Subject: [Amber/TAMD/WRS] Corrine of Amber, Juri of Avalon -- Out Of the Woods Akemi pages, "Come on down, Alan." to you, Kima and Mike. Juri of Avalon says, "Right." Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "So, I figure pick up the next day, with Corrine having the last shift so as to watch the Morning Sunrise?" Juri of Avalon OOC says, "Sounds good." Corrine of Amber OOCly is ready whenever the John-man is. =============================== =============================== Juri of Avalon rolls over in her sleep, clutches her pillow, and murmurs something about somebody called "Rex". Dowager Queen Anthy says, "OOC Righto." Dowager Queen Anthy asks, "OOC Rex?" Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Mike gets it. :)" Corrine of Amber is outside, standing watch over the campsite, leaning against a tree in Arden... and thereby in the perfect position to watch the sun rise. Corrine of Amber has a nearly rapt expression on her face, as if she hasn't seen a true sunrise in a long, long time. Sadly, the heavy clouds and continuing drizzling rain makes for a not very impressive sunrise. Juri of Avalon, being a lifelong soldier, needs no alarm clock to wake the sunrise, and emerges from the tent, frowing at the rain. "Good morning, Corrine." Corrine of Amber sighs a bit at that. Though still, it's rain. In fact, this is beginning to make you wonder if this is the Arden where it never stops raining. Juri of Avalon then begins to make what breakfast she can, given the conditions. Corrine of Amber quirks a slight smile. "Morning, Juri. Still raining, sad to say. I'd hoped it would be otherwise, but..." She shrugs. Juri of Avalon says, softly, "Rain's nice, sometimes." Corrine of Amber doesn't appear to mind the rain either, for that matter. Corrine of Amber nods, slightly. *q* "Especially when one hasn't had it for a long while." Fortunately, the trees do provide enough cover to get a weak fire going and warm up any food you have on you, and there are a fair number of fruit trees and berry bushes. Corrine of Amber moves over to help with Breakfast, especially with fruit-picking. Juri of Avalon asks, after a moment, "Does Ohtori Academy exist in your universe?" Juri, who is no gourmet chef by any means, cooks up plain but nutritious soldier grub, supplemented by picked fruit and berries. You page, "I know corrine has a trump about it, but I don't know if she's ever -attended-... I think it was more for the younger generation...." to Akemi. You page, "Your verdict?" to Akemi. Juri of Avalon says, "Reminds me of my old campaigning days. I haven't cooked breakfast in an ugly drizzle in a long time." Akemi pages, "Hmm. Ohtori was after your time. Utena and Wakaba both went there, though" to you. You page, "That's what I figured. So she's got a trump, but noever really had cause to use it." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You attended their graduations." to you. Akemi pages, "But that's about it." to you. Corrine of Amber chuckles a bit, accepting the campaign grub anyway. "Indeed... and 'Ohtori Academy'?" She thinks a bit, and then pops open her trump case, showing Juri a trump of said academy. "I know -of- it, never really been there. Pretty much before my time. My two youngest sisters, Utena and Wakaba went there, though. I attended their graduations. Mostly, the younger generation's gone there, not I." Juri smiles a bit. "Utena and Wakaba are here, eh? Who else?" She begins reciting names. "Saionji, Miki, Kozue, Nanami..." Pauses briefly. "Touga? Corrine of Amber quirks an eyebrow, and then ticks off on her fingers after she replaces her trump of the academy. "Tylor, Touga, Drake, Saionji, Juri, Myself, Makoto, Nanami, Miki, Kozue, Derith, Utena, Wakaba. Myself and my 12 siblings and half-siblings, the sole surviving children of King Gendo by his various and sundry wives." Juri of Avalon nods and continues eating breakfast. "Fascinating. The universe seems to get bigger and bigger every day." Corrine of Amber says, "They exist in your universe too then, I take it? Related or not?" Corrine of Amber keeps eating as well, needing the nourishment. Juri of Avalon says, "Touga, Miki, Kozue and Nanami exist in my universe, members of the Courts of the Chaos." Corrine of Amber blinks at that. Juri of Avalon says, "Utena is the kin of one of the members of the family of the other Amber I mentioned to you." Corrine of Amber says, ".... Erm." Corrine of Amber says, "Whoo. Right. Deeeefinite differences here." Juri of Avalon says, "Saionji and Wakaba I knew in my days at Ohtori Academy, but they were either of Shadow or have not chosen to reveal themselves in my universe." Juri of Avalon nods. "Indeed." Corrine of Amber nods at this, and hrms, thoughtful. "Did you ever encounter a woman named Anthy?" Juri of Avalon says, "Yes." Corrine of Amber raises her eyebrows, and nods. "Well, in our universe, she's the mother of Utena and Wakaba... heck I talked with her earlier yesterday before the bison attack." She chuckles a bit. "Either the universe as we know it is getting larger and larger, or else it's running out of ideas... but I doubt it." Juri of Avalon says, "Anthy, in a way, is the mother of the Utena of my universe." Juri of Avalon asks, "Do you know if your Anthy has a brother?" Corrine of Amber says, "Huh." She then pauses, and shakes her head. "Not that I know of. Then again, it can be hard to fully get answers out of the Dowager Queen if she doesn't want them to be said." She quirks a smile. "Don't know, never had a reason to ask." Juri of Avalon nods again and finishes up her breakfast. "Shall we resume?" Juri of Avalon says, "Our journey, I should say." Corrine of Amber nods, getting up. "Yes, let's." She starts cleaning up the campsite while Juri takes care of the tent and horse. Juri of Avalon packs away the tent and the breakfast kit, then mounts up on Arisugawa. "I do wonder just what we left behind us in that 'restricted zone', but..." You both feel as if something is watching you. Corrine of Amber thinks, hopping up as well. "WEll, in the direction we were headed before the first/final warning, that would have been where my Stronghold would have been, but... ---" Corrine of Amber hesitates, her senses alert for the movements of the forest, as one almost born to them., Juri of Avalon silently looks to Corrine, realizes she's noticed it as well, shrugs, and tries to locate a more specific location for the feeling of being watched. There's a falcon watching you from a tree. It looks wet and cranky. Corrine of Amber tries to place the watching sensation. She quirks an eyebrow at the falcon, and waves at it, smiling. Corrine of Amber murmurs to Juri. "Start moving along the riverbank for Amber City. We'll see if it follows." It gives a cry and flies off into the 'no-go' zone. Juri of Avalon considers flipping the bird to the bird, shrugs, then starts riding as Corrine directed. The day goes by in the constant miserable drizzle without significant incident. You simply ride on along the stream, which flows into larger streams, until finally, it's a small river. Juri of Avalon hums "Rain" under her breath. Corrine of Amber looks up at the clouds, ruefully, monitoring their progress along the river, and giving direction-adjustements to lead them to Amber. Corrine estimates you should hit the main river by lunch tomorrow, then you can follow it to Amber, ideally. You page, "This the version of "Rain" by boa?" to Kima. Kima pages, "The Cowboy Bebop version, actually." to you. Juri of Avalon hopes to hell we're going to get _somewhere_. You page, "Aaah, okay." to Kima. Juri of Avalon says, "Otherwise that means we need to head back to the restricted zone and deal with the flaming chihuaha." Corrine of Amber winces at the thought of facing the flaming chihuaha. "No thanks... I'm continuing to get the feeling that someone else runs this forest, and he doesn't take as kindly to interlopers as I do. *pause* Well, I don't either, but I at least consider wether people are honestly -lost- or not." She quirks a smile. There are plenty of game animals if you want fresh meat. Juri of Avalon shrugs. "As the spectre mentioned Random, we may be in the other Amber I told you about, for Random is king there." As you camp for the night, the rain finally stops, although the clouds remain. Corrine of Amber nods. "Right. Hrm. Want fresh meat for dinner tonight?" She pauses, and hehs. "I know a Random. He's one of my rangers, though." She shakes her head, returning back to her previous train of thought. "I'm just concerned about what their policy on poaching might be, if we're still considered trespassers." Juri of Avalon says, "Best not to risk it." Corrine of Amber nods. "Agreed." Juri of Avalon cooks another nutritious, tasteless soldier meal for dinner. The clouds break for about an hour that night, enabling you to see the stars. The constellations are familiar, and so is the moon. Corrine of Amber is right now hungry enough to gnaw raw tree bark if necessary, so doesn't complain. She gasps a bit as the stars come out during her shift. Corrine of Amber looks up, eyes wide. [...and turns lesbian.] Juri of Avalon exclaims, "OOC: My God! It's full of stars!" Corrine of Amber OOCly shoots the spoofer with her crossbow. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Oh, if only..." Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: o/~ Who likes short shorts? / We like short shorts..." Dowager Queen Anthy noogies everyone. The clouds then close in and the drizzling starts again. Corrine of Amber just appreciates the stars for as long as they're out, and the moon, her mind mapping the constellations, studying the moon, trying to look for a view of Tir'na-Nog... she then sighs as the drizzle starts once more. Corrine of Amber decides to make the best of it, and just appreciates the feel of water against skin for a while, at least until it's time for her and Juri to exchange shifts. Juri of Avalon comes out at her shift, greets Corrine, and settles down under the shelter of a tree to keep the watch while Corrine sleeps. Corrine of Amber nods to Juri, and goes into the tent to sleep. Presumably, the rest of the night is spent in such a fasion. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Except for when Juri comes in very quietly and undresses Corrine with her eyes while licking her lips, but... :)" Around what might be three AM, you hear the sound of barking in the distance, and the sound of something running roughly towards your camp at high speed. Sounds like wolves or dogs chasing some kind of quadruped. Corrine of Amber immediately snaps awake, her weapons in their rightful places. "Juri! We've got company!" Juri of Avalon already has her sword drawn and is waiting in the cover of the trees. Corrine of Amber climbs a tree with her own crossbow readied, perching on the lowest branch, so as not to be run over. A deer bolts into view. About a dozen or so hounds are chasing it at high speeds. Lowest branch that can support her weight, that is. Juri of Avalon shrugs and swings up into the tree beside Corrine with easy grace. Corrine of Amber says, "...." Juri of Avalon says, "Ahh, the cycle of nature continues." Corrine of Amber says, "looks like a hunt... but damn early for one, by my lights." Juri of Avalon then remembers about her horse and has Arisugawa change into a car so that the dogs won't bother her. "Maybe it's the wild hunt?" Juri drawls. Corrine of Amber stares at the horse-car change. Well, for a moment at least. Corrine of Amber . o O (A car in Arden. Suuuuure, THAT's inconspicuous.) The dogs skid to a halt and stare at the car. Then barking furiously, they attack the car, trying to eat it. However, it seems to be a little too tough for them, even the tires. The deer pauses, stares at them, then bolts at high speed. Corrine of Amber says, "Juri? Those dogs are attacking your horse. Car. Whatever." Juri of Avalon says, "It's tough. They won't bother it." Corrine of Amber says, "So I see." Corrine of Amber shrugs, in almost a near-mirror image of Juri's shrugs. Juri of Avalon idly waits for the dogs to grow bored with her car. The dogs are becoming more and more frustrated as they can't even put dents in the bumper. Juri of Avalon says, "Mind you, if they decide to start fouling it or climbing on the upholstery, I'm going down there." Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "[Dogs] (OOC) . o O (Damn, it's not like Corwin's Caddilac... THAT was good eating.)" Corrine of Amber says, "Oh, of course. It's a good car." Juri of Avalon says, "Yes. Leather upholstery's a bitch to clean." The dogs begin climbing onto it, trying to eat the upholstery and chewing pathetically on the top. Also, it's raining into the poor car. Corrine of Amber nods in agreement, knowing how hard it is to clean her own hunting leathers at times. She then sighs at the dogs. Juri of Avalon sighs and gets out of the tree. "Shoo! Shoo! Bad doggies!" Juri of Avalon exclaims, "Leave my car alone!" Corrine of Amber covers Juri from the tree branch. The dogs turn and stare at you. They sniff the air. Juri of Avalon readies Eternity's Rose to smack them about with the flat of the blade if need be. They split into two groups of six, circling to your left and right growling. Juri of Avalon says, "Shoo, I said. Go chase the deer. It's tastier than my car." Corrine of Amber readies her crossbow, and then hrms. You page, "Good ways to distract the dogs? I'm thinking corrine throwing her voice a bit while firing into the woods so as to make noise in that direction...." to Akemi. They begin to advance, hackles raised, growling but not charging. It's pretty clear from your experience with dogs that they're trying to scare you into running. You page, "Or corrine can do the wait-and-see thing... after all, she -is- a Warden. *wry look*" to Akemi. Juri of Avalon stares back at them disdainfully. "I know how to deal with puppies--I didn't spend all that time hanging around with Horatio for nothing. Shoo, I said." She waves her sword at them. Akemi pages, "If these are trained hunting hounds, which is the impression you're getting, they'll probably ignore sounds unless those are sounds they're trained to respond to." to you. You page, "Right. Shelve that thought, then. [Corrine] Good." to Akemi. Juri of Avalon mutters, "If only I had some manticore jerky... dogs come running for the taste of real manticore..." Akemi pages, "However, you could try some of the codes that your hunting hounds respond to back in your Arden." to you. Corrine of Amber hrms. There is a pause, as they clearly assess why you aren't running in fear like you're supposed to. Corrine of Amber immediately whistles, a clarion call for the hounds to heel. At least, for the hounds in her own Arden.... Corrine of Amber . o O (Either this will work, or I will then be Treed. Yay.) The hounds look confused, then go to heel. Juri of Avalon says, "Good dogs," Juri says cheerfully, giving Corrine a thumbs-up. You page-pose, "Aerianne tries to think of the usual commands for the hounds. Heel, stay, follow, pursue, hunt, etc...." to Akemi. Corrine of Amber grins, giving Juri a thumbs-up in return, as she does another whistle... this one the command for them to stay where they are. Akemi pages, "Yep." to you. The dogs stay where they are. You page, "Is it me... or is Julian going to be REAAAAAALLLY ticked if he finds out about this? :)" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Hehe." to you. Juri of Avalon cautiously sheathes her sword and approaches the dogs, extending a hand for them to sniff. The dogs all take a good sniff, continuing to look confused. Juri of Avalon pats the nice doggies. "Looks like they're just big softies. They seem well-trained, though; I wonder where their trainer is?" Corrine of Amber chuckles a bit, and slings her crossbow, and then lowers herself... slowly and non-threateningly to the ground. "... probably this universe's Warden. I used my own codes for them..." You hear a rustling up above, and you see a falcon flying away. Juri of Avalon says, "It seems that if we are in the Amber of King Random, it is quite close to yours." Corrine of Amber looks up at the flying falcon, pursing her lips. "So it'd appear." "The falcon again" Juri watches it go. "A spy? The hounds cock their heads and look at Corrine, then look slightly less confused. Corrine of Amber moves over to introduce herself to the nice doggies who can tear off the bumpers of mere mortal cars, also extending a hand to sniff. "Given the events of the prior night, when we felt watched... I wouldn't be surprised." Corrine of Amber whistles again for the hounds to heel. The hounds heel again and relax as they take a sniff of you. Juri of Avalon says, "OOCly: Fortunately, the Juri-Car is no mere mortal car. :)" Corrine of Amber smiles, murmuring to the hounds in soothing tones. Corrine of Amber OOCly somewhat figured that when it changed shape! Corrine of Amber gives them good blandishments, and a little bit of doggy treats from one of her belt pouches as a reward. Juri of Avalon says, "OOCly: If Julian's flux-pin connector was working, we could be riding the Juri-Copter to Amber. :)" Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Woohoo!" This pleases them greatly. They finish relaxing and now seem more like frisky doggies than engines of destruction. Corrine of Amber OOCly just breaks over here, mind. Go, Warden Corrine! Corrine of Amber smiles more fully, and skritches them behind the ears, in her element. Corrine of Amber says, "Check the car, see how it's doing, and start packing? If that falcon was a spy, I don't want to be here much longer...." Juri of Avalon says, "Agreed." Juri of Avalon goes over the car and cleans dog hair off the seats. Corrine of Amber plays with the nice kawaii furry engines of destruction. Then she breaks camp again, changes the car back into its horse form, and mounts up. Arf! Arf! The dogs all bark and start following you as you go. Corrine of Amber hrms, looking rueful at the hounds. "'They followed us home, mom... can we keep them?'" She quirks an eyebrow as she mounts up with Juri on the horse. Juri of Avalon shrugs. "An escort." Corrine of Amber says, "Works for me." Corrine of Amber grins. Juri of Avalon says, "OOCly: If they can keep pace with Arisugawa the Wonder-Horse. :)" You page, "Aaah. Nothing like ranger/Warden training, and a bit 'o good stuff. ;)" to Akemi. Dowager Queen Anthy says, "OOC gonna push up to full speed? That'll be tricky in thick forest." Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Corrine would advise not to, given her own experiences, even with Sparky." Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: No, not gonna push up to full speed. I don't mind the dogs." Dowager Queen Anthy lags Corrine of Amber OOCly thinks the dogs are cute! They're not elven, but they remind her of home. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Juri likes dogs. She should tell Corrine the whole story about the Questing Beast hunt sometime. :)" Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Corrine would listen! Hey, she's now -really- curious about that Questing Beast thing, now." Corrine of Amber hrms, and gauges, givine their departure in the middle of the pre-dawn time, how long/how far it should be to Amber now. Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "She'd probably tell tales in return about Sparky, given she helps raise the bugger in her Amber." You cruise along through the forest with happy dogs barking and waking up the neighborhood. You would estimate you'll hit the Barimen River by dawn, which means then two more days to Amber City. Corrine of Amber hrms, and whistles another command to the dogs, this one for them to be a little more quiet, though by now it's likely too late. She smiles as the Barimen comes into view... "Ahh, the Barimen River. Two days east, and we'll hit Amber City. If we're lucky, there'll be river-trafic." Juri of Avalon says, "I hope so. A boat would be a nice change from all this riding." Corrine of Amber chuckles, keeping her eyes peeled for boats they can hopefully fast-talk a ride on. A road runs along the Barimen river, which you can now ride on. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Corrine can charm us a ride with her short shorts. :)" Corrine of Amber OOCly isn't wearing them for this adventure! *COUGH* Standard ranger wear for her, -thank- you. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: o/~ We like short shorts..." You page, "I made the mistake of pointing out http://www.eyrie.org/~aerianne/dld/amber/Corrine.tee.cc.jpg to Alan. I'm soooorrrieeeeee....." to Akemi. You ride for three hours, then come round a bend in the river, and can see off down the road where there is a small posthouse, probably for the forest rangers. In fact, there's a good two dozen forest ranger types on horseback there, along with another pack of hounds rather like the ones following you. Juri of Avalon looks pleased at the sight. "Perhaps we can find out where we are." Corrine of Amber purses her lips at the sight of the roadblock. She nods a bit, and murmurs. "Provided we don't get a chilly reception or pursuit out of them." Corrine of Amber asks, "At least we're on a road now... how fast can your horse go, top speed?" Corrine of Amber says, "Just in case." Juri of Avalon says, "Seventy-five miles an hour or so." You page, "What's the avg. speed of a ranger's horse in TAMD-Arden?" to Akemi. One of the rangers whistles, and your pack of dogs runs on ahead of you, barking happily. The other dogs start barking, and soon there's an utter cacophony. Corrine of Amber waves to the nice doggies. Akemi pages, "normal horse speeds." to you. Akemi pages, "MUCH slower than that." to you. Corrine of Amber nods. "You'd easily outpace normal Ranger's horses in my Arden. I suspect these would be the same." Juri of Avalon waves to the nice rangers. "Hail and well met." Corrine of Amber smiles to the nice rangers next as they get within range. "Morning." Corrine of Amber holds herself as a Ranger would, out of instinct. 10 years on the throne of Ember hasn't dimmed that training in the slightest. Two of the rangers ride forward. "Good morning, ladies. Do you have a royal pass for travel through Arden?" Juri of Avalon asks, "We were unaware such was necessary," Juri says politely. "We have come to this place by rather strange circumstances. May I ask who rules this land?" You page, "Corrine would have some in her pouch... admittedly, she usually has them OUT, being warden, but I think she's got copies, if that's okay?" to Akemi. You page, "Or corrine will let Juri do the talking. *wg*" to Akemi. Corrine of Amber keeps her eyes on the number and the state of readiness of the rangers, letting Juri do the talking. The ranger on the left, who Juri can now see looks somewhat like her brother Walker, says, "You are in Arden the Great, administered by Prince Julian of Amber." The other rangers have the look of men who can't believe you don't know where you are. "I apologize for our unauthorized intrusion," Juri says, giving the rangers her best smile. "We have, as I said, come by strange circumstances. I am Princess Juri of Avalon. My companion..." She glances back at Corrine. Corrine of Amber nods at this, and smiles warmly at the rangers as well. "Princess Corrine, of Amber, albeit not this one. I too, apologize." Juri of Avalon asks, "If I may ask, who is king in this Amber?" Corrine of Amber . o O (I think mentioning I'm Warden of Arden back home would be too much for them to swallow. Or for that matter, Queen of Ember...) You hear one of the rangers mutter something about Avalon having been destroyed. The 'Walker' like Ranger says, "The Amber. And the Eternal City is currently ruled by King Random, son of King Oberon." He continues, "So how did you come into Arden?" One of the rangers blurts out, "Hey, you haven't seen anyone named Finndo have you?" Juri of Avalon says, "I myself was led here by the Questing Beast, and encountered the Princess Corrine along the way." Corrine of Amber shakes her head at the ranger. "The name doesn't ring a bell, sorry." She smiles slightly. "I knew a Finndo in my land, though I doubt him the same one. My uncle, who raised civil war against my family, and was slain on the field by my brother Trucido. Juri of Avalon says, "The Princess Corrine and I would like to pay our respects to King Random." Corrine of Amber nods. The ranger says, "There's a good half-dozen of them. What did he look like?" Juri of Avalon asks, "He had three arms. Does that narrow it down?" The ranger thinks for a moment. "Did he fight with magical maces?" One of the rangers says, "Damn. I knew they were degenerates." Corrine of Amber does not outwardly react to the mention of a 3-Armed Finndo. Then again, she hasn't reacted to a mention of a 2-armed or 1-armed Finndo, either... Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Crisis of Infinite Finndo's!" Juri of Avalon says, "He did." Corrine of Amber OOCly thwaps himself. Juri of Avalon bristles a little at the comment, but refrains from saying anything back. The ranger says, "Right. And you say he got killed? What about his kids?" The 'Walker' like ranger says, "Hmm. Well, could be some sort of lead. If you'll come with us, we can take you to Prince Julian. He'll want to know about this." Juri of Avalon says, "I do not believe our Finndo had any children." Juri of Avalon says, "Although he claimed my brother Trucido as his son, before Trucido learned the truth." Juri of Avalon says, "We should be glad to meet with Prince Julian." Corrine of Amber nods. "Indeed. Lead the way." They lead you down the road for two hours, then off down a long trail. This ride goes on for quite some time, until finally, you come to a very large hunting lodge. Taking the horses to the stable, and leaving the dogs outside, they take you inside to the great hall, where Prince Julian, still clad in his white scale armor, is waiting for you. It's the man from those spectral messages. You page, "Okay, so where is this loc relative to Corrine's Arden? Since I don't think with everything it's in the same place..." to Akemi. You page, "And where was the Grove of the Unicorn in relation to both?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "There's nothing here but trees in your Arden." to you. Akemi pages, "It's a good two days ride south of here, you think." to you. Juri of Avalon bows slightly to Julian and introduces herself. "Princess Juri of Avalon. I believe you may know of my family's recent troubles, which were tied in their way to the troubles of your family." Prince Julian of Amber looks you up and down. Corrine of Amber dusts off her hunting leathers, proceeding with Juri to the man, and bowing as well. "Princess Corrine of Amber, though not this one." She smiles slightly. Juri of Avalon. o O (He's undressing me with his eyes, I just know it.) Corrine of Amber . o O (Everything's calm, Everything's cool, I will not mouth off, it would be bad. Queens do not mouth off.) Prince Julian of Amber looks at the two of you, then looks very hard at Corrine, looking thoughtful. He then turns his gaze back to Juri. "Avalon? It is my understanding that Avalon was destroyed centuries ago. And Corwin will never shut up about it." Corrine of Amber matches Julian's thoughtful gaze, keeping her own counsel on these matters of Avalons. Juri of Avalon looks briefly confused, then hides it. "Our difficulties involved your brother Brand; a role was also played by your siblings Bleys, Dierdre and Fiona." She pauses briefly. "I also encountered your brothers Benedict and Gerard, albeit briefly." Prince Julian of Amber twitches visibly, then calms himself. "Brand? What dealings did you have with Brand?" Prince Julian of Amber grips one of the arms of his chair with his left hand. Prince Julian of Amber blinks. "Wait. Dierdre was involved as well?" Juri of Avalon asks, "If I am to assume that your Amber is the Amber I believe it to be... you have gone through what is called the Patternfall War, have you not?" Corrine of Amber glances between Julian and Juri. The names aren't familiar, really, though something about parallel situations, given herself and Juri's similarities and differences... she continues to keep quiet, however. Prince Julian of Amber nods. "My brother Brand fell into the abyss and died with two crossbow bolts through his neck. And he took my sister Deirdre with him when he fell. Are you saying they somehow escaped? Did some fool rescue Brand from the Abyss?" Juri of Avalon says, "You know then that your brother Corwin drew a second Pattern, believing the first destroyed. I am from Avalon, the universe created and sustained by Corwin's Pattern." Juri of Avalon says, "Brand manipulated events in my universe so that he was freed from his imprisonment; Dierdre was also freed shortly afterwards." Corrine of Amber raises her eyebrows at this. Though hey, if one can -repair- a Pattern... Prince Julian of Amber nods. "I can see his look in the cast of your features. And your friend wears his colors." Juri of Avalon says, "I, my brother Trucido, my cousin Horatio, and my uncles Finn and Gideon stood against Brand in the Keep of the Four Worlds." Prince Julian of Amber twitches as he listens to your account. "Brand is free. Delightful." Prince Julian of Amber . o O (Why did no one TELL me?) "There I killed Brand and made some recompense for my wrongs." Juri's face darkens for a moment. "I, you see, was manipulated into being the vehicle of Brand's release." Corrine of Amber blinks, and looks down at her leathers, and chuckles a bit. "Sad to say, I've never met this Corwin to whom you refer to... nor was I aware that a Pattern could be drawn as such when one already existed... but then again, these are Interesting Times, I suppose." She quiets a bit as Juri continues. Juri of Avalon says, "I am surprised you do not know the story, Prince Julian. King Random, I know, was made aware..." The door opens, and two people saunter in - a man in an orange trenchcoat and black fedora, smoking a cigarette and looking annoyed, and a pale woman in Full Goth Regalia. "Right!" drawls the man. "We'll take it from here, Julian." Juri of Avalon says, "OOCly: Oh, great, I know who this is..." Corrine of Amber's eyebrows go up at the intruders. They rate 0 on the recognition scale. Prince Julian of Amber turns and frowns at the two people. "The only thing you are taking anywhere is yourselves." Juri of Avalon looks the trenchoat-wearer up and down, approving both of the style and the colour. "Nice coat." Prince Julian of Amber says, "You are not welcome here, especially while I'm trying to clean up after one of your messes." The man blows smoke. "This is our investigation, Prince. We have a warrant." Prince Julian of Amber says, "And put out the cigarrette or I'll put it out for you." The woman adds, "We have badges." Juri of Avalon waves her hand about her nose and frowns at the smoke. Prince Julian of Amber says, "You no doubt have giant badgers as well, and will leave them all over Arden, tearing up the countryside and thinking it is funny." Corrine of Amber suffers the smoke in silence. Hey, Shaft does the same thing. The man drops the cigarette, and grinds it out on the polished wood floor. "Left the badgers home." Corrine of Amber . o O (Giant Badgers.) Prince Julian of Amber frowns. "My floor is not an ashtray." His left hand clenches the armrest of his chair even more tightly. "If you wish to serve a warrant on someone, I suggest you try to arrest the...creature currently burning the Black Oaks area." Juri of Avalon just watches the exchange with vague interest. Corrine of Amber . o O (he's goood.) Prince Julian of Amber says, "Or perhaps you could find the people who broke into Eric's tomb. I suspect it would not be a very long search." The man says, "Look, we have a letter from the King ordering full cooperation. Full. And the creature, if I recall, was designated... hmmm.... your responsibility?" Juri of Avalon says, "Would that be the 'Yo quiero royal family' creature?" Prince Julian of Amber says, "Produce your alleged letter." Prince Julian of Amber nods to Juri. "Yes, it would." Corrine of Amber OOCly pauses. The man roots innocently in his trenchcoat for a while. "Got in here somewhere..." Corrine of Amber OOCly has a sudden mental mapping of Corrine and Juri as Yuri and Kei. Or the other way around, he's not sure. "Quite the dog," she drawls, glancing at Trenchcoat and Goth. "We have badges," the woman notes. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Oh, Juri would _definitely_ be Yuri. :)" The woman pulls a letter out of what looks like a sewing bag. "Here it is." "Yes!" the man says. "there it is. She had it, hahaha." Prince Julian of Amber accepts the letter from the goth woman. Prince Julian of Amber reads out loud, "Dear Rose, while you're out gallivanting about shadow, can you please get me some fine silk cloth from Begma? I need one bolt so I can have some proper drapes made. Your loving mother, Flora." Corrine of Amber keeps a very straight face. Prince Julian of Amber raises an eyebrow at the goth girl, who looks embarrassed. The man looks slightly embarrassed, then pulls a letter from his sleeve. "Oh, here it is." Rose begins digging in her sewing kit, pulling out hand grenades, bottles of coke, a folding lamp, three lawn chairs... Juri of Avalon just looks from Julian to the pair and shakes her head. "I was going to use it to roll cigarettes with," the man says. Prince Julian of Amber folds the letter and hands it back to Rose. Corrine of Amber quirks an eyebrow at the sewing kit of STUFF(tm). Rose waves a five pointed golden badge around. "Here it is! Here's my badge, anyway." Juri of Avalon waits patiently, hoping to get to pay her respects to King Random sometime before the seasons change. Prince Julian of Amber takes the letter and looks at it. "He has a badge," the man points out unnecessarily. "And we have a warrant," he adds. Prince Julian of Amber looks at it very carefully, then holds it in the direction of one of the wall torches and seems to try to look through it. "Hmm, it seems to actually be real. Did you trace Random's signature from another document?" Corrine of Amber peers at the writing on that badge, if she can see it clear enough. Juri of Avalon takes out a nail file and begins buffing her nails, looking bored. The man looks hurt. "Certainly not. We're agents of the crown." Rose's badge says "Special Investigator Rose Floradottir." Rose pins her badge in place. The man sighs. "Do we get them or not, yer Princishness?" Juri of Avalon finishes buffing, takes out a small jar of orange polish, and begins applying that. The man says, "We can always go back and tell Random you're disobeying direct orders from the crown..." Prince Julian of Amber hands the letter back to the man. "Well, I suppose I have to view that as a valid. However, I don't see any suspects in regard to the escape of the Finndo clan, so you can just be heading off to get in trouble elsewhere. Good day." Corrine of Amber comments. "Or, one could always trump King Random himself." The man yawns loudly. "Oi, you two. Seen anyone named Finndo?" Prince Julian of Amber says, "Ahh, yes, an excellent idea. " Prince Julian of Amber pulls out his trump deck. Juri of Avalon says, "Yes. He had three arms and my brother decapitated him." The man asks Julian, "And they have nothing to do with the escape, eh?" Corrine of Amber says, "Admittedly it's abrupt and direct, but..." She shrugs, and shakes her head. "I have heard mention of men named Finndo via my companion here, but before then not a word or sight of such." He glances at Rose. Rose nods. Corrine of Amber glances at the two glances. Juri of Avalon finishes applying her nail polish, puts the bottle away, takes out a hairbrush, and begins brushing her hair out. Looking more bored. Julian says, "I will see what King Random has to say about this." Prince Julian of Amber takes the trump card and zones out. Finally, she looks over at the two. "Princess Juri of Avalon. You would be? Corrine of Amber, sadly, forgot to bring her beauty supplies with her. Fortunately, she did bring her equipment, and is still wearing it. Juri of Avalon has to stay gorgeous somehow. Have to find the time to her curling iron later. Prince Julian of Amber says to the card, "Did you give Rose and Ishmael a warrant for this investigation, Random?" The man says, "Call me Ishmael." Juri of Avalon says, "Ishmael." Rose begins twining a lock of her hair nervously around one finger. Corrine of Amber nods to Ishmael, and says nothing. You page, ""I remember a man named Ishmael" Why Yesssssss, Corrine's remembering Utena's story...." to Akemi. Prince Julian of Amber nods and looks pleased, "I was right, then." Ishmael takes out a lighter and twiddles absently with it. Akemi pages, "Something about him being King of Chaos, yes :)" to you. Prince Julian of Amber frowns intensely. "They seem to be from Corwin's universe." You page, "Hoooiiikk. Must've gotten that in the period between Annadil's appearance and everybody heading back." to Akemi. In a page-pose to you, Akemi nods Prince Julian of Amber nods, then frowns more. "But they faked a warrant." Juri of Avalon finishes brushing her hair, puts the hairbrush away, and stands there, waiting. Prince Julian of Amber snorts, then sighs. "As you command, but I am not pleased by this." Ishmael adopts an insufferably pleased expression. Juri of Avalon wonders if Ishmael ever stole Julian's sandwich. Corrine of Amber just continues to stand there, keeping her own counsel. Ishmael starts to roll a cigarette from the fake warrant. Prince Julian of Amber listens, cocks his head, then nods. "I'll send them." He waves his hand in front of the card and puts it away. "Well, it seems that his highness chooses to confirm the warrant, though perhaps he is simply waiting to punish you for forging warrants once you come into his presence. Ladies, I must regretfully hand you over to these two. If you are fortunate, you will not be strapped to the underside of a mule which is on fire and falling off a cliff by this time tomorrow, but I doubt it." He turns to Ishmael. "The king wants you to bring them to him as soon as possible." Corrine of Amber nods. "Very well, then." Ishmael says, "Hey, yeah? Great." "It has been a pleasure, Prince Julian. I shall try to avoid any mule-strapping," Juri says, deadpan. "Thank you for your assistance." She turns to Ishmael and Rose. "Shall we go?" Rose says, "The mule-strapping was an accident, I tell you." Corrine of Amber says, "Indeed. And it has been a pleasure to meet you as well, Prince Julian. This truly is a marvelous forest that you watch over." She smiles slightly, the kind of smile that indicates honest appreciation of the place. Almost professional courtesy. Prince Julian of Amber says, "You seem to have quite an understanding of animals, Lady Corrine. A pleasure to meet you." Corrine of Amber nods her head in acknowledgement. "Indeed." Ishmael says, "Welp, we're off! This way, then...." Corrine of Amber . o O (Yeah, he's made me... but hey, such is life.) Juri of Avalon follows. Corrine of Amber follows Juri. Rose bounces along, and as you head out the door says to Ishmael, "I told you we wouldn't need the grenades." Ishmael says, "Just being prudent. Julian could have gotten frisky." Corrine of Amber quirks an eyebrow at Rose's comment, but says nothing. Ishmael asks, "So. What do you two know about the present emergency?" Rose shakes her head. "Oh, Uncle Julian is an old softie if you just know how to approach him right." Juri of Avalon says, "Your emergency? Absolutely nothing. We only recently arrived in this version of Amber." Juri of Avalon says, "Please take us to King Random, as you were instructed." Ishmael asks, "Don't worry, you can trust me. I'm a Lord of Chaos. Surely you know something...?" Corrine of Amber does not stiffen. Everything's calm, everything's cool.... Rose says, "When mysterious people appear out of nowhere right after a prison break, there's always a connection. It's a law of nature." Juri of Avalon says, "I know you're apparently looking for a Finndo, but it's not my Finndo, because my Finndo had three arms and was decapitated by my brother." Ishmael shrugs. "Right. Rose, summon... oh... right. Damn." He looks at a loss. "One sec, let me get us some horses." Rose says, "Oh, anyone can have three arms if they put their mind to it." Juri of Avalon shrugs and indicates Arisugawa. "I do not require a mount, though the Princess Corrine would undoubtedly appreciate one." Ishmael pulls off his fedora, thinks for a second, and then turns it upside down and taps it. Three surprised-looking horses fall out. "There you go." Rose mounts up. Corrine of Amber says, "Thank you." Juri of Avalon gets onto Arisugawa. Unseen by you, Julian goes to his private chambers and starts poking needles into a voodoo doll of Ishmael :) Corrine of Amber smiles slightly, and picks a good chestnut-colored horse, or whichever one isn't picked. Juri of Avalon says, "Poor Julian." Corrine of Amber mounts up, and moves her horse to keep pace with Juri. Ishmael mounts up and rides off with unseeming haste. Juri of Avalon follows Ishmael. Corrine of Amber follows, and keeps her eyes on landmarks to make SURE they're headed in an Amber-City direction. Ishmael says, "I hope his cabin is fireproof. That cigarette butt landed a bit too near the woodpile." Corrine of Amber closes her eyes, and rubs at them. Ishmael asks, "So, where are you two from?" Juri of Avalon says, "Avalon." Corrine of Amber says, "Amber." Rose says, "Oh, I'm sure the rain will put out any fires." She looks thoughtful. "Oh wait, I think I forgot to recover my grenades." Corrine of Amber comments, drly. "I'm sure he'll put them to good use." Ishmael asks, "Isn't that the place Corwin's always singing depressing ballads about?" Juri of Avalon sighs, and puts Rose and Ishmael into the 'pointlessly making the lives of their Elders miserable' pile with Horatio. Rose looks Corrine up and down. "Amber? I haven't seen you around. Although it is a rather large place." Corrine of Amber says, "I believe, from what I have heard, that it is a different place from yours... both Avalon and Amber." Juri of Avalon says, "Possibly. I understand it is the universe created by his drawing of the second Pattern." Rose says, "Oh one of the shadows of Amber like that one Osric rules." A series of echoing explosions echoes behind you. Rose says, "Or the one where the Brady Bunch is the royal family." Ishmael ehehs and spurs his horse a bit faster. Juri of Avalon says, "At the moment, the Princess Corrine and myself are attempting to establish just why we were brought from our homes to yours." Corrine of Amber glances back at the explosions. "...I thought shadow-firearms couldn't work in Amber... guess I'm wrong for here...." Rose winces. "Well, at least that giant flaming chihuahua isn't likely to be attracted by the explosions." Ishmael says, "Oh, that's easy." Juri of Avalon says, "As we appear not only to have crossed Shadow, but also universes." Corrine of Amber nods, and looks curious at Ishmael. Ishmael says, "It's all the fault of them." Rose says, "Oh, Mommy's grenades use magic to explode in places like this." Corrine of Amber says, "That would make sense, then." She smiles slightly. "Who's your mother?" Ishmael says, "What remains to be seen is how you fit into their sinister plan." Rose smiles brightly. "Princess Flora is my mother." Rose looks at Juri. "You look kind of like Theresa." Juri of Avalon says, "I do hope you're mistaken. I had quite enough of being an unwitting part of sinister plans with Brand and Tomas." Juri of Avalon shrugs. "The name is not familiar." Corrine of Amber nods. "It sounds as if she's a very capable, and forward-thinking woman." She smiles, and then purses her lips at Ishmael. "Sinister plans." She sighs. "I rather dislike sinister plans." Rose says, "She" Rose says, "She's Corwin's daughter." Ishmael says, "For example, you could have been brought here in an attempt to... hrm... find crossdimensional experts to repair that Fire Pattern of theirs. OR maybe to crack Brand out of the abyss again." Ishmael says, "We get a lot of that." Rose says, "And with Fido missing, we can't just knock him back in." Juri of Avalon says, "Unsurprising; all my family are Corwin's kin, in a way." Corrine of Amber does not outwardly react to the mention of a Fire Pattern. Corrine of Amber asks, "Who's Fido?" Ishmael asks, "Yeah. All Corwin's kin, you say? Or is it a Flawed Corwin?" Juri of Avalon _frowns_. "Brand? Brand died on my blades in the Battle of the Fount... at least, the Brand I knew did." Rose says, "He's our pet Squid." Corrine of Amber says, "A.... squid." Rose says, "Well, he's a rather large squid." Ishmael says, "Fido's a good boy." Corrine of Amber looks at Rose. "How.... Large, would you say?" Rose nods. "I just hope the Finndos didn't steal him." "I am frankly so utterly confused by the metaphysics at this point that I don't even know," Juri laments. Ishmael says, "Once we got him to stop devoring fire patterns, anyway." Rose says, "Oh, he was just hungry for the only food he knew." Juri of Avalon says, "Which is why I want very badly to speak to King Random, to establish if this Amber is the same Amber that the Random I knew of ruled." Corrine of Amber frowns, her hands tightening on the horse's reins. She says, quietly. "Hopefully, you can keep it that way." Ishmael scowls. "Damn those MacFinndos! If they've hurt my favorite engine of mass destruction, I'll... I'll I'll do what I'm going to do anyway, only more so." Rose asks, "Did the Random you know have a son named Martin?" Rose asks, "Married to a Queen named Vialle?" Ishmael asks, "Having an affair with a woman named Gretta?" Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: Juri answers based upon what knowledge she has of 'her' Amber." Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: I'm not sure whether she'd know about Vialle or Martin." Rose asks, "The king is having an AFFAIR?" Rose boggles. Corrine of Amber listens very closely to the conversation about said big squids and their eating habits. "This squid... how did you manage to control it?" Ishmael says, "No, but it sounded good." Rose whacks Ishmael with a scarf. Ishmael says, "We ate its brain. Nicely, though." Rose says, "We disguised ourselves as white blood cells, got inside it, and took over its brain." Corrine of Amber says, "Ah.... hah." Corrine of Amber blinks several times at this. Corrine of Amber . o O (Well, that's an option I hadn't considered, I suppose. A few problems in its execution in my case, however.) Rose says, "Fido isn't very smart." Ishmael says, "It's a Chaos thing." Corrine of Amber nods, slowly. Juri of Avalon says, "Yes to both; the Random I know of has a Queen called Vialle, and his son is Martin." Rose says, "His brain's larger than Amber City." Corrine of Amber asks, "Easy to distract, I suppose?" Rose says, "But not very efficient." Rose says, "Sounds like our Random." Ishmael says, "Easy to distract? Not really." Corrine of Amber . o O (Here, have an Annadil-Snack! MMmm mmm gooo--oh foo.) Ishmael says, "Single-minded lil' bugger." Corrine of Amber says, "Eating Fire Patterns." Ishmael says, "The breakfast of squid champions." Corrine of Amber says, "Ah." Corrine of Amber asks, "When was the last time it ate one?" Juri looks to Rose. "I know of most of the royal family of 'my' Amber. I have never heard of you or Theresa. So, I suspect that your Amber, while quite close to the one I know, is not the same one. Ishmael says, "We did have him under control, but then the MacFinndo Gang broke jail and stole him." Juri of Avalon counts. "That makes... three Ambers, one Avalon. Each, presumably, with their own Pattern and own variations." Ishmael says, "Well, it ate Ember." You page, "Poor Corrine. Strangling Ishmael is not a good thing right now...." to Akemi. Rose gets out some yarn and starts knitting a scarf as you ride along. "Four if you count Osric's. We never did find out if that one was real or just a Flawed one." Juri of Avalon just sighs. "My head hurts. It was so much easier when there was just Avalon, the Courts, and _one_ version of Infinite Shadow." Ishmael says, "Fah, we blew it up, moot point." Rose says, "The good Osric, not the evil one." Juri of Avalon says, "Although if Shadow is Infinite, then presumably... my head hurts." A pillar of smoke climbs into the sky behind you. Rose says, "I've found that infinite shadow contains infinite headaches if you worry too much about it." Corrine of Amber sucks in a breath, her skin paling a bit at the knuckles as she holds the reins. She manages to calm herself with some effort. "Certainly, this Ember must have been different." She then considers. "Could you repeat the attempt to gain control, perhaps?" Juri of Avalon says, "I want a place to heat my curling iron. And a bath." Rose says, "We have to find Fido first." Rose says, "You have to control Fido from the inside. But he isn't answering trump calls." Ishmael says, "Yeah. The MacFinndos have taken him Serpent knows where, I just know it." Juri of Avalon says, "How easy is it to hide a squid with a brain bigger than Amber City?" Ishmael says, "Well, he..." Rose says, "Infinite shadow = infinite hiding places" Ishmael says, "Er..." Juri of Avalon shrugs, and giggles, a little hysterically. "Why don't you go ask the Serpent, then?" Corrine of Amber comments. "I want a shower, a bath, a good hearty meal, and a clean bed. And as for the multiple Ambers and Shadows and Chaos and Whatnot... I suppose taking each at their own merits is the way to go to prevent it." Rose says, "And he's a lot bigger on the inside than on the outside." Corrine of Amber says, "I also want to get home, but that's a given." Rose says, "Sort of like my sewing basket, except it doesn't roam around eating shadows." Corrine of Amber looks over with concern at Juri, and offers a hand. Rose says, "Well, if we hurry, we can make it to Amber city in about a day of riding without stopping." Lightning and thunder crackle directly above you. Corrine of Amber looks up, nonplussed. Ishmael says, "Asking the Serpent is probably not a good idea. But I have another Great Beast of Power rooming with me, if you really want to ask questions." Juri of Avalon gestures. "But, I mean, what's the point of it all? What's the point of anything? I let Brand out of the Abyss, then killed him, but now it turns out that there's multiple Brands or something, so maybe the Brand I killed was just some Shadow of the real Brand and maybe _I'm_ just a Shadow of the real Juri and... my head hurts. I wish Meredith or Tess were here. _They'd_ have a better handle on this than I do." Ishmael puts up an umbrella. Juri of Avalon says, "OOC: SD-Venir Oracle? :)" Ishmael says, "That's very deep. I've found the point of it all to be very simple, though." Corrine of Amber asks, "Hm?" Rose begins pulling branches off trees and stuffing them into her sewing kit. Juri of Avalon rides through the rain with her head bowed, looking perplexed and confused and unhappy. Ishmael says, "I'm here, alive, and riding away laughing having kicked my foes in the head. Any other Ishmaels can bloody well look out for themselves." Rose then shakes her sewing bag, and pulls out umbrellas for herself, Juri, and Corrine Ishmael says, "'snot the greatest of philosophies, but it does for me." Corrine of Amber quirks a smile. "He has a point there, I suppose." She accepts the umbrella from Rose with a thank you. Rose says, "As long as there aren't any extra Othos, I'll be happy." Juri of Avalon thinks on the matter for a moment, then shrugs. "That is true enough." She looks marginally happier. Ishmael shudders. ============================== ============================== Rose says, "OOC And we need to cut here; it's late." Juri of Avalon says, "Okeydokey." Mange falls asleep. Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "nods, having stayed an hour later than expected. ^_-;" Corrine of Amber OOCly says, "Anyway... night. *wave*"
