Beowulf OOCly nods. o.o ======================================== ======================================== Quick investigation reveals there are no buildings within visual range, just endless forest. Beowulf says, "Probably time to shadowwalk, then." Beowulf says, "Unless you've got a few robots that can do quick aerial scans, Lian?" He smiles. Kanna frowns, but nods. "Yeah." She checks to make sure the rest of the group will be staying back, given their physical state and stuff, but that a coupel'll be ready for frantic trumpcalls if need be. ====== ====== John asks, "OOC Okay, what exactly do you designate as the thing you're shadow walking towards?" Beowulf says, "OOC We'd just started checking out the former construct site when you logged on." Shadow Crush@ Jaq asks, "OOCly gah, game on? " John says, "OOC I want to finish up the last bits of business from that, yes, Rod." ====== ====== Jaqueline is, as from last time, scanning from the air, occasionally with patternsight ====== ====== Beowulf asks, "OOC Hmmm... The site where Jacqui, Wakaba and Utena were being held captive, Kanna?" ====== ====== The rest of the group will wait here and rest until you need them. Kanna scratches her cheek. "I'd say the site where they were being held captive... then try for the Gaunt Man... if both've been royally toasted, we won't get anywhere, since it'd no longer exist in Shadow." Beowulf nods. "Right, then. Shall we be off?" You attempt to shadow walk to where they were held captive. IT quickly becomes apparent this isn't working. ======= ======= Chris pages, "Am I with you people? :)" to you and The_Prof. You page, "Sure! :)" to Chris and The_Prof. You page, "I'm sure you'd want to get out of range of mom for a bit. ;)" to Chris and The_Prof. ======= ======= Beowulf nods. "All right, then. Perhaps for what's left from the site where they were being held captive?" Lian says, "Try one shadow border away from the site." Kanna says, "Got it." Jaqueline follows along silently and curiously ====== ====== John asks, "OOC So you're shooting for moving to a shadow adjacent to the one they were held in?" Kanna OOCly says, "unless there's a better idea, as trying to go direct ain't happening." ====== ====== The_Prof pages, "I still bugs me how Washuu appeared... can't believe Tylor'd jewelport her. o.o" to you and Chris. You page, "I patternsighted her, she checked out, and Lian/Wasyuu interactions were good." to Chris and The_Prof. ====== ====== You try again. This time, you move along, leaving your friends behind. The jungle quickly turns dark, nasty, and creepy, with the constant feeling of movement just out of sight. Kanna says, "... Cute." Lian looks around. "Better keep your lasers handy ... or at least something you can use to swat annoying critters." Several times, various sorts of jungle monsters attack, but you all quickly mow the poor things down. Beowulf nods. "Indeed." Kanna says, "Yah." ====== ====== Beowulf asks, "OOC Who's the rolcall of who's along? Bey, kanna, Lian and Jacqui?" John says, "OOC Yep. " Kanna OOCly says, "Yah." Kanna OOCly says, "Running minimal, here, given everything." Gabrielle says, "OOC: And me by association." Gabrielle says, "OOC: though I'm tired, and thus wil be very quiet." ====== ====== Jaqueline tries to cast Elemental Blade Kanna checks the state of the environment via the Watch thingie. This takes a while, but eventually, you get one going, Jacqui. Jaqueline frets. "Weak magic." As you move along, you notice with the watches that you're moving into increasingly slower-timed shadows. Beowulf checks to see how hard it would be to normal-time the shadows. Kanna mmms. "Better than none at all. Cute, slow time." She tries that trick Uncle Touga was doing, to shove the shadows up to faster time. Jaqueline just... keeps lookout. You shove the shadows up to faster time. As you do so, you feel you're now moving away from the direction you want to go. Kanna groans. "So, we can keep -trying- to go to the border, but get slowed down; or call it a wash." She frowns a bit. Beowulf raises an eyebrow. "I... don't think we should just leave it be." He sighs. Lian hms. "Too bad we don't know where exactly that shadow is or was ..." Kanna nods, and sighs. Jaqueline frets. "We can't lose too many days." Kanna nods. "Yeah. " She frowns, and then gives Jacqui's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. ====== ====== Kanna OOCly says, "How bad was the slowing starting to be?" John says, "OOC You'd hit about the point of 2 amber hours for 1 shadow hour when you started shoving back." Beowulf asks, "OOC Did it seem to be going on a linear or geometric scale?" John says, "OOC IT seems to be a linear increase." ======= ======= Lian looks around again, then takes a pad out and starts scribling something. Beowulf tries running a quick scan with his scanning item, Analyze Local Reality. Lian finally nods and puts the pad away again. "Kanna, let's try to approach it from a different vector. I should be able to calculate the center of the temporal distortion with a bit more data." Kanna nods. "Gotcha." ======= ======= The_Prof pages, "I forget, when you shadowwalk, can you tell how close you're getting?" to you and Chris. Chris pages, "Nope." to you and The_Prof. You page, "Not until you just stop." to The_Prof. ======= ======= Jaqueline extinguishes her elemental blade and waits alongside the others. Lian grins and points in a random direction. "Okay, a few shadows that way, and then we can check again." Kanna walks within the faster gradients with the group until the environment chances a bit, in Lian's direction. "... and from here, start walking towards our desired destination again?" Lian occasionally consults a strange instrument on her left wrist, then nods. "Yup." Kanna starts walking them towards the 'border shadow' thing again. Lian continues scanning the shadows they pass through ... You move through shadow so Lian can try to triangulate. Lian finally nods. "Okay, I think I have it." Kanna says, "ooohhhkay...." Beowulf looks on expectantly. Lian says, "It's about six hour's normal travel away, but going there would be a bad idea without preparation. The shadow behaves like a kind of temporal black hole, distorting the time vectors in the surrounding shadows, slowing them down the closer you get to it." Kanna says, "... eh-heh." Beowulf says, "...interesting." Kanna says, "Not a fun place to go vacationing." Lian says, "Not really, no." Beowulf asks, "Would a Mold Shadow Reality help us get closer?" Kanna says, "What sorts of 'preparations' you thinking, as I'd rather -not- devote -that- much time in this, come back out, and find a century's gone by back home." Beowulf asks, "Another thought, as well... perhaps Kuonji set this in place around it as a kind of lock on whatever's in there? Especially if there was an Outsider gate that appeared when the construct was nuked, and wasn't closed?" Lian says, "More information would help. But if Kuonji can do -this-, he's one scary dude." Kanna says, "Noooo kidding." Jaqueline says quietly, "Well, he saved gramma an' auntie, so he can't be all that bad..." Beowulf nods. "I'd say so, yes." Kanna asks, "Would it be possible to send some sort of probe in so it could it report back without -us- having to be there?" Beowulf says, "I'd be surprised if it was like this when the Gaunt Man was working out of it, though." Kanna smiles a bit. "Yeah, he did." Kanna says, "and he helped your Aunt Kanna with some stuff, too. But he's a very complex man." Lian takes the pad out again and scribbles some more, then shakes her head. "I could send a probe in, but I don't really have the several millenia to actually get the data." ====== ====== John says, "OOC The problem with a probe is that it would take you forever to get the data." Gabrielle asks, "OOC: Actually, wouldn't they get it really, really quickly?" Kanna OOCly says, "And the problem with going in -ourselves- is that it'd take us forever to GET there." Kanna OOCly says, "Time's slowing relative to the outside." Gabrielle says, "OOC: Since... wait.... no, my bad." Kanna OOCly says, "Further in, slower it gets." Kanna OOCly says, "Unless we had a good way to Torque the gradients wholesale..." Kanna OOCly says, "But THAT might frack things up ever worse." ====== ====== Jaqueline, out of boredom, sees if there's anything worthwhile seeing with temporal scrying. You study this shadow. Nothign interesting ever happened here ever. Jaqueline sighs and dispells the lense Lian looks around for a comfortable rock or treestump and sits down, then starts concentrating. ====== ====== John says, "OOC Well, you could try using the DJ of Metal to do a wholesale Torquing, yes." Jaqueline OOCly gets a bad feeling o.o Kanna OOCly says, "Save our main attunee is rather zorked." Gabrielle asks, "OOC: Am I okay to try something like that?" Kanna OOCly says, "And really, didn't you say this should be -short-, John?" Lian blinks and finally moves again. "Well, the temporal black hole effect is a fairly recent development." Kanna says, "Normal, save for the low magic. No outsider stuff." Kanna mmms at that report. Jaqueline sheepishly scratches the back of her head Beowulf hmmms. "Who do we know that might be able to explain this? I know I'm well out of my depth." Jaqueline scratches her head. "Ano..." She shrugs helplessly. Kanna says, "Which means either A, caused by the Shadow getting eaten by the Outsiders, B, caused by Jacqu Jewel of Judgementing the surrounding area, C, Random weirdness courtesy of construct being taken out just -as- sis Patternslaved and Jewel doing its thing, D, or DAMN powerful Shadow-editing, really quick." Kanna says, "Best thought would be Great-Grandpa F." Kanna says, "Those are just my off-the-cuff thoughts, mind." Kanna says, "Or Anno of Gainax." Lian says, "Well, the most logical explanation is that we have a rather nasty hole in our universe there." Jaqueline hmmms. "When I escaped, I shut down Outsider Magic, then blew a really big hole where the Gaunt Man used to be." Jaqueline frets. "Would raw Jewel energy do that?" Beowulf nods. "In any case, I suspect there's not a whole lot more we can learn here, or that we could investigate with our current equipment." Lian says, "The death of the Gaunt Man combined with the construct going poof, especially if it was linked into its shadow could do it fairly easily." Kanna says, "Hrm. I wouldn't -think- so? Sis's used Patternfire oodles of times before and toched shadows, yes,b ut not -removed- them." Gabrielle scratches her head. "The effects of the Patternslave are less than well-documented." Kanna says, "Ah." She sighs. "And none of -us- have the skills to make the place or to seal it off in any sort of sense easly." Jaqueline frets and imagines Kozue calling her 'Shadow Crusher' Kanna says, "Well, it's only been used, what, twice?" She quirks a grin. Beowulf asks, "So, should we head back and join the others?" Jaqueline nodnods Kanna shrugs. "Anyway, I move that we return to the group, as it's late, we're tired, and ask questions of others more knowledgeable than we." Kanna says, "We can let the King and Great-Grandpa Fuy and Mom know about the hole that needs a cork, and let -them- worry about it." Beowulf says, "Yes. We're in over our heads with this thing, I think." With Jacqueline, this goes without saying. Lian stretches and winces slightly. "We could do a preliminary seal actually, to keep things from going in, and make it harder for things coming out. At the very least we'd get an alarm." Lian says, "Unfortunately, we'd be working for a few days." Beowulf asks, "What did you have in mind?" Kanna says, "Though, hum... is the Ebenscrux shadow still around, Bey? Moriya took out its owner first, but I know you told me things were wonked to the Abyss and gone once you guys tried to take its construct out. Then again, it was a staggerd, not simultaneous event." Kanna says, "Which would be days here." Jaqueline says, "we'd be missing some important things in Amber..." Kanna moves over, and gives Lian a quick back massage. Kanna says, "Given things are slower -here-, I think we can take the time to bop back home, get more advice/opinions, then come back." Beowulf says, "I'm not sure, actually. Anno, Motoko and Davros were the last ones in there." Lian mmms. "Thanks, Kanna. You're great." She nods to Jacqui, "That's the problem, yes. We should call Amber later and ask if someone can come and do the sealing. If not, it's going to be us." Kanna says, "Wheee." Beowulf says, "What fun." He smiles. I'd asked John for a WF estimate on the missiles, and he'd said that eventually they'd get lucky, but we could dodge for some time... and ignored the larger implications. ;_;" Beowulf says, "I'd also assumed that the zep would be dispelled at some point, and took the precaution of getting parachutes made of Real fabric that couldn't be dispelled... I couldn't imagine that it was possible to tweak a shadow so that a simple circle of cloth could be made not to work. ;_;" John says, "The way Gauntie knew you were coming was that he expected a rescue and has been monitoring the dreams of Amberites with the Lion Spikard of Dreams."
