Windir has arrived. Kanna OOCly says, "Anyway... picking up where we left off..." =========================================== =========================================== Kanna continues to sketch and write notes for a while, though the aroma of fresh coffee continues to drift through the house, daring others to awake if they smell it. Lian's just headed upstairs to the bedroom portion of the split-level house to check on Thropan, and Gabrielle at last check was sitting in the living/dining area as well. Beowulf finally wakes as the smell penetrates his nostrils, and heads out to see if he can stir up some breakfast for Lily. ===== ===== The_Prof pages, "You're still in the kitchen, right?" to you. You page, "Kanna's in the dining/living area, which is right next to the open-bar kitchen." to The_Prof. You page, "so when he comes down the stairs, he should see Kanna in one of the chairs, Gaby on the couch, paintings on the walls, etc. Windows.. kinda a cross between modern ranch, and rustic hand-build medival. If bey comments, Kanna will explain. :)" to The_Prof. ===== ===== The room he and Lily claimed is a pretty decent, but spare, guest room. Hand-hewn furniture and queen-sized bed, closet with mirror, a landscape conceptual painting, of all places, Amber City hanging on one wall. Proceeding down the hall leads to the stairs and living area. Beowulf looks at the painting with interest; Kanna's work? He stretches a muscle at a time, grunting softly to keep from waking Lily, then follows the smell to the kitchen/dining area. Kanna looks up at the sound of footsteps, and then smiles as she sees Beowulf coming down the stairs. "Hey there, Bey... G'morning..." She waves with her free pencil-holding hand, the other holding a notepad with which she was sketching on. Gabrielle waves in the manner in which people sprawled on couches wave. Beowulf's eyes widen in pleasure as he takes in the pleasant room, airy and warmly framed in wood. "G'morning, Kanna." He looks around, and a shutter seems to fall across his expression as he sees Gabrielle. "Oh. Good morning, Gabrielle," he says coldly. Beowulf turns to look at Kanna again, ignoring Gabrielle. Beowulf asks, "What's up this morning?" Kanna closes her eyes, and quietly winces. She then gets up with a slight, tentative smile, tucking her notepad under her shoulder. "Oh not much... chatting with sis, chatting with Lian, making coffee and breakfast... waiting for the rest to wake up..." Beowulf smiles a bit at Kanna. "Lily's sleeping in a bit; I was hoping to bring her some breakfast in bed. How's Lian doing?" Kanna says, "Doing better, now that she's out of that place and with Thropan and here. You must've missed Lian head upstairs to check on Thropan... either that, or she's taking her time -getting- him up." She manages a wan grin. "You good for pancakes, sausage, bacon, and hash browns?" Beowulf says, "Probably did miss her... though I doubt if anyone would blame her for taking her time waking him." He smiles a bit. "Just so long as they stay quiet enough to let Lily sleep, I'm fine..." He keeps his back to Gabrielle as he talks, as if she didn't exist. Beowulf says, "The food sounds good... anything I can do to help?" Gabrielle lies on the couch in the manner of those who don't really give a leap what Beowulf thinks of them. ====== ====== You page, "(oh great, this is gonna stress -kanna- out, not work on either of the two there... -.-; )" to The_Prof. The_Prof pages, "Yah... well, Bey's trying to be polite to Kanna by not starting something, and right now acknowledging Gaby's existence further would probably start something." to you. The_Prof pages, "It's probably just as well Bey *can't* see Gaby right now, if she were making that attitude that plain." to you. ====== ====== Kanna hehs a little bit, and heads into the kitchen area, starting to point things out... the wood stove and oven, the pantry, etc. "Well, you're welcome to prepare anything different yourself from what we've got... but the stuff I cooked up earlier should be still warm..." Kanna picks up the little heating dome, and fresh scents of cooked meats and pancakes waft up. "Yup, it is." She grins slightly. Beowulf nods and hmmms, looking at the food. "Not bad," he says, smiling. "Remind me to cook some cornmeal pancakes for you next time." Kanna chuckles softly. "I'd appreciate that." She hrms. "Lian was suggesting making pies tonight... I'll need to check the trees out back, it's been a while and I'm -still- not sure what season we're in." Beowulf blinks. "Apple, or cherry?" He quirks a grin. "Or something else entirely?" Kanna quirks a smile. "Sorry, just apples here. The plants here on Jade are pretty much what you'd find on Earth elsewhere... nothing particularly exotic, except in the weirder places." Kanna hrms. "Hrm. If you're gonna want breakfast in bed for Lily, you're gonna want a tray or two..." Kanna starts rummaging. "Plates are in that cabinet over there, mugs are on the rack on the side wall, I'll probably need to do something about juices soon..." Beowulf asks, "Apples are fine." He grabs a tray, a plate, and starts filling it up for Lily. "Thanks, by the way." He smiles. "Any grape juice?" ===== ===== You page, "Hm, with Control of Contents on the Shadow, it should be possible to go "Hey, it's likely that there should be a preserved Grape Juice container here", and find it? :)" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Yes :)" to you. ===== ===== Kanna hrms thoughtfully. "-Hrm-. Y'know... we just might..." Kanna rummages some more in the pantry, where there -just coincentally- happens to be a Grape Juice Concentrate container that happened to have been left there the last time Kanna was in Jade, provided by Gina. (the wonders of cross-planar imports.) Kanna quirks another grin. "Never know what you're gonna find lurkin' around, y'know?" Kanna gets out a pitcher, empties the concentrate into it, and fills it up with fresh water from the tanks that feed to the faucets in the kitchen. She stirs with a long wooden spoon to mix it well. "'Fraid it isn't chilled, Bey, but the Refrigerator Lian and Gina built, while good, has yet to be fully stocked and I just turned it back on last night." Beowulf cocks an eyebrow at her. "And did she, or did she not, make highly frivolous use of the Pattern?" He grins back. "You be the judge." Beowulf says, "Chilling... hopefully we'll be doing enough of that down here to suffice." He winks at Kanna, again ignoring Gabrielle completely. Kanna raises her hands in mock denial. "Who me? You can't trust a girl in her own home to have accidentally left some supplies behind?" She then hehs softly, and her smile falters slightly. "... yeah, me too, Beowulf... me too." Gabrielle ignores Beowulf ignoring her. In fact, it looks like she's dozed off on the couch a bit. Kanna gets glasses, and fills them with Grape Juice before putting the pitcher in the "GinaTech Chill-O-Matic-2120 with AutoDefrost and Defensive Measures" refrigerator section. Beowulf smiles at the refrigerator. "Should I even ask?" =================== =================== The_Prof pages, "Boy, Merc's just pushing it, isn't he?" to you. You page, "*sigh* Well, hey, every time Bey mentions it, that prompts a response of -some- kind... and by this point she's been grilled over the coals by both her mom and Jacqui who -have- had a right to be upset... *shrugh* We'll see." to The_Prof. The_Prof pages, "Well... what I'm going to say, if he tries to make an issue out of it: "Let's see..." He begins ticking off items on his fingers, face set like stone. "You decided to act like a third-grader on the playground, trying to prove 'who's baddest!', instead of an adult." He ticks off another finger. "You decided that holding a grudge match in private isn't enough, oh no... you had to brag in front of the entire *fucking* universe. Which lead to little things like sponsorship by the Juri Porn Channel and the KTC -- you remember them? The ones who have a price on our heads?" A muscle starts jumping along his jaw. "And that also lead to Mutsumi, Jacqui and Thoric's relationship being broadcast to *50 trillion people*. I'm sure they just loved that." His face sets further. "And then you used one of the lowest bits of dirty pool I've ever seen in a fight, particularly since the only thing at stake was your ego. >>" The_Prof pages, ""To top it all off, you pull in the fucking *Jewel of Judgement* like it was some kind of toy for your amusement." The_Prof pages, "That still doesn't answer why she did it at *all*. :p" to you. You page, "Well, the IC/OOC not really shown thing is what I discussed with merc. Gaby has a SEVERE inferiority/fear complex regarding the Logrus." to The_Prof. The_Prof pages, "4., same as three. Wouldn't have even been an issue if she hadn't decided she had to flaunt her ego across the entire fucking universe." to you. You page, "Then again, having a giant Logrus-powered squid total a good part of the kingdom you're a part of would lead to that sort of thing, I suppose." to The_Prof. ====================== ====================== Kanna rolls her eyes. "It was her idea, to keep forest critters who may, Pyricorn Knows How, manage to get into the house to keep them from trying to get into the fridge." She shakes her head. "Really, with the stuff Lian and Brianna put into here, we shouldn't have any problems -anyway-..." Kanna says, "And before they were around, there wasn't a fridge to worry -about-, so..." She shrugs, rueful. Beowulf's eyebrows raise. "And what do they put into here? Hopefully nothing *too* drastic..." Kanna shrugs. "Eh, just force-fields, shielding, ability to wistand a nuke at ground zero... no biggie." Beowulf says, "...ah." Kanna says, "Gina believes in Durability." Beowulf snorts, chuckling a little. "Apparently so." Kanna says, "Anyway... whenever Lian gets back out of the bedroom, we were figuring trumping Ruka to get more clarifications on his naval situation and such, what else the bases might need. If Lian's -not- out, I could always give you and Lily a quick tour of the place... I know it was late when I brought you guys here." She smiles apologetically. Beowulf nods. "Yes. We definitely need to see what we can do to help Ruka out with the southern fleet." He looks faintly haunted. "And check the repeater box with a temporal scry, and see what we can figure out from it." Beowulf manages a weak smile. "If Lian's not out quickly..." His smile becomes a bit more natural. "...let me see what Lily wants to do." Kanna nods. "If nothing else, given some time here, I can get us in touch with some shipwrights in Trinc and Main Guard.. they're the closest major cities on the coast from here..." She quirks a smile. "You got it, Bey." Beowulf hefts the tray. "In the meantime, before this gets cold..." He smiles at Kanna, then nods towards the stairs. "Back in a little bit." He heads up the stairs to take the tray to Lily. Lily smiles at Beowulf as he arrives. "Breakfast in bed. Thank you." Beowulf places the tray on her lap, then smiles and sits down beside her. "You're very welcome. Though you should only thank me for the delivery service; I think Kanna and Lian fixed the meal while we were slug-a-bed." Kanna watches Beowulf head out with a slight smile. Her face then falls, and she lets out a long, tired, aggrivated sigh. "Well, -fuck-," she mutters under her breath, and squeezes her eyes shut. Beowulf kisses Lily on the cheek. "Not that I *minded* being slug-a-bed." Kanna moves out from the kitchen area to check on her sister. "Gaby? Sis?" she murmurs quietly, to check if she's really asleep or just faking it. She smiles. "Exactly. It's nice to relax. And be waited on." She winks. Gabrielle is actually dozed off. Although she doesn't really 'sleep' in the conventinal manner. Beowulf beeps Lily on the nose, then holds a piece of bacon up to her mouth for her. "Your wish is my command." She giggles and takes the bacon and munches on it, letting you feed her all you want. Beowulf conjures up a bunch of grapes, and begins popping them in her mouth one at a time, grinning as he does. Kanna sighs softly. She looks down sadly at her sister, leans down, and hugs her, even as she 'sleeps'. Tears collect at the corners of her eyes, and she mentally sends through the manifestation, <<...sis?... you... you'd better demanifest for the nonce. ... i know things are gonna have to be confronted, so things can be resolved and redeemed eventually... but after the past few days, the stress might taint everything here, and I think those who saw what happened need some distance. *love* *hopeful reconciliation* *hopeful healing* *love sister gabrielle*>> Gabrielle derezzes. *eh. I'll be fine. You worry too much, younger sister.* ======= ======= The_Prof pages, "Well, Bey'll put it this way... "I'll probably be able to forgive you, some day. But that day may be long in coming."" to you. ======= ======= Lily lets Beowulf feed her, obviously enjoying it. Once she finishes eating, she says, "So what's the plan for today, loverboy?" Beowulf smiles back. "Well, if Lian isn't back from waking up her friend, Kanna offered to take us on a tour of the place. Interested?" Kanna quirks a slight smile, and brushes a tear from her eye. <> She watches her sister derez with a mixed expression, and then sits down on the couch where her sister was. She goes and pulls over her notepad, and sketches Sleeping Gabrielle On The Couch to try and take her mind off things. All right, perhaps not the best subject -for- taking one's mind off things, but hey. Lily says, "Yes, I could go for a tour. How should I dress for this world?" Beowulf hmmms. "We're in a forest 'pocket' here, but I understand outside is a pretty warm desert." He grins at her. "From what I could see of the people when we came in, your normal 'travelling' leathers shouldn't be too out of place." ====== ====== You page, "From what Bey could see from the windows while moving about downstairs, it seems Kanna's place is rather off the beaten path. Though seeing folks in Seer's Hamlet... standard fantasy-wear for women... which means practical yet sexy, or barbarian babe, or what have you. :)" to The_Prof. You page, "(it's a fantasy world drawn by a guy who draws buxom women for profit. Of -course- everybody female's gonna look good. :)" to The_Prof. You page, "Actually, bey wouldn't know it, but we've left the hamlet completely. So he didn't get to see the grasses of the desert. :)" to The_Prof. The_Prof pages, "Ahhh. :)" to you. You page, "Hell with it. Quick scan so you all can see what I'm talking about." to The_Prof. ======== ======== Lily nods and begins a spell to transform her clothing appropriately. Beowulf politely looks the other way. Lily laughs. She's soon wearing a rather Robinhoodesque style outfit, complete with longbow, though a bit more revealing in front than the average such outfit. Beowulf grins. "Yes, that should fit in very well indeed." Beowulf makes a sweeping gesture out the door. "Shall we, Lady Marian?" Beowulf grins as he says this, then pauses for a moment, and conjures himself a matching set in Lincoln green. She laughs and descends to the living room with you. Beowulf makes a sweeping bow to Kanna as he enters, flourishing his hat extravantly. "Your guests have arrived, Friar Kanna." Kanna looks up at the twosome as they step down from the bedroom/guest areas, and raises her eyebrows. "Well... decided to go native, you two?" She quirks a smile. "And here I forgot to get out my travelling cloak." She gets up from where she was sitting... the couch that Gabrielle was lying on, earlier. There is no sign of Gaby, though. "Anyway, Lily, Beowulf, welcome to my humble abode." Lily smiles. "It's very nice. Thank you for your hospitality." Beowulf looks around for Lian. "Hasn't made it down, yet? Lily sounded interested in the tour, so if you could..." He smiles at Kanna. Kanna hehs softly. "After everything we've been through recently... I felt it was only fair." She tucks her sketchpad under her arm. "Lian and Thropan must be still snuggling, sooo..." Beowulf grins. "Let's leave them to it." Kanna gestures at the room. "Anyway, as you probably guessed, this is the combination Living/Dining area, with the porch working aroudn the front of the house to the east and south... next is the kitchen, of course..." Kanna starts guiding them through the house. Now that you're able to see more of the living area, there's several paintings in Kanna's hand. One of Kanna with a group of four at a picnic in a field full of butterflies... a wedding portrait of a tiger-striped guy to a woman who's taller and cheetah-spotted, and one of Lian with the Edge Guard. Beowulf nods, listening attentively. Beowulf asks, "Interesting folk. I take it Thropan has a lot of company?" Kanna hehs, and nods. "He does a lot of his work here on Jade with the Edge Guard, but his family's back in the Retreat... a lot of Earth-Realm's magic-users and creatures emigrated there when technology began its ascendance." Kanna says, "Or to here, but Jade's settlement was back during the middle of the Time of Magic, not near the end, when the Retreat was created." Lily says, "So we're dealing with multiple shadows with easy access between them?" Kanna says, "Well, not on the hyper-extensive commuter level... but yes, those with the right means can cross over easily. Mostly in the realm of magic and spells, though technology can serve the same purpose." Beowulf nods. "Interesting. What's that done to their culture?" Lily smiles. "Always the archaeologist." Beowulf shrugs, grinning unrepentantly. "Gotta go with what you trained as..." Kanna leads them through a door in the back of the kitchen, which leads past a storage area, and a mud room/mini gear-locker area. "Well, Earth-Realm itself is pretty much like your average Shadow Earth. *pause* Okay, save for the high number of odd archelogical sites... I hear there's some spacefaring races as well, but really, I haven't visited it all -that- much." She looks sheepish. "Jade, howeve... well, the populace -does- recognize technology, but it's somewhat predjudiced against as 'scifi stuff'." ========= ========= Kanna OOCly says, "And for those who's curious: http://www.eyrie.org/~aerianne/dld/amber/jade.map1.jpg" ========= ========= Kanna says, "Magic and tech levels are the same for both realms, and I'm pretty sure the Retreat as well... basically, Jade got settled 'cause as Magic users got more predjuiced against, they came here instead to live life their own way." Beowulf hmmms. "You keep mentioning the Retreat... what's that, compared to Jade and the Earth variant?" Kanna says, "Basically, a created pocket shadow for the creatures of magic to survive and thrive in peace, waiting for when Earth-Realm itself was reacy to accept magic openly again." ======= ======= The_Prof pages, "I take it Seer's Hamlet is in the middle of the Seer's Desert?" to you. You page, "Pin-pon. *nod* Kanna's place is in the forested areay between Seer's deserts and those lakes that you see." to The_Prof. ======= ======= Lily nods. "Right." Beowulf nods. "I see." Beowulf says, "You mentioned archeological sites?" His fingers start twitching. Kanna chuckles. "Gina would be better to ask for those than I.. though, hm.,.." Kanna unlocks one of the gear lockers. "-Knew- I had a few spare maps that Julia-Sensei and I had marked up from a while back... ah, here we go." Kanna pulls out a couple scrolls, and hands them to Beowulf. "They're not hyper-current for Jade, but then again, this place isn't exactly in a massive building spree like Earth-Realm is." She quirks a grin. Beowulf grins and takes the scrolls, hmmm'ing occasionally as he scans 'em. Kanna says, "Mind you, what a lot of people thought about Jade originally... that it was just another planet, just another realm to be discovered... was a fallacy." Lily asks, "Is there anywhere here good for going shopping?" ====== ====== Beowulf asks, "OOC The scrolls are pretty much what you posted?" Kanna OOCly yup. "Seer's Hamlet, in the middle of Seer's Desert... if Apex Rock's holding a tournament, the Grand Bazzar is always good for mega-shopping... Tessa's a big place, but it's a tad far away, and deep in Barbarian Clan Lands, though that's not a bad thing..." Kanna goes on to list various and sundry locations on Jade where Lily could Buy Mass Quantities. Kanna says, "Anyway, as I was saying... and as Lian and I've mentioned to beowulf before... is that only recently, 'bout a decade ago, it was discovered that -Jade- and the pocket universe it's in... was -built- as well." Kanna says, "By a race known as the Nomad Artifacers... which Lian later determined had a hand in building -her- place, Mechanus." Beowulf blinks. There's a covered walkway leading to another building off to the side, so that the house itself and the walkway to the other building form a 'U' pointing towards the forest area, leaving a clearing that's clearly used for sparring in the middle. Beowulf murmurs, "All kinds of interesting things are turning out to have been built, it seems." Kanna nods. "Yeah. Weird, huh. Anyway, here you can see our little 'beat each other up' spot, and beyond it the forest, and you can see the back of the house and the upper part with the bedrooms and baths..." she gestures across the way. "And along -this- path, we get to the forge." Lily laughs. "Do you beat each other up often?" Kanna chuckles. "Well, a girl's gotta keep in practice -somehow-... and Julia-sensei always made sure that I learned something in every sparring session." Kanna scratches the back of her head, embarrased. "Okay, so most of the time the lesson was 'don't do -that-, but hey." She grins. Kanna gets the doors to the forge, and hauls them open, leading the two inside. It's quite clearly well-used and well kept, the scent of coal and charcoal heavy in the air, as well as that of steel and iron and oil. Samples of rather well-made cultlery hang on the walls, nicely arrayed in a smaller 'display' area... and we're not talking about dinner knives and demitasse forks, here. ====== ====== The_Prof pages, "How late did you want to run tonight? "Obviously, a place well-loved." He smiles a bit. Kanna blushes slightly. "Thank you... Julia-sensei taught me everything I know 'bout sword-crafting." She lifts up her hands, grinning ruefully. "And I've got the palm-scars to prove it." Beowulf lifts an eyebrow. "Ah, so *that's* where those came from." Kanna nods. "'sides, a girl's gotta make a living -somehow- when she's not out adventuring..." She winks, and shows them the forge proper. Anvils, slabs of raw metal ready for being worked on, a few peices that didn't quite work out. There's stacks of wood ready to be used in the actual part with the flames; there's a bellows, and a setup to allow it to operate by itself if Kanna's alone. Various boxes and bins are labeled in english and Ribbon, mostly indicicating where the supplies are. Beowulf rolls his eyes. "And now you're making me feel guilty for doing things the new-fashioned way." He wiggles his fingers and grins. Kanna says, "Fortuantely, some of the streams here are rich in sand iron ore, so I'm not lacking when I want to make good steel. -Specialty- stuff I need to go down to Dim Crag and trade with the Dwarven Kingdoms." She looks wry. "Hey, this way they aren't likely to get wiped out by weird phenomena." She winks. Beowulf raises his eyebrows. "'Weird Phenomena,' she calls it." Kanna shrugs. "Well, like weirdos having More Magic Than You capable of wiping out conjoured stuff, things of that nature..." She grins, and leads them back out. "Anyway, let's go check and see if the apples are in season..." Beowulf hmms. "Very well... make any good apple cider here?" He gives Kanna a mock-pleading look. Kanna says, "Iiii think I could be persuaded to haul out the Cider Press..." She winks. Beowulf looks around. "Sure you don't have any cherry trees? I know this lovely recipe for cherry cider..." Kanna looks wry. "Sorry, no cherry trees, Bey..." Kanna leads them back outside, to pick apples and to let the players go and sleep while we fork. ================================================ ================================================ Beowulf OOCly nods.
