Moriya stares at Prof. GM says, "Hehe :)" Beowulf says, "Hey, it was John's quote -- don't look at me! ^_-" Jacqueline of Amber says, "nice, sweet and gooey. rrrrowr." Beowulf says, "Bey's response: 'Beowulf does *not* go there, thank you very much. o.o'" GM says, "You wanna run your date with Lily now, Travis? I want to run Shiz and Naus, but Naus hasn't shown up yet and Drew's about to get off work and go hom." Beowulf says, "Works for me." Moriya says, "Moriya and Nausicaa, John. :)" Lily says, "Oh, right. Shiz 2 and Nausicaa...:)" Motoko says, "No, Shizumaru would never have had wild hot sex with Motoko like Moriya did." Motoko says, "Wait, no, that didn't actually happen." Moriya OOCly says, "..." Motoko says, "...yet." Lily says, "Gotta control that fantasy life, Motoko :)" "But.... but we're cousins..." "Second cousins. Shut up and lick." Beowulf OOCly says, "I thought Moriya was supposed to hold people who insinuated that at swordpoint? ^_^" Motoko says, "Motoko doesn't have a fantasy life. It gets in the way of things too much. :)" Lily asks, "OOC You ready, Prof?" Beowulf says, "Ayup." =========================== =========================== The time comes, and you suddenly realize you're not sure exactly where Lily is expecting to meet you for the trip to Talislanta. Beowulf blinks.. OOC is he still in the Library? Lily says, "OOC Yes, you're still in the library." Beowulf asks Travis if he thinks Lily and Yumi might still be up by their quarters. "It's only polite to drop by her place, instead of making her come to me." Travis says, "Yes, I think she's up in her rooms with her mother." Beowulf nods. "Very well... if you don't mind, I'll go up and wait for her there." He says, "Go right ahead. I'm off to dinner myself now that I've gotten Snickers fed so she doesn't snack on the eighth century collection again." He looks meaningfully at Snickers, who acts innocent. Beowulf waggles his finger at Snickers. "You are going to behave, aren't you?" He grins. "I'm always good," Snickers says. Beowulf raises an eyebrow. "Even when you're chasing Tama-chan?" He grins again and scratches her between the ears. "Even then," Snickers says, purring. Beowulf chuckles. "So you say." He gives her one last scritch and heads up to Travis' quarters. You head upstairs to Lily's quarters. Beowulf walks up a bit nervously, wondering just what he's let himself in for tonight. You can hear her and her mother discussing the merits of various items of clothing as you come down the hallway. Yumi keeps saying something about 'Rain' Beowulf blinks, and moves back down the hallway so that he doesn't overhear. The conversation eventually dies down. Beowulf goes back up and knocks on the door. "Lady Yumi? Lily?" Lady Yumi comes to the door. "Ahh, good evening, Beowulf." She looks you up and down. "I suggest you take a...then again, I suppose you already have one in that bag of yours. It tends to rain quite a bit in Talislanta." Beowulf smiles slightly. "So I've heard." He pauses. "Is Lily ready yet, or should I come back in a few minutes?" Lady Yumi looks amused. "As ready as she'll ever be." She turns back towards the room. "Unless you'd like to try out everything else?" Beowulf reflects that it's a pity he hasn't talked to Shizumaru about umbrellas at some point; he undoubtedly has a far vaster range of knowledge. Lily comes to the door. To your surprise, she's wearing a long blue hooded cloak which basically hides whatever she's wearing under it. Pretty much, it hides everything but her face. She sticks out her tongue at her mother, then says, "I'm ready to go." Nausicaa says, "OOC j0." Lily says, "OOC Howdy. When Drew returns, I can run you and him, TR, as he's gone out to Rebma where you are." Beowulf blinks at Lily, reflecting that it's undoubtedly the most-covered he's ever seen her, and bows. "Shall we?" He gestures out into the hallway. Lily says, "OOC Assuming you want interaction with other PCs :)" Nausicaa says, "OOC Okay. No prob." She nods and smiles. "We shall." On closer examination, it seems to be basically a 'rain-robe' with hood, treated to make water slide off. She lifts one arm, holding a trump between two beringed fingers. She holds out her other hand to you. Beowulf grins at the robe. "Wise lady. Though I've never worried too much about getting wet, except the spectacles; one of these days, I'd like to come up with some lenses slick enough for water to simply slide off." He takes her hand. She says, "Mother seems to think I'm going to wash away in the rain or something." She sighs, then concentrates on the trump. The world goes rainbow-colored. Beowulf waits to arrive, then quickly looks around to check their surroundings. You stand on a wide street. The sky above is navy blue with shining stars, but no moon. The street stretches off to left and right, curving in ways which make your brain twist with vertigo if you look too far. Among other things, you can see a ribbon of street bisecting the sky high above you. No sign of rain, yet. Nausicaa says, "OOC idling for lunch" Beowulf looks up and smiles. "Ah... odd, but a curiously refreshing vista." People walk along the sidewalks; there are people everywhere. Beowulf offers Lily his arm. Lily takes your arm, smiling. Beowulf says, "Did you make a reservation? If not, I'd almost like to walk along for a little while; it's been a bit since I've last come here." She looks embarrassed. "I knew I forgot something...sure, a walk would be good." Beowulf says, "Oh? Well, we do have a little time to spare, so it's no inconvenience to me." He smiles reassuringly at her. Beowulf is actually feeling much calmer around her, even this close to her, than usual; possibly because of her more modest attire. You head down the street. Many of the buildings are mundane, though beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture crossed with some modern sensibilities like not throwing garbage in the street. But some twist and bend in impossible ways, and one brewery looks much like a Klein bottle. Beowulf keeps an eye out as they walk for what's changed since the last time he's been there. A lot is the same, although there's always some new buildings. Beowulf smiles and relaxes a bit further. "It's delightful to know that places like this exist," he says to Lily. She says, "Mother knows all sorts of odd places around shadow. I visited one which was a gigantic die, once." She shakes her head. "A large hand rolled it in mid-visit." Beowulf blinks. "...oh. Anyone hurt?" She says, "Well, the natives were used to it. But Mutsune panicked and ran off and hid, and we had to spend three days trying to find her." She shakes her head. "She was only nine." Beowulf asks, "Only nine... still, the thought of Mitsune panicking about *anything*?" He shakes his head, boggled a bit. "I take it she's still determined to go tomb raiding?" She nods. "She's trying to talk Naru into skipping out of studying and going along too." She smiles a bit. "She probably will. Naru always intends to say no, but somehow Mitsune can always wiggle her into things." Beowulf covers his eyes. "Oh, no..." He sighs. "At least Naru's a little more sensible than Mitsune. Usually." He looks heavenward. "Two of them to ride herd on... although in Mitsune's case, it's going to be herding foxes instead of cats. I'm not sure which is worse." Beowulf says, "However, I suspect there's not much I can do about it." He grins ruefully. Beowulf looks over at Lily for her reaction. She says, "Oh, Naru can take care of herself about as well as either of us can. She's not so crazy as Mitsune. Fortunately." She pauses at a shop showing various hypergeometrical statuettes. "Can we stop here? I'd like to get Dad a little souvenir. He likes these weird things." Beowulf asks, "Oh, certainly." He looks at the shop himself... anything look interesting? You head into the shop. It's full of all sorts of oddities. Many of the items are glass spheres in which impossible objects and landscapes out of MC escher float. There's several klein bottles and mobius strips made of beautiful crystal and metal as well. One interesting thing catches your eye; it's a depiction of the Eye of Harmony floating inside a small crystal cube. Beowulf looks at the cube. "My. I hadn't expected to see this here." He bends in for a closer look with the spectacles. ==================== ==================== Nausicaa says, "OOC I have to go, unfortunately. I'm meeting my gf at the university." Nausicaa oocly waves out. Beowulf OOCly says, "Seeya, TR." TimeRunner has disconnected. Lily says, "OOC Doh." Moriya OOCly blinks. Okay, no gaming for us tonight, then. Probably best, as I'm feeling a little wiped out already anyway. Jacqueline of Amber OOCly snaps her fingers Lily says, "OOC Well, you're a day ahead of half the PCs anyway, so it's not as bad as it could be." Beowulf OOCly says, "Gomen... should have offered to pause when TR showed up." Lily says, "OOC well, he immediately went to eat." Lily says, "OOC Before I could try to get him started, then finishes and took off anyway." Jacqueline of Amber says, "OOCly not really, travs. you're some day sbehind, need to get you up " Lian . o O ( OOC Ah well. Better luck next time. :) ) Beowulf OOCly grins ruefully at Rod. "Well, yes." =================== =================== Lily hems and haws over several klein bottles. Beowulf covers his eyes and carefully reaches out a finger to point at the bottles. "Eeeny, meeny, miny, moe..." Lily finally settles on a silver one with Dwarven Hypergeometical Notations inscribed across it. Beowulf says, "Very nice. :)" Beowulf picks up the Eye of Harmony figurine for himself. Beowulf goes up to the counter to pay. "Can I get that for you, Lily?" She smiles. "Ever the gentleman. I certainly won't stop you." She winks. Beowulf smiles and bows in response, then pays for the two figurines. Beowulf asks, "Can I carry this for you?" "Certainly, Beowulf," she says. "I don't have a purse handy, anyway." Beowulf smiles and puts both items in the bag, which for some reason is now looking like a leather briefcase. You head back out into the street. There are hints of rain in the sky, and now music plays from down the street. There's a concert hall up ahead, busy playing baroque music. The sign indicates 'The music of Francesco Zappa'. Beowulf smiles at the music. Do the musicians sound very good? The music is very well done. The music is a formal piece for introductions at court. Beowulf checks the concert schedule. "We may have to come back here for a concert, one of these days... Or, perhaps, if we have time now?" Beowulf says, "OOC How long does this concert have to run/" The concert started about half an hour ago and has an hour and a half to go. She checks the sign, then says, "Well, I'm in no rush. Do you have to be anywhere?" Beowulf asks, "I should be meeting up with Kanna around 8 or 9... but that leaves us five hours to spend here, yes?" Beowulf asks, "OOC How long have we been here so far?" Lily says, "OOC Maybe 30 minutes or so." Beowulf asks, "OOC And how long does he remember his last meal at the steak house lasting?" Lily says, "OOC About 1.5 hours or so." Beowulf says, "The timing would be a little tight, but we could probably make it. If you like," he adds, looking at Lily to see how enthusiastic she actually is. Beowulf says, "Or perhaps we should just save it for a time when we won't have to worry about timing." He smiles at her. She looks thoughtful. "Let's give it a try. Hopefully, this is a better batch of music than the 'Requiem per Joe's Garage". You have impression she's willing to give it a shot, though not howlingly enthusiastic. Beowulf asks, "Or is there something else you'd rather do?" She glances over at you, then looks impish. "Have you ever been swimming in the Inverted Lake?" Beowulf says, "Ahhh... no, I can't say that I have." For some reason, he looks a bit nervous at her impish look. Beowulf smiles anyway. "I take it you'd like to go swimming?" She nods. "I haven't been in years, but it's quite fun. If you can handle the angles, anyway." Beowulf considers 'angles' for a moment, then smiles. "As you wish, dear lady." She looks around, scratches her head, then says, "Now I just have to remember where it is." She asks around, and gets directions. You quickly hop a hypercube over to the right part of the shadow. You're now up on part of the loop above where you were. There's a large oval building, labelled 'The Inverted Lake', and a bored looking ticket seller at the door. Beowulf smiles at the ticket seller. "Surely the night isn't *that* dull, is it?" "We don't get much business during the night shift." Beowulf nods. "Ah, I suppose not. Is anyone in there now?" The man shakes his head. "There was a family in there, but they left about ten minutes ago." Beowulf says, "Ah. Well, shall we?" He buys tickets. You head into the place. There are men's and women's changing rooms. Lily waves you farewell and heads over to the women's side. Beowulf heads over to the men's side, pulls a pair of swimming trunks and a towel out of the bag, changes, and puts his street clothes into the bag. Beowulf then heads out into the swimming area. The Inverted Lake is huge; obviously this is one of Talislanta's many 'larger on the inside than the outside' buildings. It's got a literal lake, about a mile across in it, surrounded by a beach and a thin strip of forest. The lake itself bends around in various moderately impossible ways, so that you can in some places, dive up or down and hit water either way. The light seems to be magically ambient. You'd hate to have a fight here, 'cause there are a million places to hide. There's a small dock; you can take some boats out onto the lake. Beowulf looks for a nice spot on the beach, pulls a couple of deck chairs out of the bag, then sits down to wait for Lily. A few minutes later, Lily comes out, carrying her cloak folded over one shoulder. She's wearing a blue one piece with a golden mobius strip design across the upper chest. She folds up the cloak and puts it next to the empty deck chair, then says, "Come on, Beowulf, water is for swimming." She grins, then turns and runs towards the nearby diving board, which extends quite a ways out over the lake. Beowulf follows and dives in after her. The water is cool and soothing. Fish scatter as you move through the water; it looks like it really IS a lake, right down to having a real ecosystem. Lily swims quite expertly, like she was born to the water, heading out deeper. Beowulf follows Lily. Beowulf says, "OOC Even if he suspects that he's not nearly as graceful as her. :)" As she does a lazy backstroke, she asks, "Have you ever been to the Water Moon, Beowulf?" Beowulf asks, "Which one?" Beowulf says, "I didn't have a chance to visit any of the 26 that vanished when Rebma sank, of course..." He looks sad for a moment. "Belegaer. It's a beautiful water world inhabited by elves and nymphs and parachuting narwhales." Beowulf says, "Parachuting... narwhales." He looks boggled for a moment. "No, I think I would have remembered that." She continues, "The Narwhales are very stupid, but cute. And the Nymphs and Elves are a lot of fun. Although I suppose you'd have problems with the nudity taboos." Beowulf looks at Lily, then blushes slightly. "Though with nymphs, I suspect you would have fitted right in." Beowulf says, "Nudity taboos?" He blinks slowly, and blushes a little deeper. She grins. "They think wearing clothing is perverted." Beowulf does not say anything. He very carefully does not say anything. He suspects the water is growing a little warmer around him, though. She points to her outfit. "This would be risque to them. Full court garb would be the same to them as a stripper's outfit." Lily says, "To us." Beowulf says, "...right." She reaches over and 'beeps' your nose, then swims on, laughing. "I wish you hadn't had to miss the Greening festival, Beowulf. Your mother needed a dance partner, and so did I." Lily says, "You'd better not miss Marches. The King's going to give Prince Ota his twenty years' baton. I've been planning it for months." Lily is the Mistress of the Revels, after all. Beowulf says, "Well, Mother did want me to pick up some silk for a couple of Marches dresses for her. I doubt I'll be able to avoid it." He smiles. Beowulf asks, "As long as I'm going to be down there, is there anything I can pick up in Siam for you?" She says, "I suppose it would be too much to ask you to buy one of those temples." Beowulf says, "Well, I doubt they'd be very eager to sell." He grins. "And I suspect it'd be a bit hard to carry one with me, even in the bag. :)" She says, "Not a..." She shakes her head. "We have a reception for the Siamese ambassador in about a month, and I just haven't got a clue what to do. It's his birthday, and I mean...It's hard to find Siamese Temple Dancers here in Amber and all." Beowulf says, "Ah. Hm. Let me think about it for a bit, and see what I can do." She looks around. "Let's see...is this the spot?" She then dives down out of sight. Beowulf blinks and looks around for her. And then, up above you, you hear Lily says, "Look up, Beowulf." She waves at you from up in the sky in one of the parts of the lake which twists around overhead. "There's a tunnel right by you. See if you can find it!" Beowulf grins, and splashes some water up towards her to see how it falls. Then he starts looking for the tunnel. The water mostly falls back to you, but you can see if it gets high enough, gravity reverses and it will fall to her. A quick search finds the tunnel. It's only about ten feet long and doesn't curve at all, but suddely gravity shifts and you pop up into the water. You can see Lily's feet dangling down into the water as she treads water, up above you. Beowulf grins impishly and starts tickling Lily's feet. She shakes as she laughs from the tickling, then dives down and starts grappling with you underwater, trying to tickle you back. Beowulf tries to keep tickling her while he strives to keep her hands away from him. She soon finds herself outmatched...until she turns into a fish and slips through your hands to tickle your belly with her fishnose. :) Beowulf acks and laughs, then pops to the surface to breathe. Beowulf says, "Well, dear lady?" he calls out softly. "I concede," he says, and grins. She surfaces again, returned to human form. She looks thoughtful. "Have you ever tried learning to shapeshift, Beowulf?" Beowulf blinks. "No, I haven't. Never seemed to have the time, and not sure if I'd have the talent." She says, "It's very useful. I was just trying to imagine what your avatar form would be...do you prefer dogs or cats?" Beowulf says, "Oh, cats, definitely." She smiles. "Me too." It is at this moment that you notice the stuff you left by your deck chair is gone. Beowulf says, "...oh, dear." Lily asks, "What's wrong?" Beowulf says, "It seems my things are no longer by the deck chair." Lily's eyes widen. "And my cloak's gone too." She slaps her forehead. "There goes my spell rack and everything." She continues, "AND my trumps. And all..." Beowulf frowns. "I am not amused." He starts swimming back to the beach, waving at Lily to follow. She swims along after you, back to the deck chair area. There are footprints in the sand coming out of the men's room and over to the deck chair. The footprints, however, don't lead away. Beowulf begins looking for a spot where the water would reflect the area where the deck chairs are. You find a part of the lake which warps that way. Lily sighs, sits down in a deck chair, and starts chanting. Beowulf blinks and waits for Lily to finish what she's doing. Pretty soon, a new cloak appears on the sand, along with a blue dress. Beowulf says, "Ah. Was wondering... but never mind." She says, "Much as like this bathing suit, I think the restaurant might object." Lily asks, "Hmm, what, Beowulf?" Beowulf says, "Yes. I was thinking on seeing who might have taken them." Beowulf uses the ring to cast the Mirror of Temporal Scrying on the lake section that reflects the deck chair area. Beowulf says, "I would prefer to get my bag back, as I doubt the restaurant would look favorably on someone attending in swimming trunks." He grins briefly. "And I'd hate to lose the figurine you bought for your father." You scan back through time. A few minutes ago, a street urchin type crept out and grabbed the bag and Lily's stuff. When he grabbed her stuff, her trumps fell out. He picked them up, and looked at one of them, then turned rainbow colored with a panicked look on his face, and vanished. Beowulf asks, "OOC Can I see well enough to tell which trump it was?" Beowulf looks over at Lily. "Oh, dear." The angle isn't very good, but it looks somewhat like some sort of square planet floating in space. Beowulf tells this to Lily. Lily frowns. "Not good." Beowulf looks inquiringly at Lily. She sighs. "Bizarro World. I buy interesting trinkets there for parties sometimes. But it's a crazy place to visit, and easy for outsiders to get in trouble." Beowulf says, "Hm. Drat... that kid shouldn't have been stealing, but I don't want to see him get into trouble *that* bad." Beowulf looks up at Lily. "How badly did you need your things that he took?" She says, "I can get by without them for now, as I've conjured replacement clothing." Beowulf nods and mutters. Drat, drat, drat. She continues, "But those trumps would be annoying to replace, as I'd have to spend weeks hauling Mutsumi all over shadow to make more." Beowulf hmmms. "I have an idea; how much trump skill do you have?" Beowulf asks, "Or, actually... how good are you at teleporting? And do you have a spell to read an image from my mind, and could you teleport to it?" She says, "I'm afraid I never really learned anything about trumps except how to make them. Mutsumi-chan...Yes, I could do that," she says. "Read the image and do a spell. IT would take a while, though, because I lost my racked spells, and cross-shadow teleports take quite a while." Beowulf asks, "How long?" Lily says, "OOC Gm checks" Lily asks, "About how far away is it through Shadow?" Beowulf says, "It's not too far away, if it's at Bizarro World." She says, "Ahh, that'll help. About two hours." Beowulf nods. "OOC We've been here about an hour and a half, right?" Lily says, "OOC Yep." Beowulf nods. "All right... I suggest we do that. I'd hate to miss dinner with you, and we might this way, but it's probably more important to get your trumps back." Beowulf says, "OOC And hope that kid hasn't gotten too badly hurt in the meantime, or lost her trumps, or anything like that." Beowulf says, "So, the plan is... you read my mind for the image, we teleport there, get out, and hopefully recover your things and rescue the kid." She nods. "Good idea." She holds out a hand to you. "Okay, concentrate on it." Beowulf takes her hand and concentrates. You then spend two hours while she carefully weaves the spell. She finally finishes her casting. I assume you conjure some clothing while waiting? Beowulf says, "Yes." Okay, she finishes the spell and then 'Blink', the world turns black and fuzzy, and then you're in the bag. Beowulf checks around quickly to see if there are any signs of intrusion, checks with the Stooges as well. Hey, look, there's spiders crawling up your arm... No particular signs of intrusion, except maybe the way the walls are vibrating... Lily blinks and rubs her eyes. Beowulf says, "Stay calm for a moment, Lily." The air mixture quickly changes. Beowulf says, "We're on fast-time here... just wait for it to pass." She says, "Well, that was almost very bad." She sneezes. "I'm better now." Beowulf waits until the effects pass. "I'm sorry; I should have warned you." Beowulf walks over and grabs the whip off a rack on the wall. "Is there anything you'd like to do here before we go out? Any preparations you want to make?" Beowulf asks, "Or any equipment I can make for you?" She says, "Well, the last time I encountered gas like that, I ended up in the place I was hallucinating." She coughs. "Okay, all better. I could use some time to prepare a set of spells and a proper spell rack." Beowulf blinks. "That wouldn't have been very good. o.o" Beowulf asks, "I can set the time here as fast as you like, so take all the time you need. How much do you want?" She looks thoughtful. "Probably about two days to get all the spells racked I want. Some of them are somewhat long to cast." Beowulf nods. "Do you want me to conjure you a new spell rack, then?" She sighs. "I'm sorry. Sorcery is very nice, but if you lose your rack...yes, I'd appreciate that." Beowulf sets the time so that several days will pass in two seconds, asks Lily for her preference in rack items, then makes it for her. She gets you to make a silver pendant with a ruby-eyed cat. Beowulf patpats. "No problem; every Power has its disadvantages." He gives her a quick comforting hug. Beowulf smiles at the pendant, then hands it to her. She leans against you. "Well, at least this gives us plenty of time to talk about everything." Beowulf blinks. "Everything?" Lily says, "Percy's prophecy, what you've been up to, where you got an army of stooges." She smiles. Beowulf grins. "Ah. Well, the stooges... sort of came with the territory." He grins. "One of these days, I'd like to show you around here. There really are some most interesting things here... I found this place one day when I was out walking Shadow." Beowulf stops and watches for a moment, making sure he's not interrupting her spellcasting. She says, "Go on. I'm pretty experienced at this." Her hands continue to dart and weave about the pendant. Beowulf asks, "I admit... in the time we spent wandering Talislanta, I didn't see anything that seemed to make it fit the prophecy. Did you?" She says, "Not really. But still..." She frowns. "Perhaps if we'd seen a storm, we would have noticed something." Beowulf nods. "We'll just have to go back again soon. I still owe you dinner, don't I?" He smiles. She says, "Although it's also possible that something will only manifest for Percy." She stops and grins at you. "Why yes, you do. Anywhere nice to eat around here?" Beowulf mutters a few annoyed curses at the troubles the urchin caused. "I'm going to have to see if I can make the bag a 'waterproof belt pouch' form, so I can wear it when swimming next time and this won't happen again." He grins ruefully. Beowulf says, "As it happens, I know a place not *too* far from here..." He gets up and offers her his hand. She smiles and takes it. ============================ ============================ Lily says, "OOC Hmm, it's 2 AM. We'd best stop so you don't die at work tomorrow :)" Beowulf says, "OOC Ack. I suppose so. " Beowulf says, "OOC As once again life proves to be a bit complicated around Beowulf. :)" Lily says, "OOC Heh :)" Lily says, "OOC We can continue tomorrow." Beowulf nods. "And it'll give me a bit of time to refresh my memory on Rick's Cafe. :)" Beowulf asks, "Seeyou tomorrow night, probably a bit after 10?" Lily exclaims, "Righto!" Beowulf exclaims, "Later on!"
