fond of disguise and trickery then. And of horny bison." Juri of Avalon says, "My understanding is that it has a connection to both the Pattern--Patterns, I suppose--and to the powers behind the Spikards." Juri of Avalon says, "Thus, I would assume, to the Lady Sand and the Green Knight." Corrine of Amber raises her eyebrows. "I know not of this Lady Sand... but the Green Knight and I have met before. That is, if your Green Knight and mine are the same." She smiles slighty. Corrine of Amber says, "We didn't get the bison stampede, though." Juri of Avalon says, "If our Questing Beasts, as it would seem, are the same, then it seems likely our Green Knights are as well." Corrine of Amber nods. "The protector of Arden, to my understanding." Juri of Avalon says, "The Knight is part of a primal force predating the Patterns, or so I was told, admittedly by a source I put no trust in now but who had no reason to lie of this when he told me of it." Corrine of Amber mmmms, quietly. She blushes a bit. "Or at least a part of the Patterns." Juri of Avalon observes the blush with vague interest, but says nothing. You page, "[Corrine] (look, when one makes love to an Avatar of the Pattern, it kinda puts one's doubts to rest in that respect.)" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Heh." to you. Corrine of Amber does not elucidate. Juri of Avalon continues riding her 75 MPH horse towards Amber. "This would be much quicker if combustion engines worked, or Julian could reach me..." She sighs. Corrine of Amber hehs a bit. "If I could reach Gabrielle, I could have her try to trump or gate us there, though I doubt she'd be able to get good range without a decent fire." She then chuckles, looking down at Juri's horse. "Nice horse... what's her name?" Juri of Avalon says, "Arisugawa." Corrine of Amber blinks at this. She then starts to laugh, a clear, happy thing, not directed at Juri of Avalon, but at the circumstance that she's now in. Juri of Avalon asks, "Were I a scholar rather than a warrior, the metaphysics of this might be fascinating. What's the other me like?" Juri of Avalon chuckles a little along with Corrine. Corrine of Amber says, "... oh... oh -my-... that's..." she tries to stifle the laughter, with some success. "... my sister, Juri?" She smiles fondly. "Strong. A renowned warrior, a leader of armies, a philosopher... quiet most of the time, but very perceptive... and growing into the role of Mother as well." Her expression saddens a bit. "...I hope someday she realizes she got her miracle." Corrine of Amber says, "She used to be Marshal of our armies before she decided to retire. Her call, of course." Juri of Avalon looks suddenly sombre. "A mother... not something I've ever really thought of myself as becoming." Corrine of Amber quiets. "I don't think Juri... my Juri did, either." Juri of Avalon says, "I suppose I'm in retirement myself at the moment." Her expression darkens further. "My family and home faced a recent crisis of great proportions. Now that it is finished, circumstances made me decide it might be time to get away for a while." She smiles a little, though it's bitter-edged. "Not this far away, I'll admit." Corrine of Amber mms, and chuckles a bit, though it too is sardonic. "Ourselves? We're in the -middle- of the Crisis Du Jour. Which is why if I start to get impatient with the prospect of getting home, it's not being directed at you, okay?" She manages a half-smile. "I've spent centuries and decades building my home and watching my family grow up... I couldn't bear to lose it now." Juri of Avalon looks sympathetic, hesitates for a moment, then says, "If it is not presumptuous to do so, I would willingly offer my aid. The Beast brought me here for some purpose, after all." Juri of Avalon asks, "I made... many mistakes during the trying times my family faced. I do not feel yet that I have fully atoned for them. Not that I ever truly can..." Her eyes fix on Corrine's face for a moment, and she looks grieved to the core of her being. Then she hides it. "But I should like to help. What do you face?" Corrine of Amber blinks, and smiles, and offers her hand. "If we can figure a way to traverse our respective realities without -having- to use the Beast to do so... yes, I accept. I speak for my own kingdom at least, if not of Amber proper." She looks back into Juri's eyes, so similar to her sister's yet different, and perhaps not fully understanding of the situation Juri of Avalon went through, but sympathetic to it all the same. After all, everybody goes through Hell sometime. "We face a madman known to us as Annadil, who has powers beyond our full comprehension, who leads a force of our own dopplegangers, save insane, towards some goal that none of us fully understand, save for the dire warnings of propesies and cast fortunes." She sighs. "I feel like I'm falling two steps behind for every step I take to counter, though I'm not the only one, and we have made some headway." Touga exclaims, "(ooc) Whoa, Nelly! Long-ass say!" Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Mmmm, buffers. Gomen! Did anything get chopped?" Juri of Avalon nods. "I know the feeling too well. I had a conversation with my Uncle Finn once: 'Do you ever feel like a pawn in a game of kings and queens?' 'Actually, Juri, I'm currently feeling like the square in the middle of the board.'" Corrine of Amber chuckles, and nods. "That sounds so familiar. I'll be amazed if we survive all this with our family members and sanities intact, truth tell. But I remain hopeful." Corrine of Amber says, "We survived the multitude of wars through our long and tangled history. We survived the Succession Crisis. We can survuve this. -HOW- is the going question." Corrine of Amber quirks a smile. Juri of Avalon says, "We lost several members of my family," Juri says softly. "My Uncle Finndo--though he was the one to raise civil war against Avalon and the one who murdered my mother, so I take joy in his death--my Uncle Venir..." Juri of Avalon says, "And my sister, Darako." Juri of Avalon looks away from Corrine. You page, "Okay to trigger on the Venir name?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "I don't think anyone's told you about VENIR have they?" to you. You page, "Fuyutsuki mentioned him when Shaft and Fuy arrived in Ember." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Twig then." to you. Corrine of Amber sucks in a quiet breath, and then nods. "She who you mistook me for. What... was she like?" Corrine of Amber then pauses, her mind rewinding over what was just said. Corrine of Amber says, "....'venir'?" Corrine of Amber says, "I've heard of a VENIR... mentioned in passing, a while back." Juri of Avalon says, "Darako? She was an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, homicidal punk with no fashion sense and horrible taste in music," Juri says affectionately. "She was also the bravest, strongest person I ever knew, although I didn't realize it until after she was gone." Juri of Avalon says, "Darako... is difficult for me to talk about. I should rather not say more than that. Venir? Venir was my uncle, who sought the Truth and gazed into the Abyss. The Abyss not only gazed also, it ate his brain and made him into its slave." Corrine of Amber nods. "Very well, then. We shall let it got at that. Hrm. Perhaps not the same man, then. I just know that a man, calling himself VENIR 2.0, appeared and attacked one of my nephews who was on a quest related to the recent crisis. He called down a rain of glass, and they barely managed to escape. I was going to check on Shizumaru when I got back home, but..." She shrugs. Corrine of Amber places a comforting hand on Juri's shoulder. Well, hopefully it'll be interpreted that way, at least. Juri of Avalon says, "VENIR 2.0?" She frowns. "Like a computer? Venir was kind of a super-hacker..." Juri of Avalon doesn't seem to mind the touch, but doesn't really acknowledge it, either. Corrine of Amber shrugs. "I have little more information that that, I'm afraid. But yes, it sounds like a revision number. Again, I was going to ask Shizumaru, but missed the opportunity." She removes her hand after a bit. Juri of Avalon says, "Perhaps I should talk to this Shizumaru. Venir did do an experiment where he attempted to ascend into a higher state, using a device built upon a Broken Pattern. It could, perhaps, have cast some doppelganger of him into your universe." Juri of Avalon says, "Of course, that is all dependent on getting back to your world." Corrine of Amber says, "Ah, yes, I was just about to mention that." She chuckles slightly. "But yes, that sounds like a good idea." Juri of Avalon looks around. "This forest makes the Lethe look like a backyard grove." Lightning crackles on cue. Corrine of Amber smiles, a little proud. "If this forest maps to Arden as close as it seems, then it's at least four days travel from south to north, six days from east to west---" She looks up. "... Oh hell." Corrine of Amber tries to gauge, give her knoweldge, of how much further they've got to go until they reach the city. And if they're not in 75MPH range, where the best shelter would be. Juri of Avalon shrugs, already pretty soaked from chasing the Questing Beast. You're in a forest, so there's some shelter from the trees. That's about the best you're likely to do. And since you can't go full speed in a thick forest, it's likely going to be quite a while before you get anywhere, although you could try steering for the much nearer Warden's Lodge. Corrine of Amber starts pointing out directions to the Warden's Lodge! Well, if there's one here.... Juri of Avalon shrugs again. Corrine seems to know this place better than her. She follows the directions. As you move along, a flickering shape suddenly appears in front of you, of a man clad in white armor. Almost like a ghost, or a projection. Corrine of Amber blinks at the man in white armor. She tries adressing it. "Hello?" Juri of Avalon reins Arisugawa up short. Corrine of Amber holds on, not getting off for the moment. The armored man looks right through you. "Hello. If you can see this, you're at the border of the zone I makes with 'no-go' signs so carefully. You ignored them, apparently, and thus are recieving this message. I'd chide you for it, but as you're undoubably going to die anyway I won't bother. Hopefully, King Random will send condolences to your next of kin." Corrine of Amber says, "........" Juri of Avalon says, "..." You page, "DID Corrine see any such viewable signs that she would recognize? She sure as heck doesn't want to get blamed." to Akemi. "Did you see any 'no-go' signs?" Juri asks quietly. Akemi pages, "Nope, but you could easily have entered this arden INSIDE the no-go zone." to you. "I will endeavor to recover your mauled, abused, bloody corpses for your relatives to bury. Fare thee well for the rest of your tragically brief lifespan." It vanishes. Corrine of Amber shakes her head, slowly, in a negative fasion. "None that I recognized... though for all I know we could have appeared -inside- it..." she replies equally quietly. "Well, fuck," Juri says eloquently. Corrine of Amber says, "I second that emotion." Juri of Avalon reaches down and draws the long sabre at her side, then turns Arisugawa in a slow circle, looking for any danger. You page, "Tactical knowledge time -- which best way to get the hoek outta there alive?" to Akemi. Corrine of Amber draws her own blade, a broadsword, after double-checking that her back-slung crossbow at least has a few quarrels in it. Sure, the manifestation options aren't available, but it's still nicely springy-loaded. Juri of Avalon swings down from Arisugawa. Juri of Avalon asks, "You hear anything?" You hear a thrashing in the distance, moving quickly closer. Akemi pages, "You'd guess back the way you came, but you really don't know how large the no-go zone is or how it's shaped." to you. Corrine of Amber gauges the climbability of the trees and the sounds of the wood before getting off the horse as well. Hey, she figures that any Juri that's relaitvely sane is a good one to follow.... Touga says, "Sounds like a fairly good-sized thing..." Corrine of Amber points in the directions of the sound. "Does that count?" Juri of Avalon asks, "Hmm. Does running like hell sound good?" A huge troll, at least 15-feet and covered with scabbarous green skin, bursts out of the trees at a dead charge. Juri of Avalon just looks at it. "Oh, please." Juri of Avalon converts Arisugawa to force sword mode and attempts to raise the energy blade. Akemi pages, "Pretty climbable." to you. It ignores you, and dashes past, obviously scared out of its tiny mind. Corrine of Amber tenses, and shifts to the side... and then pauses. Another thrashing gets closer. Juri of Avalon says, "..." Corrine of Amber says, "That... okay. That was --- erm?" Corrine of Amber says, "How good are you at climbing trees? Because if so, I advise you start." Juri of Avalon says, "Why don't we just run like hell, instead?" Juri of Avalon OOC: "Back to horsey mode. :)" A massive, tentacled abomination bursts from the forest, lurching on lepreous pseudopods, batlike stubby wings flapping fitfully. Corrine of Amber looks at Juri dubiously, and then shrugs. "Suit yourself... get your horse in gea---GAH!" You page, "Does corrine recog that kind of critter?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Some sort of nasty chaos demon looking thing." to you. Juri of Avalon gets up on the horse, and Runs Like Hell as soon as Corrine is up, unless that's now unfeasible, in which case it's Combat Time. It also proceeds to ignore you, and shuffles past as quickly as it can manage. Corrine of Amber hops up on the darn horse! Corrine of Amber asks, "Why do I get the feeling these creatures of large and dubious intentions are running from something much bigger and nastier than them?" A third, even greater trashing draws near. Juri of Avalon asks, "Reminds me of a forest fire," Juri says, as she starts the horse up. "Where to?" Juri of Avalon says, "Wait. Never mind. Away from thrashing." As Juri gallops into gear, a HUGE, flaming dog bursts from the woods, in hot pursuit of the other two, a dead troll in its mouth. It catches sight of you, and spits the troll out. You page, "Could corrine trigger on its familiarity to a Hellhound in the Corona?" to Akemi. Juri of Avalon says, "Oh. A flaming dog. I see." "Yo quiero Royal Family," it says clearly, then snarls and charges after you. Then she proceeds to get the hell away. Corrine of Amber says, "......." Juri of Avalon says, "..." Corrine of Amber says, "this is NOT my father's Arden." Corrine of Amber says, "I would just like to state that for the record. Thank you." Alan asks, "Just how big a dog we talking about, anyway?" Akemi pages, "It does have some similarity to one" to you. Okay. Arisugawa seems faster than this thing, but not by much... Juri of Avalon curses. Small elepahnt size. Corrine of Amber frowns. "Hell... it seems like a Hellhound from the Corona.... okay, so not a size suitable for Ringling....." Juri of Avalon sighs. "You're good with that crossbow?" Corrine of Amber unslings her crossbow, cocking it and aiming with it. "Use 'em all the time. That count?" Juri of Avalon says, "It depends entirely how often you hit what you're aiming at." You page, "Where would be the best place to shoot for quick kill on the critter? Given that no trumps/pattern, she's only got a limited amount of ammo at the moment..." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Eyeball, you'd guess." to you. Juri of Avalon OOCly says, "This is so much more fucked up than I possibly imagined Juri's fate post-Avalon could possibly be." You page, "(and I'd think Corrine's at least DECENT with a crossbow... her average kill ratio with 'em?)" to Akemi. Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "is just along for the ride!" Juri of Avalon OOCly says, "'Oh, hi Juri, where were you?' 'Oh, I got chased by a giant flaming chihuaha while in the company of a physical duplicate of my dead sister from another universe.'" Akemi pages, "Pretty good, but you've never hunted anything elephant sized with one." to you. Juri of Avalon tries to think of ways to ditch the dog. You could try and find a river. Corrine of Amber says, "You're reminding me more and more of my own Juri all the time, Juri..." She takes aim for the creature's eyeball -- Cold Iron crossbow bolt -- "You want me to fire?" Juri of Avalon looks for a river. You page, "Oh, if ONLY it could shift to whalekiller mode... *pause* Can it shift? There'd be at least one regular bolt in it...." to Akemi. Juri of Avalon says, "Well, I don't think we need to worry about making it any madder, so, yes." Akemi pages, "Yes, it can shift" to you. Corrine of Amber pauses, and gets a gleam in her eye. "You've got it!" Touga oocly exits for sleep... I leave you in John's capable hands. Well, the water seems to be running off generally westward from where you are, off to your right. Corrine of Amber's crossbow abruptly changes shape.... it looks like a crossbow still, but of a size suitable for whales instead of regular forest critters. Corrine of Amber fires a whalekiller-sized bolt at the flaming elephant-sized hellhound's eye. Juri of Avalon shrugs, and does whatever she thinks best to lose the dog, as she's a hell of a lot better at it than Alan ever could be. The flaming elephant sized hellhound leaps as you fire, and catches the bolt in its mouth as it rolls to one side, then chews it up and eats it. Corrine of Amber exclaims, "SHIT!" "Good doggie," Juri says drolly, sighing gently Corrine of Amber waits to see if it drops pursuit. This does, fortunately, slow the thing down as it gets back up to speed. Meanwhile Juri continues following the water on the ground, coming to a stream. Follow this long enough, and it'll get up to river size. The Hellhound continues to chase you. "Yo Quiero Mas Boltas!" Corrine of Amber tries firing another Whalekiller bolt at the big o'l Hellhound, this time trying to anticipate it if it jumps. Juri of Avalon hits the hellhound with a Neural Disrupt while Corrine does this. It leaps and catches and eats the bolt again, crashes into more trees, and loses more ground as it does so. You're not sure if your neural disrupt worked or not, but you're inclined to suspect you'll need its true name to break through its defenses. The stream begins getting larger as you flee. You page, "... two bolts left.... joyyyy..." to Akemi. Juri of Avalon shrugs. Curse my puny Psyche! You page, "(not that they've been helping THAT much, but hey, every little bit helps....)" to Akemi. As you flee along the stream, the spectral man in white armor appears again, "Best you turn back even though you ignored the first set of markers, unless you really enjoying flaming death. But then, you kids just don't seem to know when not to stick your noses into things." He makes shooing motions the direction you're going. "Go home." Corrine of Amber yells at the spectral image of the man. "We're trying! We're TRYING! Yeeesh!" Corrine of Amber then asides to Juri. "At least we seem to be heading in the right direction, though, I suppose." Less obstructed in the stream, you are slowly pulling ahead. Other than getting whacked by a lot of branches. Juri of Avalon says, "Well, I'd turn around if it didn't mean running straight into the jaws of the giant flaming dog." Corrine of Amber says, "I'd rather avoid that, thanks." Corrine of Amber tries firing another Whalekiller bolt at Rover, once things apear relatively clear. She's used to being whacked by branches. Juri of Avalon nods. "Then we're in agreement. And I've a certain perversity of nature that makes me want to know just what we're being kept away from." Juri of Avalon says, "Interesting that the white-armoured spook spoke of King Random. Random is the king of the other Amber I know of, where my cousin Horatio's father hails from." The dog catches a third bolt, and now it's hard to see it behind you through the trees, although you can certainly hear it. If it wasn't for the constant rain, Arden would probably be burning from all the fire damage he's doing to things as he smacks into them. Corrine of Amber says, "I'm afraid I'm not too up on alternate Ambers and their royal families..." She smiles a bit. "... I never got into the advanced arts of the Pattern." She sighs a bit at the massive damage. "I think we're pulling ahead, though if there's a Green Knight in this universe, he's going to be pretty pissed at that dog..." Juri of Avalon says, "Neither did I, but I've been forced to learn some things through experience. I met the Creator of the Universe some time back. Short guy. Had a cute grandson." Corrine of Amber says, "Huh." Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "my brain, it huuuurrrts" As you ride along, you're definitely losing the dog. Finally, it gives up and turns back just as you ride past another spectral white armored figure. "Okay, kids, I've finally tracked down this damn thing. I know it's your fault it's here, and if I can ever prove it, you'll die. And I know it must be you who set this off because no one else in Amber is big enough fools to go riding around this part of Arden by themselves. Just turn around and go home, or this thing will likely kill you. Do you understand? GO HOME." Juri of Avalon asks, "Are we still heading towards where Amber would be in your version of Arden, Corrine?" Corrine of Amber resists the urge to flip a Darako-esque gesture towards the spectral figure. She then quickly places landmarks on where they're riding. You page, "Aaaaand... location?" to Akemi. You would guess that Amber is northeast of your current location and you're heading west towards one of the major tributaries of the Barimen river. Juri of Avalon realizes something. "We're not heading into the danger zone. We're moving out of it." That tributary flows north, then northeast, eventually merging into the eastward flow of the Barimen river. Corrine of Amber says, "Amber's to the northeeast of our location... we're moving west towards one of the major tributaries of the Barimen River back home, if this were home." Juri of Avalon says, "The 'warning signs' the first apparition referred to must be these other apparitions we've encountered." Corrine of Amber asks, "...cute. So we hit them backwards?" Juri of Avalon nods and slows Arisugawa. Corrine of Amber concentrates, changing "Corrine's Right" back to its normal crossbow form, instead of Whalekiller. Far away behind you, you hear some incoherent shouting about someone named Eric. Juri of Avalon asks, "Perhaps to avoid this restricted zone and reach whatever lies where Amber would normally, we ought to travel by the river?" You page, "Following the river should lead to Amber, correct?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yep!" to you. Corrine of Amber nods. "Follow the river, and it should take us to Amber City." Corrine of Amber slings her crossbow on her back. Juri of Avalon rides along the course of the river, as per Corrine's direction, and curses the fact that Arisugawa doesn't have a boat form. And off you ride through the drizzling rain. Corrine of Amber copes with the rain. This goes on for hours. Going to just ride 'til you get there, using your Mad Endurance Skillz or stop for sleep when night falls? Juri of Avalon is already soaked from the earlier chase, and really needs a curling iron to put her hair back into shape. Juri of Avalon OOCly says, "While Juri has Mad Endurance Skillz, Arisugawa doesn't have 'em quite so Mad, so it would probably be a good idea to stop." Corrine of Amber could use a hot soak in a tub, and a shower, and a very big meal when this is over. She hrms. "Press on, or try and bivouac when night falls?" Juri of Avalon says, "Bivouac sounds good. I've a tent in my kit that should shield us from the rain." Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Corrine has Mad Endurance Skillz. It's questionable if Corrine's PLAYER has Mad Endurance Skillz, tho." Dowager Queen Anthy says, "OOC Heh :)" Corrine of Amber says, "That sounds excellent." We fade out for now as you make camp, as the GM's shoulder is hurting and he ought to get sleep himself. =========================== =========================== Juri of Avalon nods. "Night."
