"Mom didn't take it too well. Not as badly as she took Moriya's death, but..." Beowulf sighs. "Potential funeral, anyway. I'm still not sure how we're going to handle it." He frowns. "I don't normally hear you crackling like that; are you running into some interference?" She sighs. "Hmm, what, Beowulf?" Kanna sighs. "sometimes, it can't be helped, sis... like the Serpent's Horn, or Cathuria." She manages a slight smile. "Though I suppose it's par for the course, for the paranoia I get for when the Fire Pattern gets threatened." Beowulf smiles a bit at that, then goes sober again. "I appreciate your apology earlier, but I wasn't really worried about the hassle to myself." Kanna looks like she'd try to hug her Gabrielle manifestation if she could. Beowulf shakes his head. "I can live through that, really. What had me so angry was worrying about the possible consequences of what happened, and that you didn't seem to have thought them through." Gabrielle says, "If I hadn't thought about consequences, the Logrus and I would have been throwing planets at each other instead of wrestling." "Or sending giant shadow eating monsters to try to devour each other." "Or when we got mad, blown up the entire stadium and killed everyone in a 5000 shadow radius." Kanna considers this, and glances at Beoulf. "She does have a point, Bey." Beowulf rolls his eyes, shaking his head ruefully. "All right, you got me there. But it was the consequences of doing it at all that bugged me. It'd left us alone for 40 years, with some signs that things might even have gotten better in that respect." She says, "And more importantly, I didn't go running around its house blowing shit up when I dropped in for a visit. Nor was I there to murder someone from another universe for no good reason." Gabrielle says, "It's the nature of Primal Powers to clash. We're both sentient enough not to just blow up all of shadow in the process, but we can't just get along any more than matter and anti-matter can hang out together without exploding." Kanna has one of those long-patient looks she gets when she's heard this sort of thing before. She looks sort of wryly bemused, yet serious, and still listening. Beowulf quirks an eyebrow. "I hadn't heard about any of those things. Keeping secrets, Kanna?" He smiles a bit at her, before frowning again. "Still... call it a personal quirk if you like, but I just have a gut feeling that deliberately provoking someone is never a good idea, espeically if you expect to be clashing with them again in the future." Kanna shrugs. "Well, I don't hear -everything-, beowulf. But, well... getting once's city nearly totaled by Logrus-Powered-Squids would make anybody cranky." Beowulf says, "Or a gut reaction. Whatever... I just get bad reactions on a very deep level when something like that happens." Kanna hrms, reflecting. Kanna says, "Hrm." Beowulf says, "I mean, look... at what happened today." He closes his eyes in pain. "If... we'd simply found Lian's body at the edge of the Abyss, we probably would have mourned her and moved on." Gabrielle says, "I could, perhaps, bring up the pile of dead bodies the Logrus left in its wake the last time it dropped in for a visit." Kanna says, "I think, at this point, it's a case of chicken-and-the-egg, Beowulf. Er, I mean the Logrus/Sis thing, not... the thing with Lian." She continues, "As compared to the no one left dead by my last visit to its territory." She says, "And as for provoking it...the Logrus is, by its very nature, insane. Kanna says, "Hafta keep trying, though," quietly. Beowulf stops, mouth open, as he hears the last bit, then takes a deep breath and sighs. "I'm not asking you to feel sorry for the Logrus," he says quietly. "I'm just... well, anyway." He pauses, as if looking for the proper words to say. Kanna quirks a slight, sad smile. "All I ask... and I think all that anybody can hope for, ideally... is the chance for reconciliation. Eventually. Not a miraculous thing, out of the blue, but for it to happen in time." She looks wry. Kanna says, "That's just me speaking here, mind you." Gabrielle says, "Well, I'm not planning to provoke Jacqui any time soon." Beowulf says, "Whatever it might choose to take as a provocation, there's a difference between that and going down and challenging it to a duel. Even if it's a relatively harmless duel." Beowulf sighs. "Yes. Reconciliation is good... especially now." He bows his head. Kanna squeezes Bey's shoulder, gently. She also looks down at her manifestation. "Damn, I want to hug you so much right now, sis." Gabrielle says, "I would like to note for the record that I did not seek the Logrus out, but rather that it came looking for me." Gabrielle says to Kanna, "Oh, don't worry about it. Although I'd say you need a hug more than I do right now." Kanna quirks a sad smile. "Well, that's what Ruka's for." She blushes. "Among other things." She leans over, and one-armed-hugs Ruka. Gabrielle says, "Ruka, that's supposed to be your cue." Ruka laughs, then hugs Kanna back. Beowulf shakes his head. "I still feel like we owe it to her to talk to her about it, since we were sort-of there, but I suppose you're right." Beowulf says, "Maybe she told Uncle Tylor something, at least." Kanna says, "and if not, he can be warned." Beowulf frowns and nods. "Right." He squares his shoulders, then follows along with Kanna. Kanna says, "Sis might have the trump coordinates for Wasyuu's shadow, but I'm leery of jumping straight in. We'd probably be taken as intruders and shot on sight." She sticks out her tounge. Kanna heads off to try and find Da King. Beowulf says, "Especially now." Kanna says, "exactly." You find the King up in his office, pretending to read reports. He looks up at the two of you as come in, and he says, "Hello, Kanna, Beowulf. How are you?" Beowulf winces. "I've seen much better days." He manages a faint smile at Tylor. "I thought we weren't supposed to feel that way until we got old." Kanna says, "By some lights, beowulf, we already are." She sighs, and sits down. "How... how much have you heard of recent events, Uncle?" Tylor says, "If you're talking about Moriya's death, I have heard all about it. If you're talking about something else, I'm afraid I can't guess what you're thinking of." Beowulf sighs. "Lian... went into the Abyss yesterday, trying to rescue the White Knight." He closes his eyes in pain. "Her body came out today. She apparently wasn't in it." Tylor sighs. "I have heard many rumors of the power of the Abyss. Is she beyond help?" Beowulf focuses inward, a snarl forming on his face. "And the bastards who controlled her body tried to kill us, and *did* manage to kill the innocent guide House Gainax sent along with us." Kanna nods. "I felt her death, yesterday after I got home. And when Ruka and I went down to Chaos to investigate what had happened, Anno-sama said that Hoard was destroyed." She shakes her head. "I don't know, uncle. Until we can retrieve her body to examine it...." She shrugs, helplessly. Tylor winces. "Poor Lian. Well, now we know why Wasyuu ran off." He sighs. "I hope something can be done for her, but I fear that the best we can do is to recover her body." Beowulf takes a deep breath, trying to regain his balance. "Exactly. We don't know. Lucien's companion Morrigan thought there was a chance they'd bottled her soul up instead of just destroying it, but..." He also looks helpless, twitching a bit. Kanna reaches over, and squeezes Beowulf's hand. Tylor sighs. "I'm afraid I know very little of the Abyss." Beowulf says, "Did Wasyuu say... anything more than what she left on her answering machine? I feel like I owe it to her to talk to her, since we... found 'her', but..." "I will alert Makoto and have him keep an eye out." Tylor says, "She simply said she'd be gone for a while." Kanna says, "Uncle, I would suggest that the word be put out.. those of us who have our own Shadows, hideyholes and whatnot... that those who have sufficent power over their reality to shut off Abyss Power within them." Tylor nods. "Yes, of course." Kanna sighs at this new news. "Anno-sama said those who seek vengeance against those of the abyss run the risk of being claimed by it. But getting to Wasyuu's place is... difficult. But I should hope that she would attend her own daughter's funeral, if nothing else." Tylor says, "I don't know. Wasyuu can be pretty obsessive at times." Beowulf nods. "I want to take them out..." His jaw sets. "For her sake, yes, but also to keep people that sick from doing it to anyone else." Beowulf says, "But I don't want to rush in stupidly... and I'm trying to be a good boy and not do anything unless we can do it without getting ourselves killed. Maybe... I don't want to lose her, too." He sighs. Kanna nods, looking grim. "Believe me, Beowulf, you're not alone in feeling this way. But I don't want to lose you or anyone else to that place, so we will have to bide our time... or itnercept, for that matter, either. And nor do I, beoulf. Nor do I." Tylor says, "Wasyuu has always been a good servant to the royal family except when telling everyone Utena is their mother." He sighs. "I would not like to see anything happen to her." He says, "Revenge leads always to self-destruction. I do not want to see her walk that road." Beowulf says, "I had some information, that..." His voice cracks. "I wish I'd gotten to Lian before she went off... some ways to possibly go in the Abyss safely. I don't know, I just heard bits and pieces." He frowns. "But I intend to find out, when the time pressure is off here." Kanna nods, her eyes hooded, as she rubs her throat absently. "Exactly. The Abyss of Self-hate, Self-greif, Self-Destruction. "Lian's dead, or pretty much effectively so. Hoard of the Dragon was destroyed, I felt her death in ember, and the Abyss claimed her body." Lily sighs. "Poor Lian. She deserved better than that." Lily says, "Nothing left of her to bury, then?" Beowulf nods slowly. "And the bastards who did this... no. Not yet. It's worse than that." Kanna says, "And when we went down to Chaos to investigate... somebody, I don't know -who-, used her body and those of the knights of Hendrake that had accompanied her to try and ambush us. Kanna says, "I suppose that was part of the trap... if we recovered 'Lian' and thought she was actually alive, for all I know she could have infiltrated us that way." Beowulf nods. "Whatever controlled her body managed to escape. Those sick twisted people are probably going to keep sending it out until we manage to either capture or kill it." The look in his eyes just now could probably melt trestone. Kanna says, "And going purposefully after it to give closure to Lian... will probably not turn out well for ourselves." She sighs. "Not at the present time." Beowulf sighs, shaking his head. "Not that I'm not tempted... but that would probably just get me killed." He kisses Lily. I don't know if you've been contacted already, I think sis might be relaying stuff to you soon, or Lady Funaho for scheduling arrangements... of a double funeral." Lily nods. "No, I hadn't been contacted yet." She sighs. Kanna says, "As I -cannot- see my mother -not- attending either, and I'll be damned to Brand's Maelstrom if I cannot attend or speak at it." She mmmfs, and sighs. "Right." "Well, this is just going to be ugly. And I need to somehow chase down Wasyuu, as I don't know where she wants to be buried." She pauses. "Where Wasyuu wants Lian to be buried." Kanna rummages in her trump deck, and hands over a trump of Lady Funaho to Lily, then hesitates. "Do you already have a trump of Funaho?" She looks wry. Beowulf rubs his eyes. "I was afraid of that. Gabrielle seemed to think Lian would be buried in Amber, but didn't say who said that. I assumed she'd talked to you." Kanna mmms at that. "That's going to be a problem. As Wasyuu's headed off to get vengeance for Lian, ivolving a galaxy-sized matter/antimatter bomb." Lily says, "Well, other than Vector or Wasyuu's lab world, I'm not sure where else we'd bury Lian." She frowns. "No way to get hold of her father for the fun..." She stares at Kanna. "That sounds very ugly." Beowulf says, "If you want to track down Wasyuu..." He sighs. "Yes. And she's got her trump redirected to an answering machine." He hmms, then taps his Aeris badge. Beowulf asks, "Aeris?" Kanna shrugs, and hands the trump to Lily anyway. "Vector and Mechanus... I'm not sure what's going to happen with them. I need to see what would be in Lian's files." Kanna says, "and as for Uncle gideon.... noooo, I don't think gettign to him anytime soon will be feasable." Aeris says, "Yes, Daddy?" Beowulf hears this as he waits for Aeris to answer, and sighs. "No, I doubt we could reach him just now." Kanna says, "As much as mom would like to reach Avalon... for various and sundry reasons... we'll probably have to send a letter to him if certain Dread Pirates ever contact us." She looks pained at the thought. Beowulf gives the badge a little hug around the edges. "Hi, honey. I was wondering... is there some kind of Trump equivalent of a mail drop? Wasyuu sounds like she doesn't want to be interrupted this minute, but I'd like to get a message to her where she'll see it when she looks away from her work." Aeris says, "She's got her shadow trump blocked, so there's no way for me to get a message in, although I guess you could try sending her a messenger bird or something." Kanna frowns. "And aside from Pattern Telporting..." She purses her lips. "I could send one from Jade tonight, perhaps." Beowulf hmms, and looks at Lily. "I'm afraid I'm out of my league, here. Can you and Aeris put something like that together?" Lily calls up a small pile of black energy and shapes it into a bird, then whispers into its ear, and it flies away. She says, "There we go." Beowulf smiles at Lily, though there's still a bit of sadness lurking in his eyes. "Thank you, Lily." He puts an arm around her again. Kanna watches as the little Logrus Boid flies away. "Hope that'll work... I'll send something tonight as well, I think." Beowulf asks, "Well..." He rubs his forehead tiredly. "I suppose now we have to wait... how long do you think it'll be?" Kanna says, "I imagine it depends entirely on where exactly her Lab Shadow -is-... which to tell the truth, I never really learned." She looks embarrased, and then reaches over and squeezes Beowulf's shoulder. Beowulf smiles ruefully. "I think the only time I've ever been there was the one time we went there to..." He winces, and a tear trickles down his cheek. Lily says, "It's somewhere on the Amber side of things, I know that much." Kanna sighs, and moves to hug Beowulf. Okay, so she ends up hugging Lily too, but too heck with it. Lily says, "I just hope it's close enough for her to get it in a day or so." Lily continues, "As otherwise, she may have to miss the funeral." Lily says,"Which would be terrible." Beowulf nods. "Yes. And since we can't get to her shadow, and..." He sighs. "From what Kanna says, Mechanus is still rebuilding, we'll probably have to hold it here." Lily nods. "I will have to see about arranging a tomb and a casket. Well, the casket is largely symbolic with no body, but..." She sighs. Kanna nods, and sighs. "Sorry 'bout dropping it like this on you, Lily..." Beowulf nods. "I wasn't sure just what we would do about that. As somehow, if the... body still is being used as a puppet..." A little bit of horror dances at the back of his expression. "Yes. What can we do to help?" Kanna says, "I hold out hope... and perhaps, one day, that hope may be realized.. but the realist side in me puts other things as much more likelier." Lily says, "Well, if you could look into a nice tomb site and a casket..." She sighs. "I suppose Wasyuu may want to build the tomb herself." Kanna mmms at that. "Perhaps... perhaps something on Jade." Kanna says, "As both she and I spent a decent amount of time there, and thropan.... her lover... lives there." Kanna says, "And it would be unfair for him to have to trek here or through shadow to see it." Lily says, "Well, Wasyuu may not want to have to trek through shadow to get to her daughter's tomb." Beowulf sighs. "Yes, that might be a good place as well." He pinches the bridge of his nose. "With all these things still unsettled... perhaps it's too soon to try to plan it for the same day as Moriya's funeral." Lily says, "Yes, with only one day to go...that's too soon." Beowulf thinks about the burial issue. "I think... perhaps with Wasyuu's help, we could build a tomb that has entrances in both places? As it'd be appropriate for..." He chokes up. "An artificer's tomb." Kanna sighs. "If we can get to her... but yes. It would be.. appropriate." She sighs. ========= ========= Beowulf says, "OOC What was the last you saw? Only two or three lines since your lag message." Kanna OOCly last was me cursing the lag... looks like that connection's just slow or stalled, as I'm connecting from another sasami window just fine. Ah, there it unstalled a bit. Beowulf asks, "OOC Other lines came through, then?" Kanna says, "Yup, they did eventually." Beowulf OOCly nods. ========= ========= Kanna says, "And yes, Lily, you do have a point." She mmms. "This will give us a better window for contacting Vector, though, as well." Beowulf says, "We should probably make some sort of announcement at Moriya's funeral, though Unicorn knows what we should actually *say*, then hold the funeral when we get a chance to talk to everyone, instead of trying to throw together everything in a rush." Beowulf hmms. "Didn't I hear Gabrielle say once that there was some kind of Construct's Network? Perhaps one of them could contact Vector?" Kanna says, "Well, I've trumped there before, actually. And sis has the info online. I was thinking more visiting In Person for this." Lily nods. Gabrielle says, "I can always call Vector if you need me to." Beowulf nods. "I suppose so... as long as we're sure he hasn't closed off Mechanus, or something like that. Probably would be best to call ahead." Kanna nods. "We can hold a little bit on that.. but not much. After seeing thropan, I have a feeling my threshhold for running around will be worn out for today." She smiles wanly. Lily sighs. "Poor Thropan." Beowulf nods. "I didn't know him very well, but I liked and respected what I did know of him." Kanna sighs, and nods. "Yeah. At least she and he knew each other for ten years... but still... that's not enough. I know the Edge Guard will hang in there for him, and I will, of course.. but it's still gonna be hard." Beowulf says, "And Vector must be hurting as well. It can't be easy, losing the one who made you..." He clutches the Aeris badge convulsively, then looks into it. "We'll try to keep that day as far away as we can, honey. I always want to be there for you." Beowulf sighs. "Yes. I can't help thinking there ought to be something we can do for him... I don't know if he has any interest in visiting strange new places, or whether he'd want to run around with us for a while, or what, but... I feel so helpless without being able to do something." Lily says, "He may want to be away from things which would remind him of her. Or perhaps not. It's hard to know." Beowulf nods slowly. "I suppose so. The only way we can find out is to ask, though." Kanna rests a gentle hand on Beowulf's shoulder. "I... don't know. Vector's a bit different than other Constructs.. his central core was made by the Nomad Artifacers, but Lian was the one who tied him into the Broken Patterns of Mechanus, and..." She shrugs again. "I'd need to think back on what Lian said about him in my presence, try to figure out what'll happen." Beowulf nods to Kanna. "Aeris? Do you ever have much chance to talk to him, outside of business?" Aeris says, "Vector pretty much doesn't talk much about anything but business." Beowulf sighs. "Poor fellow. I guess Lian kept him pretty busy." ======= ======= You page, "(Okay, I know I've discussed lots of stuff about Vector/mechanus OOC with Chris/Lian via page... how well does that translate to what -Kanna- would know about all this? *wl* )" to Akemi. "Yes, I think that's the case." Kanna just nods, pensively. Beowulf asks, "I suppose we'd best head to Jade, then, if Lily can spare me for a few minutes of fasttime." He gives Lily a quick squeeze. "Unless you want to come along as well?" Lily says, "I'd best stay here and work on things." She kisses your cheek. "Have...well, good luck anyway." Kanna nods. "thanks, Lily. Take care, and hope things work out on the scheduling front." She hugs Lily breifly. Beowulf smiles sadly, then kisses her on the nose and tries for an impish grin. Which only partly succeeds, but... "Thank you, love." He turns to Kanna. "There is one more thing I want to do here..." He looks towards the main chapel. Kanna mmms? And then nods. "Of course," she murmurs. Beowulf nods somberly, then leads her into the chapel, and finds an empty pew. Priests bustle about, but they leave you to your prayers. Kanna follows, and waits for Beowulf to choose a pew and kneel before doing so herself. Beowulf kneels and bows his head. "I know... I haven't been a very religious man," he says softly. "And I still don't know why I'm supposed to be your Heir, or anything. But right now..." He stops, trying to think of things to say. Kanna just remains quiet, letting Bey find his own words at his own pace. Beowulf says, "Innocent people have died, and I haven't been able to save them." Soft music plays in the distance, as some acolyte plays a hymn on the organ. Beowulf says, "I... don't ask for anything for myself. I know I'll learn to live with it, in time. But if there's anything I can do to.. to save more, to ease the suffering of those left behind when I fail..." His voice chokes up. "Please, let me do it. I'm not asking for a sign or anything, I'm... I'm not sure what I'm asking." Kanna mmms quietly, and reaches over to squeeze Beowulf's shoulder, gently. Beowulf smiles ruefully. "I'm mostly confused. But I want to stop the hurting. I know we stand or fall on our own feet, and that we can't be propped up all our lives. I just want to feel like what I'm doing has had some good. That's all." Kanna smiles slightly. "Amen to that, Brother." Beowulf says, "I was down at the chapel of your counterpart, earlier today. I hope you don't mind, but... that poor girl... if there was anything I could say down there that would help her and those who loved her, I had to. And if there's anything you can do to help her soul... or Lian's, or Moriya's... please. Please, help them." Kanna nods, quietly. Beowulf says, "I don't know what else to say. Just... if you can help them, thank you. Take care." He smiles a bit. "I was a little envious of Jacqui meeting you, back when I was troubled and confused and searching you out, but... it was probably better this way. Thank you." Kanna quirks an eyebrow at that, but says nothing. Beowulf bows his head a moment more, then stands slowly up to leave, legs aching a bit more than when he did the same thing earlier today, then smiles at Kanna. "And thank you for bearing with me. Ready to go?" Kanna gets up. "Yup. I'll trump Ruka and see how he's doing, and then we'll go from there." ====================================== ====================================== Kanna OOCly says, "and actually, I think fork for tonight, as it be late. *wl*" Beowulf says, "OOC Ag. Sorry for stretching this out so long, then." Kanna OOCly no problems... 'sokay. the more chatting we do, the more time others have to catch up. *wl* Beowulf OOCly grins wryly. "Ayup." John says, "OOC HEh." John says, "OOC Well, I can run y'all more tomorrow" Kanna OOCly says, "Anyway, g'night, good whenever the two of you are in the evening... cool." Beowulf OOCly nods. "Works for me. How long d'ya think we'll run Wed., since it's not going to be over at the union?" Beowulf says, "OOC G'night, Phil. Sleep well." John says, "It'll depend on when Arthur needs to go home." John says, "And how long D and B can stay" Kanna OOCly hehs. "Wed, I'll prolly be running late, running around after work for comics and various purchases, etc." Kanna OOCly says, "So don't expect me then." Beowulf nods. "Right. Hopefully we'll find out if the courtesan could train our mage well enough -- whoops, wrong plan. :)" John says, "Heh." Kanna OOCly waves, and punts.
