Kanna OOCly says, "As she'll be wanting to talk with the Arden Elves first, and Lady Yumi beforehand." Jacqueline the Damned exclaims, "OOCLY FUNK ELVES!" DM says, "OOC Okay, let's send you to see the Elves." =========================== =========================== Kanna rides from the Arden Stronghold to the town o' the Elves, still kitted out with her gear and travel pack and schtuff. You ride down to the Elven village, where the Elves wave. They, of course, remember you, as from their perspective, you've hardly been gone :) Kanna grins, and hangs with her homies, the Funk Elves, checking in with her friends and regailing them with a bit of commiseration and tales of adventure before trying to hunt down one of the loremasters or storytellers to see if they're available to chat with. You hang with them for a while. They tell you all about how the cockatrice flocks are exceptionally large this year, which has made things very difficult. Kanna winces at the reports of that, and has Fingolfin and Hiko tried tracking down why the flocks are so huge these days? She'd offer to help out, but she's needing to run around and about in Shadow soon on missions for her mom. And the Choomba mushrooms are flourishing more than usual, which makes matters worse, as few things are more dangerous than hallucinating cockatrices. Kanna facepalms at -that- news. "Stoned Cockatrices. Wuuunderful. Well, I'll be on my guard, then." You page, "Usual treatments for dealing with Cockatrices, and the names of some of the loremasters?" to Akemi. Maeglin tells you, "Oh, every few decades, the cockatrices seem to have a population boom. It's some sort of strange cycle programmed into them. Anyway, if you're in southern Arden, be careful." Kanna OOCly says, "ack, wait. Log didn't turn on." Kanna OOCly says, "oh, wait, it -did-. 'nm." You then go to see one of the loremasters, an old fellow named Turgon. Turgon is busy convincing several bushes to grow together when you find him. "Ahh, there you are," he says. "Did you bring me the camphor?" Kanna bows respectfully to Turgon, as the older guys in the eleves never did quite get into the Funkification fully... She then blinks. The memory suddenly comes back to you that the last time you saw him, he asked you to get him some camphor, but you forgot about it. That was years ago. ===== ===== You page, "Would Kanna usually carry camphor? Oh. D'oh. -_-;" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Nope. It's not something in her typical inventory :)" to you. Akemi pages, "Gabby could grab you some and pass it to you, though." to you. ===== ===== Kanna blinks, and facepalms. "I'm sorry, Turgon... I forgot, I forgot, good pyricorn..." She taps her manifestation badge. "Sis? got some camphor you could grab and drop off for me?" Gabby funnels you some camphor to give the man. He smiles. "Good, good. So how are you, Kanna?" Kanna hands it to Turgon, and finds a place to sit. "Been better, been worse, Turgon..." She smiles sheepishly, and scratches her cheek absently. "... been meaning to drop in more often, but it slipped my mind what with running around Shadow a lot lately. Though I came across something in my travels... a mention of the Menelcamar. And it sounded like something relating to you guys here, and I was wondering if there was any legends about him." "Well, the first Menelcamar was lost in shadow during our escape from Beleriand. He lead us to freedom using the Silmarils, but then he vanished one day." Kanna nods at that. "Just wandered off, and then grandpa gendo found you guys and brought you the rest of the way to Amber? What was his name?" "Tuor. His mother was half-Maiar, half-elven, while his father was human." "We still don't know what happened to him, though most of us suspect there was some sort of accident with the Silmaril." Kanna winces at that, but nods. "Damn. What sorts of deeds did Tuor do, other than leading the elves out of Beleriand?" ========= ========= You page, "What does Kanna know of the Silmaril's, overall? And the Maiar were the direct 'children' of the Valar, yes?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "The Maiar were servants of the Valar, of lesser power, but still 'gods'. There were only 12 Valar, but dozens, maybe hundreds or even thousands of Maiar. The Silmarils were three gems of power forged by an Elf, Feanor. Their theft by Morgoth led one group of Elves to leave the home of the Valar against the Valar's command to make war on him." to you. You page, "*nod* And that group formed the core of the Arden Elves,m then?" to Akemi. You page, "After fighting Morgoth and getting one of the Sil's from 'em?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yes. His parents winkled it away from Morgoth." to you. ======== ======== "He was a mighty warrior like his father, and a mighty sorceror like his mother. It was he who puzzled out how to use the one Silmaril we had recovered to escape." "King Gendo later found us in the home we ended up in, and brought us here." Kanna mmmms at that, thoughtful, scratching her cheek, "-Ah-. Right, after they got it out of Morgoth's hands. Hmmmm. Was that Silmaril ever recovered, or did Tuor vanish with it?" "He vanished with it." Turgon continues, "Most likely, we fear he did something to get lost in shadow while experimenting with it." Kanna mms at that, and sighs, and nods. "Right." She looks thoughtful again. "Were there any other names Tuor was known by, or the Menelcamar as well? The -word- Menelcamar sounded familiar, which is why I came to you, but I couldn't get the word-roots until I asked great-grandfather, and he said it meant 'Sword-of-Heaven", and that he was the son of a god and a mortal." She smiles, sheepishly. ======== ======== You page, "Hm... if 'Menelcamar' as 'Sword of Heaven' is old Elvish... what is it in modern? Or does Kanna know that? *wg*" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You could say it in modern Elvish." to you. You page, "Right. *wg*" to Akemi. ======= ======= Turgon says, "He was simply Tuor, son of Beren and Luthien. And he became our High King." Kanna ahs, and nods, smiling a bit. "Right." He asks, "Why are you interested in the Menelcamar, anyway?" Kanna looks sheepish, and scratches the back of her head. "Well, I heard a prophesy the other day, that said to seek him out in the Blessed Realms beyond the seas of Beleriand... to bring him to the realms of order, ie. here, so that he could learn to -be- the Menelcamar..." Kanna says, "...'cause if I'm not -totally- off base from what I've heard earlier today from Cousin Hiko... I think he's Shaft's son by Nienna." He blinks. "Hmm, an interesting idea. Certainly possible." ====== ====== Jacqueline the Damned says, "OOCly YE GADS O.o" Kanna OOCly was waiting for that reaction, OH yes. >) Jacqueline the Damned says, "OOCLY YES I am BOGGLED" ====== ====== Kanna says, "And with the other parts I heard, it fits. Given his father, if it's Shaft, didn't like magic... and his sister, Jacqueline, misuses it," She looks rueful, "and his grandmother, Utena, is one of the best blades of our family." He asks, "What prophecy is this?" Kanna hrms, and recites the prophesy. "Something I heard in relation to something else I was researching. I have reason to beleive its veracity, given the information I've learned... if nothing else, it can't hurt to check, given Cousin Shaft's death." She sighs. "We have plans to Hellride to Beleriand on the 'morrow, and since there's a fasttime gradient -there-, and we've got trumps as well..." she shrugs. "Given everything happening recently, I feel it'd be best to find him and get him back to the family." You page, "This is Kanna NOT mentioning her sis has become a prophesy-machine. :)" to Akemi. He nods. "Good luck on your trip." Kanna nods. "Thanks." She smiles slightly. "Any recommendations or warnings for the trip to Beleriand? And how far would it be from the shores of Beleriand to the Blessed Realms, according to legend?" He says, "It took a week of sailing, if our legends are correct." He says, "But the trip should be quite safe. Morgoth has long been imprisoned. Kanna says, "And long may he stay that way. I'm still gonna be careful, though. Things are happening out in Shadow that I just do NOT like." He nods. "Shadow is oft very dangerous." Kanna says, "Dooon't I know it." She chuckles, and gets up and bows to Turgon. "Well, thank you for your time, Turgon. I'd best be heading back to the castle to make preparations." She grins a bit. ======= ======= DM asks, "OOC Okay, up to the palace next?" Kanna OOCly says, "up to the palace to find Yumi, eyup. That should fill up the time to rendevous with Lian as I plan to bail for bed at 12 here." ======= ======= You go up to the palace and get sent to the library, where she is reading a romance novel. She looks up at you and smiles. "Hello." Kanna smiles and waves. "Hey there, Lady Yumi." She finds a chair to pull over. "Got a few moments to chat? Got some questions for you that I think you can help me with..." She says, "Sure. What's the problem?" Kanna says, "Well, as it turns out, I and Lian and a couple others are going to be riding out to Beleriand tomorrow, and I was wondering... what the trip was like for when you and Uncle Makoto and Cousin Shaft went there?" She says, "Rather safe and dull, except when some Chaosians lured us into a trap shadow and tried to kill us." She continues, "When you get close to Beleriand, there's some danger of orc attacks, I suppose." Kanna nods. "Trap Shadows. Whee.." She nods. "How tough were the orcs, overall?" She says, "Dangerous to shadow humans, five second pushovers to an Amberite." Kanna chuckles a bit at that. "Any risks in Beleriand itself? I know some of the stories about what you guys did there, and that Shaft spanked Morgoth's ass... but what other things happened? Given everything that's happened recently..." She shakes her head. She says, "Well, we crushed the font of all evil, so it's probably fairly safe. I suppose it's possible you might end up having to fight some of the Balrogs if they didn't catch them all, or stray orcs. I must admit I haven't been back in forty years, though, and time is fast there, so by now, it may all be a giant strip mall." She continues, "Humans, elves, and dwarves are the main races." Kanna nods, and makes notes in her minidiary. She thinks a minute. "I suggest you sail there so you don't lose time looking for a boat once you arrive." Kanna says, "I think I'll try having us 'find' a boat with willing crew along the way... I think time is off the essance for the trip we're planning, and Hellriding and Sailing don't always get along too well." She quirks a smile. ======== ======== You page, "Hellriding by sea is generally somewhat more risky, yes? given you're trying to hold -some- things constant (like the water), but if the environment goes wacky you'd be even more screwed than normally by horse or whatnot." to Akemi. Akemi pages, "It can be a problem, yah." to you. You page, "(Kanna's thought is ride most of the way by land via Hellride, then shift for finding a steadfast boat with Willing and Trustworthy and Loyal crew, and then sail the rest. But that's for later. :)" to Akemi. In a page-pose to you, Akemi nods. ======= ======= Kanna then hrms again. "What -was- taking Morgoth down like? I've heard stories, but you know historians..." She looks rueful. "And when it comes to Cousin Shaft, folks have a tendency to exxagerate." Jacqueline the Damned says, "OOCly oy vey, the Shitting Incident comes back to light -.-" Yumi says, "It was a horrendous battle. I managed to protect Ota's mind long enough for him to force Morgoth into hand to hand combat." She wrinkles her nose. "With some fairly disgusting results. Morgoth was stronger, but he was much faster. Kanna arches an eyebrow at that. "Strong in mind and blade, I take it? Hrm. Speed is a risk, too." She then considers. "Oh, Trump and Pattern and Sorcery and Logrus all worked there fine, right?" She says, "The last time we were there, yes." Jacqueline the Damned says, "OOCly idling to sneak in and suck bandwith, brb" Kanna nods, taking more notes, and then smiles, closing the minidiary. "Thanks, Lady Yumi. I'll keep it in mind." She then hrms. "Oh, how've things been going down here? I admit I've been outa touch..." Yumi says, "Oh, things have been fine." She continues, "Jacqui just left a day or two ago to head out to the Shadow Theatre." "She's started working on investigating her father's death." Kanna nods. "Coolness." she then hrms. "Heard she might be spikard-hunting too... at least she's got Aunt Utena with her, I think. According to sis, who told me a day ago." Kanna says, "And Moriya and Motoko are investigating -Shizumaru- having vanished... Bey's off doing stuff with your daughters..." She grins a bit at that. Lady Yumi smiles. "Nausicaa is in Leng, I believe, with Naru, Kentaro, and Keitaro. I pray no one has killed each other yet." Kanna's eyes widen a bit at that. "In -Leng-? Good pyricorn, why? And I certainly -hope- not... as much as Kentaro and Keitaro could use some clue, they're still family." She looks rueful. "Her father sent her." Yumi says, "Apparently, he's been suffering attacks from Lengites over the last few years, and believes they may have some connection to what happened with Rebma and Ota." Kanna mmms at that, thoughtful, and nods. "Cute." She scratches her cheek, and judges the time she's got before rendevousing with lian before the confab with mom over dinner. You have an hour or two. Kanna says, "Hm... Thoric or Lucien or Mutsumi been up to anything recently?" "Lucien is out in shadow. Thoric and Mutsumi haven't been up to too much, other than I believe Mutsumi helped rescue Prince Ramon." Kanna nods. "Well, I think that covers the younger folks, then. Nice to be able to keep tabs on things." She looks thoughtful. "There wouldn't happen to be any books on elven legends in the stacks I could poke through for a bit?" She nods back at the Royal Library shelves. She says, "Oh, there's lots of books. You'd need to ask Travis or Anna where to find them." Kanna chuckles. "Thanks, Lady Yumi. I think I'll do that." She gets up from her seat, and bows. "See you 'round, I imagine, and take care." She nods. "See you later!" =========================== =========================== Kanna OOCly says, "And fork here, I think, as I -should- have been to bed a half-hour ago. *wg*" DM says, "OOC No sweat."
