************************************************************ Logging Started: 07/14/2001 at 19:56:46 ------------------------------------------------------------ You head on down the tunnel and come to a pair of huge bronze doors. There is a dragon head on one and the eye symbol on the other. Moriya patternsights the doors. The doors are full of bronzey goodness. Jacqueline patternsights the .... oh, wait, nevermind Moriya shakes his head. "No powers evident." Jacqueline says, "i need to learn how to do that...." They're also locked, but Ivan manages to unlock them. Beyond you find... Rimmer says, "I feel that we're getting close." Beowulf cocks an eyebrow, waiting as the doors open. Jacqueline feels a desperate need for heavy artillery as the doors open Moriya holds Withywindle ready. A huge banqueting hall. The walls are painted with frescoes which depict the baking of many kinds of foods, from cookies to deep-frying to some odd looking procedure that seems to involve exposing the food repeatedly to moonlight. Eight long tables are laid out next to each other with chairs, each table is covered with platters of food. It looks fresh and tastey, and smells great. Moriya now patternsights the interior of the room, food included. Jacqueline says, "this.... is too obvious." Rimmer says, "For once, I agree." Akemi pages, "You can both see the walls seem to be rigged to open in several concealed places, and there's a lot of small holes in the walls too, possibly for darts. no apparent trigger mechanism." to you and The_Prof. Jacqueline says, "nobody's stupid enough to actually eat this." She looks at her group warily. "Er, right?" Beowulf hmmms. "Yes. Might I suggest that people *not* eat the food?" he says with a chuckle. Ivan pauses with his hand on a donut. Moriya looks around. "Traps all over the place." Beowulf asks, "And watch out for the holes in the wall... darts or gas, perhaps?" Akemi pages, "Pattern sight says this room is full of no powers at all." to you. Rimmer says, "Only a fool eats perfectly preserved baked goods in a centuries old abode of evil." Moriya says, "The walls seemed rigged to open up in several places. Again, no powers, though." Jacqueline asks, "magic's still dead?" Moriya says, "I certainly don't detect any, although that rather leaves me at a loss to explain the food." Jacqueline tests with a minor, weak light spell. Beowulf hmmms again. "No obvious triggers... I wonder if this was a trapped hall set up by the Pharoah to entertain his enemies?" Jacqueline says, "I.... don't trust your senses. There has to be magic here somehow." Jacqueline says, "or these are really great cooks." Wakaba says, "It's possible that the magic sink has knocked out enchantments which previously kept these fresh." Jacqueline looks around. "Okay, ignoring the food, where do we go from here?" Trying magic yields nothing. There are, in fact, no obvious exits. Moriya says, "I suppose, although some of the party were thinking that this lack of magic was from another source." Rimmer intones, "They are filled with the fresh berry filling of evil, under the crispy, flakey crust of malevolence, lightly frosted with the sugary sprinkles of treachery. That is all we need know." Jacqueline peers under the table Ivan laughs. Moriya asks, "Mitsune, where does the spikard seem to be now?" Beowulf rolls a weight along the floor to see if it sets off any pressure traps, after warning everyone to duck. Careful examination of the cobblestone floor reveals that the leg of each table seems to be attached to the cobblestone it is on. Jacqueline frowns and examines the foodstuffs on the table cautiously. Anything stand out? A cake that reads 'eat me'? or a cup that says 'drink me'? Mitsune concentrates. Beowulf says, "It's always possible that the trap is set to go off when the table grows lighter." Beowulf shrugs. "Or, of course, it was supposed to work by magic, and isn't working without it." Jacqueline says, "in other words, we screwed ourselves." Moriya taps Withywindle's hilt. "I doubt there's much that stay between us and the spikard, if we're determined enough." Mitsune points towards a spot on the wall where ancient Nithians are making donuts. "Through there." Beowulf says, "Perhaps we should have brought Vash?" He smiles. Jacqueline asks, "okay, right, let's carefully carve a hole in the wall or something. or maybe we're supposed to press a donut into a notch somewheer?" Jacqueline looks at the table and frowns. "Dammit, now I got the munchies." Moonshade laughs. "I know what you mean." Jacqueline glances at Beowulf and Moriya. "Well?" Moriya looks at Beowulf. "You're more familiar with places like these." Ivan studies the wall there. "Ahah, here we go," he says. He pushes a stone in the wall, and a dozen panels open up along the walls. Each seems to open into a hallway full of mummies, who begin to advance. "IMHOTEP...." Jacqueline says, "aw dammit." Moriya says, "Erp." Beowulf rolls his eyes. "Ivan..." Rimmer exclaims, "Hah! Mummies! I laugh at mummies! HAHAHA!" Beowulf asks, "OOC About how many mummies can we estimate?" Ivan points past the mummies in front of him. "There you go, a hallway right the direction Mitsune pointed." John says, "OOC At least 72, 6 per hallway" Jacqueline asks, "okay, let's just go that way, yes?" Moriya says, "Yes, let's. Beowulf, you go in and deal with those. I'll take rear guard." Beowulf quickly arranges a defensive group to keep back the other mummies while he goes after the six in the direction they need to go. The mummies begin to stream into the room. Jacqueline exclaims, "go go go!" Moriya starts hacking up mummies. Okay, Beo, what you using for a weapon? The rest of your warriors spread out and start hacking. Rimmer gestures at the mummies "DANCE! CAPER FOR MY AMUSEMENT! And block the way of your fellow mummies in the process!" Several of the hallways get clogged up as the lead mummy begins dancing and capering. Jacqueline nudges the rest of the party into the proper hallway. Moriya starts to withdraw toward the indicated hallway. Rimmer retreats with the rest. Jacqueline draws baby Ilvig in sword form and advances down the hallway. Ivan is down there already, yes? Beowulf hacks at them with a machete. Ivan dances back, pointing at the mummy. "Big daddy Ivan says to go home!" Two of the mummies turn and run away. Rimmer says, "The undead may be evil and scary, but they do a great softshoe." Jacqui and Beowulf go after the mummies in the hallway you want to go down. You press them back; they can take a lot of punishment, but they don't fight as well as either of you. You manage to hack your way to the hallway, and clear it for the others to withdraw. What are you all going to do to keep the other mummies from following you down the hallway? Jacqueline asks, "aunt wakaba, we got magic back yet?" Beowulf asks, "OOC The hallway slope at all?" Rimmer says, "Anyone have any flaming oil? Mummies are even better than dry wood for barbecuing and cookout fires. And nothing says 'stop' like a blazing mummy barrier." John says, "OOC The hallway gently slopws upwards." Jacqueline tries to see if she can tap Benji for any magic and put down some grease. Wakaba says,"No magic." Beowulf says, "If someone's got the oil, we can set it ablaze easily enough, and it'll run downward onto them." Rimmer asks, "Who has oil?" Jacqueline says, "crap, no magic." Seta says, "Yes, and it will consume our oxygen supply nicely too." Jacqueline says, "okay, here's an idea. Moriya, you got a patternblade, trash the hall." Seta says, "As circulation doesn't seem to be too good here." Beowulf says, "Remember, we're probably going to have to come back through the hall, Jacqui." Jacqueline says, "aw crap." Moriya nods. "I could put down some rubble. And then clear it out when it have to leave." Rimmer says, "I don't like this guy. He keeps introducing logic." Seta says, "It's my job." Jacqueline says, "you guys figure it out, I wanna see what we gotta do next" Jacqueline looks around to see what their next option is Moriya says, "Alternately, we could just slaughter them all." Beowulf says, "Always a good point, though we'd need to keep folks on rearguard as we're moving." Rimmer says, "Hmm. Let some of them in the hall, then turn the lead ones. They can serve as our roadblock." Anna nods. "That would hold them for a while, given how tight it is here. Moriya says, "All right. Let's do it." He pauses. "You said you can only do this a limited number of times a day, right? Are you sure you can afford it? As there may be even more undead later on." Beowulf does a little Pattern manipulation to make the first batch of mummies get tangled together in their own bandages and block the hallway. Jacqueline sighs. "Rubble! zombiedance! something! We got armies tryin' to crash in here while we're talking, y'know...." Rimmer says, "I can only turn undead into my slaves three times a day. I can also make them run in terror or turn to ash three times a day. Anna and Ivan have their own limits." You now have a road-block of mummies behind you and can advance now. Beowulf says, "Let's go." Moriya blinks. "Okay, problem solved." Jacqueline says, "right, okay, zombiedance. let's boogie." You round a corner. There's a steep ramp ahead; it's covered with dozens of slugs. Pale, white, pasty slugs. Rimmer exclaims, "Nooooo!" Beowulf asks, "Steep going up or down?" Going up. Sorry. Rimmer exclaims, "Not them!" Moriya asks, "What are those?" Jacqueline says, "ewwwww" Beowulf looks at Rimmer. "They react much to acid?" Anna says, "What, you think it's wraith-slugs?" Rimmer shudders. "It might very well be. Let me check my Little Big Book of Necromancy." Moriya patternsights them again, what the hell. Jacqueline asks, "OOCly fast-moving slugs or just... there?" Beowulf says, "OOC Do the slugs have eyes that Jacqui can use to makepsychic contact with? :)" John says, "OOC If they have eyes, you can't make them out clearly enough. Right now, they just be hanging out." Jacqueline says, "okay.... nobody make any sudden movements.... the slugs don't seem to notice us." Patternsight says they are not creatures of Chaos or Order. Jacqueline asks, "Mister Rimmer, what are these things?" Moriya says, "Nothing special about them, in the way of powers." Moriya says, "Not of Chaos, not of order." Rimmer shuts his book. "Definitely Spinghastus Shadotherum, the Western Karameikian Wraith-Slug." Jacqueline asks, "and this is bad how?" Beowulf asks, "Wraith-slug? They're undead?" Anna sighs. "They suck out your life force, memories, and skills." Jacqueline asks, "they move fast?" Jacqueline twitches. "I'd kill for a frickin' flame thrower right about now...." Anna continues, "And if you die, you turn into one. They can fly at about six times the running speed of an ordinary human." Rimmer says, "If they touch you, they will drain the life, vitality, and memories from you until you are a withered husk. Also, they fly. Or at least the last one I saw did." Beowulf says, "And any move we make will have them coming down the slope. Lovely." He shakes his head ruefully. Jacqueline says, "oh. shit. they fly." Jacqueline tests out magic with a very dim light spell. "C'mon c'mon c'mon magic please please please." No magic. Moriya OOCly says, "What are the dimensions of the hallway, John?" John says, "OOC Eight feet tall, five foot wide." Jacqueline looks at Beowulf. "Okay, who's got the strongest Pattern power and can we ask them what the odds are of finding lots of flame throwers behind us?" Moriya says, "Let me try something." Rimmer says, "Well... we have a way to neutralize them, if only for a time." Beowulf says, "Probably Mother has the best Pattern abilities." Jacqueline looks at Rimmer. "You do?" Wakaba says, "Flamethrowers won't work in this shadow." Moriya tries to wall-climb by bracing his feet and hands against the opposing walls of the hallway. Jacqueline says, "aw crap." Rimmer says, "The Captain does. Brightsun." Jacqueline asks, "brightsun?" Gherman nods thoughtfully. Rimmer points to Mikhail's Happy Fun Sword. "It can generate pure sunlight." Jacqueline says, "what does that do? blind them briefly so we can surprise them and stomp on them like gra.... ah. " Jacqueline asks, "guessing they don't like sunlight?" Rimmer says, "It strips them of their powers and causses them to flee in terror." Mikhail says, "The sunlight lasts only a few minutes, so we will have to be swift." Moriya OOCly says, "Or maybe I don't." It is possible to wall-climb, Moriya. Jacqueline says, "if they flee in terror further down the passage where we have to go, this will get annoying." Beowulf says, "That's the unfortunate bit, yes." Beowulf asks, "How many times can you do the burst of sunlight a day?" Mikhail says, "Once." You page, "I've still got that trump-gate for sunlight, yes?" to Akemi. Jacqueline asks, "say, um, are there things that eat those slugs, and are they even worse than dealing with the slugs?" Akemi pages, "Yes, but Trump is blocked here." to you. You page, "It's also blocked? Crap." to Akemi. Rimmer says, "I don't want to meet anything that would eat a wraith-slug." Anna says, "There are no natural predators of Wraiths." Jacqueline says, "crap." Anna says, "Except for adventurers like us." Beowulf winces. "Not good. Hm. One thing I'd love to know is how close they can sense something. Moriya's idea of wall-climbing over them is good, but only if they don't notice him above them." Jacqueline asks, "okay.... how do you normally kill those things?" Rimmer thinks. "Maybe if we blessed a lot of salt..." Jacqueline asks, "the usu..... salt? do they get hurt by salt?" Rimmer says, "Usually we throw huge blasting spells into them." Ivan says, "They ought to have already swarmed all over us." Jacqueline exclaims, "aaagh! Should've grabbed the salt from the table back there!" You page, "Unfortunately, because of how high the cost is, Tim isn't going to be able to shell out for a spot in the the hotel rooms." to Aerianne. Rimmer says, "Well, salt affects normal slugs, perhaps holy salt would kill wraith-slugs." Beowulf nods to Ivan, then turns to Jacqui. "Salt, we can get fairly easily." Jacqueline says, "no, wait, we'd probably need large bags of salt....." Jacqueline pauses. Aerianne pages, "Ahwell. *nod* Well, I'll see who I can get from Jeff's." to you. Jacqueline says, "er" You page, "All righty." to Aerianne. Jacqueline says, "so we're not sure if salt would do it, and holy salt might just piss them off." Moriya OOCly says, "And how long does the hallway appear to be?" Rimmer says, "Basically." Jacqueline says, "Dammit, I'd kill for some magic right now." John says, "OOC IT's at least 60 feet up, which is far as your torchlight allows any useful vision. Slugs all the way up." Jacqueline asks, "if we got no magic because of the magic sinkhole.... how long does that spell last?" Jacqueline smacks her forehead. Moriya pauses. Wakaba says, "Several hours." Jacqueline asks, "Mitsune, can you shapeshift into living flame?" Moriya asks, "Mitsune, could you shapeshift us into small, swift flying creatures?" Jacqueline says, "woo, echo." She grins Mitsune says, "Yes and yes." Moriya chuckles. Moriya says, "Now, the question is if they could drain you even in flame form...." Moriya asks, "Mister Rimmer, how do they react to fire?" Jacqueline scratches her head. "OKay, can you shapeshift into a really huge flame that can wipe them out quick and- er, yeah, that" Anna says, "Yes, they could, though they'd probably be committing suicide in the process." Rimmer says, "Fire burns them real good." Moriya frowns. "But they still might be able to hurt her, in the process." Jacqueline says, "right, okay, so if Mitsune can become a really huge blanket of fire, we're good to go." Jacqueline says, "well, if she's living flame, I dunno....." Moriya says, "The lady Anna just said they could." Jacqueline says, "oh. nuts." Moriya asks, "Could one of our flyers at least go on ahead and scout out how far the slugs extend?" Jacqueline scratches her head. "Okay, alternative workaround, got any forms that can blast out large heaping gouts of flame?" Moriya says, "Don't forget what Seta-sensei said about the air circulation in here." Jacqueline says, "aw. crap." Jacqueline says, "We're being stopped by undead slugs. man, this is almost as stupid as that cockatrice thing...." Rimmer says, "Hmm. I would point something out." Jacqueline asks, "yeah?" Rimmer says, "Sunlight negates their powers. That includes flight. And slugs are not known for their high speeds on the ground." Jacqueline says, "okay.... so we do the sunlight thing, fly over them, get the heck out" Jacqueline asks, "OOCly how big is the passageway? how tall? I.e. how close to the floor are we going to be skimming it?" Haruka says, "So we could stomp them to death while they were powerless." John says, "OOC Eight feet tall, five feet wide." Rimmer says, "Yes, we could, if we were fast enough." Jacqueline stares at the mass. "Um, we'd need to do a lot of stomping fast." Rimmer says, "We have 24 people, for lots of stomping action." Jacqueline says, "well, okay." Jacqueline says, "if the locals think we can do some serious stomping, I'm cool with that" Moriya says, "Let's see how far ahead they go first, before trying it. It wouldn't be good for the sword's sunlight to cut out when we were still in the middle of them." Rimmer says, "Also, I have holy water to pour as we stomp." Anna says, "Anyone flying over them would likely be swarmed by the lot of them and die horribly." Jacqueline says, "..." Beowulf says, "OOC All right... If someone can wall-climb, though, Bey can use the whip to grab them back if the slugs start." Rimmer says, "What Anna said." Moriya frowns. Jacqueline asks, "say, um, okay, okay, here's an idea. Mitsune, can you make blood creatures?" Jacqueline asks, "maybe make a fast little insect to zoom up there, scope it out, come back on down?" Jacqueline says, "and if the slugs start rolling, we do some flash-light curbstomping" Mitsune says, "Worth a try." Mitsune creates a firefly. It zips up the hallway. It never comes back. Beowulf asks, "OOC Could we see what happened to it?" It flew out of the light of your torches and was never seen again. Beowulf asks, "OOC Or, what point did it pass out of sight?" Jacqueline says, "well, crap." Jacqueline says, "don't make a firefly, I think they notice the light." Mitsune tries a spider and a regular fly. Theynever come back either. Beowulf asks, "OOC Hm. And they still aren't noticing us and our torch-lights?" Rimmer says, "They notice the life. Undead don't care about normal light." Jacqueline cringes. "This is gonna hurt." John says, "OOC They still seem to be uncaring of your current position." Beowulf asks, "What is it about life that they notice?" Anna says, "The being alive part." Jacqueline says, "the life part, probably." Rimmer says, "That it exists, alive where they are not. Then they take steps to rectify the situation." Anna says, "It's a mystic sense." Beowulf asks, "Yes, but is it the heat, the breathing, the soul? In other words, anything we can shield?" Jacqueline says, "alright, let's try this. Mitsune, make a little living fireball. let's see if that makes it through and back." Anna says, "I'm afraid the precise factor is unknown, and without magic, I don't think we can shield anything. Rimmer says, "It's just general aliveness. You can shield it, but you need magic for that." Jacqueline says, "this fails, we might as well pray and do some curbstomping" Beowulf hmmms. "Crazy idea -- how many flies/insects could you make, Mitsune? If we send in enough, could we swamp them and get through while they're distracted?" Jacqueline glances at Moriya. "Unless someone here wants to start hacking down walls to see if we can work around. I doubt it, though." Jacqueline stares at Beowulf. "That sounds like a bad idea." Moriya shakes his head. "That's not an idea that appeals to me, particularly." Rimmer says, "Uh, no, Mr. Beowulf." Beowulf shrugs. "I said it was crazy." Jacqueline asks, "let's toss out a suicidal little fireball and take it from there. everyone ready to mess up their good shoes?" Rimmer says, "You were right. They'd go for the sentient beings first, and even if they didn't, there's hundreds of them." Mitsune tries making a little fireball. Sadly, it can't fly. It rolls up to the slugs. The lead slug lashes out and attacks it. It burns that slug, but the slug eats it. Beowulf grins. "Or what there is of them, yes." Jacqueline says, "okay. let's curbstomp." Moriya says, "Wait." Jacqueline asks, "what?" Moriya asks, "Who here is not a fast runner?" Jacqueline scratches her head. "Not me, I got lotsa practice running..." Seta says, "Carving a detour would be slow, but viable, I think." Beowulf asks, "OOC Did the slug die, or just get hurt by the fire?" John says, "OOC It just got hurt." Rimmer asks, "How slow?" Mitsune says, "I'm afraid I don't have infinite blood to give to making creatures." Jacqueline says, "knowing our luck, we'll carve our way into the big pit of slugs" Moriya holds up Withywindle. "This is very good at cutting through things, so hopefully, not that slow." Rimmer says, "Well, I'm open to detour-making, as I do not like Wraith-slugs." Seta says, "Depends on how big a detour we need to make, and how fast our weapons can carve. Maybe an hour or two?" Beowulf asks, "OOC How long do I think our mummy barrier will last, back there?" Moriya says, "Anyway. For those of us that aren't so good at running, I thought that perhaps Mitsune could shapeshift them into small creatures to be carried by those of us who are faster." Rimmer says, "Oh, that's not so bad. As long as it isn't days." John says, "OOC IT doesn't sound like the mummies are struggling, so they may have ceased to detect you and gone hibernating again." Beowulf OOCly nods. Rimmer says, "Let's carve. If I doesn't work, then we can run." Moriya says, "Well, if it's only an hour or two, I think we should give that a try." Jacqueline scowls. Jacqueline says, "what the heck, it's just an hour or two....." Moriya turns to Moonshade. "Would you kindly lend your strength again, Cousin?" Moonshade nods and goes to work. Beowulf says, "We will need to keep an eye out behind us, as we'll have a hoard of wraith-slugs back there, but at least we can roll stuff down on 'em if the hallway keeps sloping." Jacqueline keeps an eye on the slug hoard while they hack and slash It takes three hours to dig a bypass, and now the hallway behind you is clogged with the rubble; it'll be slow going back that way. You finally end up on the ramp, above the wraith-slugs. There's a pair of bronze doors another sixty feet up. Rimmer says, "I'm gettin' real tired of these punk-ass doors." Moriya does another patternsight, yay. Jacqueline says, "you'n me both, Mister Rimmer." The doors hang out, being locked normal doors. Moriya says, "Just normal locked doors again." Jacqueline says, "let's see what's behind door number three." Beowulf shrugs. "Shall we? Ivan?" Rimmer says, "Ivan, your scene." Jacqueline draws out Ilvig again, just in case. Ivan goes up, unlocks the doors, and opens them. Beyond the doors, the hallway continues to slope upwards. Jacqueline tests out magic while she's at it, what the hey. Beowulf leads them up the hallway. You head further up. Then you hear a single note sound up ahead of you, and the sound of stone grinding on stone. Beowulf asks, "Boulder or wall?" A note sounds off down the slope out of sight. Moriya says, "A trap, no doubt. Damn." Beowulf runs up the corridor to see what's making the stone noise. Beowulf says, "OOC ready to turn and run back if it's something comeing our way. :)" Hey, look, kids, it's a five foot across boulder rolling at high speed! It bumps off the side walls a lot as it rolls down towards you. Moriya exclaims, "...head back! To the tunnel we carved! Let this thing crush the slugs!" You hear a sort of buzzing noise down the slope. Beowulf nods and runs. Beowulf says, "Uh-oh." Rimmer asks, "Uh-oh?" Moriya OOCly says, "Or...are the dimensions of this hallway the same as the one before, where the slugs are?" Jacqueline says, "Aw Fuck." Beowulf says, "Buzzing from below, probably slugs coming up." Jacqueline tries to herd a party of 24 back into the passageway they carved... unless there's slugs in there too. John says, "OOC Hallway is slightly over 5 foot wide, and eight foot high." Beowulf says, "OOC Leaving 3 feet underneath it, if we can get it to bounce over us." Moriya climbs up the wall to the ceiling, bracing him against the opposing walls. "If you can, follow my lead, else get back down to the tunnel." John says, "OOC The boulder isn't going to bounce up in the air long enough for it to go over everyone." Jacqueline exclaims, "okaaaay, back in the hole!" Moriya stabs Withywindle into the wall for a grip if need be. Jacqueline runs into the carved passageway first to make sure the slugs hadn't gotten in there. Ivan and Lara join Moriya up by the ceiling. Most of the CFRC takes off running full tilt. Rimmer joins Ivan, Lara, and Moriya. Jacqui sprints towards the carved passage. A swarm of hundreds of wraith-slugs have already reached that and are coming full tilt towards you. You also hear a grinding noise further down, now. Beowulf follows the others back. Beowulf asks, "OOC Can I shoot explosive paintballs over their heads from the higher vantage point?" John says, "OOC Yes, you can fire them into the swarm." John says, "OOC And take out quite a few, you think." Beowulf starts firing into the swarm. Beowulf asks, "OOC How long do I think I have until the boulder reaches us?" Beowulf opens fire. Those CFRCers with magic weapons begin hacking and slashing into the creatures. Yuo have maybe 10-15 seconds before the boulder reaches you. Rimmer winces from his position on the ceiling, and Turns the swarm. Beowulf quickly turns and fires a paintball at the boulder to see if they'll damage it. Jacqueline asks, "OOCly can I shapeshift to something small like, say, a firefly, and hide up with moriya? and where's shinobu anyway?" Anna begins turning them desperately. Wraith-slugs start to swarm all over some of your group. John says, "OOC You cuold try that, Jacqui." Beowulf asks, "OOC SHouldn't Mikhail be trying the sunblade about now?" Moriya OOCly says, "Most of the Amberites if not all should be able to do what I'm doing. Or, in a pinch, high jump over it. Five feet is easy for decent human athletes." You hear a really loud noise up the hallway, like stone slamming into stone very hard, then renewed grinding. Moriya grimaces "More boulders?" Mikhail tries using his blade's sunlight power. It doesn't work. Beowulf asks, "OOC Stone into stone, not explosive sounds?" John says, "OOC Sounds like aother boulder dropped into place up the hallway." Beowulf says, "OOC Great. More of 'em." Jacqueline says, "Shinobu! Retreat up here!" SHe shapeshifts into a firefly and joins Moriya up on the ceiling. Shinobu says, "If I run away...aaaaa....it'll just leave more people vulnerable to assault!" Rimmer asks, "Moriya! Can you cut niches in the walls for people to let the boulder pass them by?" Moriya tries doing so with Withywindle. Moriya OOCly says, "Drop down onto the ground for as long as I can to do that, then get back up." John says, "OOC You don't have time to cut niches large enough to save people, either. Not enough, anyway." Moriya OOCly says, "Frig." Beowulf asks, "OOC How about hauling 'em up with the whip?" John says, "OOC Please keep in mind that people who are wall-climbing to avoid boulders cannot defend themselves very well from wraith-slugs." Moriya OOCly says, "Didn't think they'd reached us already." John says, "OOC I'm talking to Beowulf, who wanted to pull people up to the ceiling." Beowulf asks, "OOC Bloody Hell. x.x About how many wraith-slugs can I take down?" Jacqueline asks, "OOCly okay, here's a plan. The war gods mostly keep the slugs at bay. moonsahde does her MOONSHADE SMASH thing on the boulders. sounds good?" John asks, "OOC You won't know until you try. Are you going to blaze away with your explosive paint balls? " Beowulf says, "OOC If they're gonna be more effective than the monomolec whip, yup." John says, "OOC Since they have area affect, yes. As you don't really have room in a narrow hallway to use the whip very well." Moriya asks, "Rimmer, can you pound a hole in the ground large enough to catch the forthcoming boulder?" Beowulf blazes away at the wraith-slugs again. Moriya says, "After the first one passes us by." Rimmer says, "Yeah, but it would take a while." Rimmer says, "I really wish I still had a Dig charge." Gherman says, "Assuming it'd work with no magic." Rimmer snaps his fingers, and slams and bars the bronze doors. "That ought to at least slow the boulder." Moriya OOCly says, "Wait. Are the others beyond the bronze doors?" John says, "OOC Yes, most of your group is below the bronze doors." Moriya OOCly says, "You sure you want to block their way back up to us, Mike?" Jacqueline, seeing the party jammed in their current location, shapeshifts back normal, draws Ilvig and fights along with the others to hold the slugs at bay. Still mindshifted to Shaft. Rimmer OOCly says, "Yes. If it stops the boulder, I'll move it to one side and open them again. And if it doesn't, well, it won't be blocking their way, not will it? :)" Moriya OOCly says, "Heh. Okay. Just remember there's more boulders coming." Rimmer says, "One massive rock at a time." Damasq says, "OOC: So have Rimmer pick up the stopped boulder and toss it back at any more. :)" A fair number of wraith-slugs get blown to bits by Beowulf. The cramped quarters of the hallway don't make fighting wraith-slugs any easier. Moonshade decides to try Jacqui's advice and see if she can stop or slow the boulder which is about to hit behind you. The magically inclined of your group are having the worst of this fight, as most of them aren't exactly great with weapons. Moonshade manages to stop the first boulder, at the cost of being bashed pretty hard. And the doors catch the second one. Rimmer exclaims, "Come on!" Beowulf asks, "OOC Can the magical types retreat behind the fighter types while we try to mow down more slugs?" Rimmer moves the boulder aside and opens the doors. Jacqueline says, "OOCLy i take it that means we got room to retreat? n.n;;;;;" Moriya exclaims, "Hurry up! We'll roll the boulders down at the slugs once you get past!" John says, "OOC The strong people can heft the boulder and hold it in place for people to climb over." Jacqueline exclaims, "Mages back first! Sword people, cover us! Everyone, RETREAT!" John says, "OOC There is, unfortunately, nowhere good to move it to in order to get it out of the way." Moriya OOCly says, "Any more boulders after the second one that we can hear?" Beowulf keeps laying down covering fire while the mages retreat. You don't hear any boulders coming. Moriya drops to the ground and heads down to help hold off the slugs. Jacqueline desperately tries a Breaking Point spell Some of you pale and confused, others feeling weak, and some just pissed off, you manage to retreat back and slam the door in the face of the slugs. Moriya OOCly says, "Wheeeeeew. That was a lot harder than it should have been. x.x;" Jacqueline looks around to see who's injured and how badly Beowulf says, "Rimmer! Check everyone out and make sure they haven't been drained too much." Beowulf says, "OOC Ayup. x.x" Jacqueline goes to Moonshade's side. "Sis! Hey, you alright?" Rimmer exclaims, "Damnit, Beowulf, I'm a necromancer, not a cleric!" Moonshade says, "I feel like shit." Anna goes person to person. Beowulf smiles at Rimmer. "If you insist, McCoy." Jacqueline says, "hey, it'll be alright, sis, you'll see. MEDIC!" Keitaro, Lily, Gherman, Wakaba, and Sal seem to be worst off. The rest of you only got clipped once or twice, usually, and feel a little weak. Rimmer exclaims, "Bloody rolling boulders! I KNEW there were gonna be rolling boulders!" Moriya frowns, and tries a petty-level Flash spell using his own life force to power it. Nothing happens. Jacqueline asks, "anyone got any power word burst of life?" Moriya says, "Something must be actively draining magic, rather than just blocking its production, then." Wakaba sighs. "The magic sinkhole eats all magic use. If that's what's working here." Rimmer says, "We'd best forge on. I get the feeling that we'll be low on spells til then." Moriya nods. "Let's go on." Moriya pauses. "Mitsune, shapeshift the people who got drained worse than the others into small forms that the rest of us can carry. They can rest at least a little bit that way." Beowulf says, "Seems like there's a trap after each set of doors... and if we don't deal with it, it gets set off by the next trap anyway." Mitsune nods and does so. Jacqueline says, "okay. let's go CAREFULLY examine the next set'a doors, then" Beowulf asks, "OOC Did I see anything that might have set off the trap?" Jacqueline shrugs. "Maybe, I dunno, hack a hole through a door instead of open it?" Beowulf smiles crookedly at Jacqui. "The thought has merit." John says, "OOC Nope, you didn't." Beowulf asks, "OOC From my temple experience... if there wasn't a visible trigger, and magic is being eaten, what else could be setting 'em off?" John says, "OOC It could be the trap was too well made for you to sense it." Jacqueline looks ahead to the next set of doors. What we looking at now? You go upwards. You pass under a shaft which may be where the boulders drop down from. Jacqueline looks up at the shaft, wondering if it leads anywhere interesting The shaft rises up out of sight. and the doors hang out, being doors. Jacqueline thinks about it. "Nah, with our luck, there'll be boulder-pushing mummies up there." Ivan checks them out. "Well, I don't see any traps. Want me to open them?" Jacqueline says, "okay.... DON'T open the door yet" Rimmer asks, "Hmm?" Jacqueline asks, "can we, like, hack through the walls on the side or something?" Jacqueline asks, "or, hell, I dunno, hack a hole in the door?" Moonshade says, "With Moriya's sword, I'd think so." Rimmer asks, "Ah, you think opning them may trigger the trap?" Beowulf says, "It's a thought, yes. Not sure how likely it is, but it's certainly possible." Jacqueline sighs. "And is there _nothing_ on the doors that gives us any clues?" Rimmer says, "Presumably, Ivan checks for that kind of thing." Ivan says, "I don't see any traps from this side, and I sort of lack magic vision to the see the other side." Jacqueline asks, "OOCly i assume it's the same - eye on door, dragon on the other?" John says, "OOC Yes." You page, "John, assume that Moriya is patternsighting as he goes along, instead of me having to pose it every time we hit a juncture." to Akemi. Jacqueline pokes at the eye curiously Akemi pages, "The doro is full of bronzey goodness." to you. You page, "Gotcha." to Akemi. Rimmer says, "Still, a quick tunnel would probably work." Moriya says, "Let's try that." Beowulf nods. Jacqueline says, "and behind the next door will probably be some freak with a dragon staff to cave all our skulls in....." John asks, "OOC Going to carve through the doors or around it?" Jacqueline asks, "OOCly it's been hours since we set off the magic sinkhole, right?" Moriya OOCly says, "Around, I think." Jacqueline says, "OOCLy and magic's still not working" John says, "OOC Yes, it has been. Magic still out." Jacqueline says, "OOCly around it is, then. seemed to work decently the last time" Beowulf says, "OOC Except for being caught by the wraith-slugs when we set off the next one. ^_-;;" Jacqueline says, "hey, um, Moriya? watch where you hack. Might be some trap mechanisms in the wall or something, I dunno." Moriya nods. "I'll be very careful." You hack your way around the door. It goes pretty quickly. As you do so, you find several metal chains running through the walls, possibly from some mechanism connected to the doors. Jacqueline says, "whoaaaa" Moriya smiles grimly. "Ah. So that seems to be the case." Rimmer exclaims, "Aha!" Beowulf nods. "Makes sense." Moriya cuts around them with great care. Jacqueline says, "right. okay. NOBODY trip on the chains" Beowulf NODS. Rimmer exclaims, "Onward!" Beowulf says, "OOC Keep an eye out as we go for something that might be the trap." Jacqueline says, "okay.... very carefully.... next door." You manage to bypass the chains and hack your way into a large room. The room is about a sixty foot cube, and in the center, on a dias, is a large sarcophagus. Beowulf asks, "OOC Did we see anything that might have been the trap in the last corridor?" the walls show the many evil deeds of the Black Pharoah. Rimmer says, "The lair of e-ville." Moriya asks, "Mitsune, check for the spikard's location, please?" John says, "OOC Unless maybe something comes down that shaft you left behind you, not really." Jacqueline eyes the sarcophagus with uneasiness, disgust, and general fear. "_Aw_Fuck_. OKay, everybody, weapons out." Beowulf says, "Ah, yes, our friend to play with." Jacqueline draws Ilvig out again. Rimmer says, "I want a word with this guy about his hallway decor." Beowulf asks, "OOC Anything up on the ceiling?" The ceiling is just a high ceiling. Mitsune points at the sarchophagus. "In there." Jacqueline facepalms. "WHY?!" Beowulf smiles ruefully. "Somehow, I'm not surprised." Moriya nods. "Good, at least we're finally here. Just a question of, well...what else is inside with it." Rimmer twitches. "This is it then, lads." Jacqueline says, "Waitwaitwait. The DRAGON spikard is in there?" Mitsune says, "Well, that's what my senses tell me." Moriya says, "Let me check as well." Jacqueline asks, "is that magic sinkhole gonna be able to hold off a spikard?" She says, "Those with Pattern might wish to check." Beowulf says, "Interesting that it should end up here." Moriya uses Pattern to try to locate the spikard also. Jacqueline briefly tests out magic Moriya feels it is in the sarcophagus. Beowulf does a quick Pattern check for the spikard as well. So does Beowulf. Moriya says, "I sense the Dragon Spikard inside, yes." Jacqueline says, "cos if this guy can still use magic and we can't, we're screwed." Jacqueline says, "well, hurtin, anyway" Moriya waves Withywindle. "Only if he can get past a spellbreaker." Rimmer says, "Oh, let's just kill him again and get it over with." Jacqueline says, "I remind you, beloved cousin, of the golem thing." Moriya says, "Assuming we don't hit him before he can squeeze off a spell, anyway." Rimmer says, "Maybe my third World of Command will work on him, though I am not optimistic." Beowulf says, "I don't think the spikard would be able to get through the sinkhole, since we used one to isolate the Lion spikard at CAFAM." Moriya shrugs. "Let's see." Utena looks thoughtful. Damasq says, "OOC: Just get a box full of glue prepared..." Moriya OOCly grins. Moriya asks, "Something occurs to you, Aunt Utena?" Anna says, "I can probably turn him, I hope." Rimmer hms. Rimmer says, "I already know the answer, but..." Beowulf does a quick probability shift to find some oil flasks he might have left in his pockets, and hands them out. You all arm yourself with oil. Utena says, "I have a bad feeling." Rimmer sighs and nods. "Yup, there's undead in there." Moriya winces. "Ah." Beowulf asks, "OOC Claw of the Dragon is the one that's supposed to emphasize fighting, right?" Utena says, "I suggest we fan out, around it." Rimmer says, "I don't have a great feeling either, but given that we're about to pry the lid off the tomb of the evil undead asskicker of Nithia, that's not a surprise." Moriya nods. "And everyone can look out for what's behind the person across from you, just in case." Beowulf says, "Good ideas, both of you." John says, "OOC Claw is useful for magics which break and destroy things" Jacqueline asks, "OOCly in this room does there seem to be things that might pop up and open nasty surprises?" Jacqueline says, "OOCly it IS? ooooh :)" Moriya OOCly says, "Oh, man. x.x Jacqui with this thing does not encourage me." John says, "OOC There is no obvious location for anything to pop up. Searching the room doesn't reveal any secret doors you can find." Jacqueline says, "OOCly i'll trade it for the spikard that makes chicks gasp and turn lesbian ;)" You page, "Oh, and I patternsight the sarcophagus." to Akemi. Utena closes her eyes and concentrates for a minute, then opens them. Rimmer gets back a ways, so he can attempt to command or turn uninteruptted. Beowulf asks, "What can you think of, Aunt?" Akemi pages, "There's something funny about the sarcophagus, but you aren't quite sure what." to you. Jacqueline holds her sword ready and takes a deep breath Moriya says, "...there's something strange about the sarcophagus, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it is." Moriya pauses. "Wait. This fellow might be an Outsider Herald, right?" He fishes out his stock of Elder seals. Beowulf makes sure his Elder Seal Pendant is on his neck and ready, and makes sure Jacqui and Lily have theirs on as well. Utena pokes Wakaba. "Take a look at it, won't you?" Jacqueline looks around warily. This is, in her past experience, where the Other Person would break into the scene and fry her Wakaba, who is still something small and portable, concentrates. Wakaba says, "Something's been done to this sarcophagus...I think it's been molded with Pattern." Jacqueline says, "well now, that's interesting." Moriya blinks. "With Pattern?" Beowulf asks, "Molded to seal in something nasty?" Rimmer asks, "Pattern's that thing you guys worship, right?" Moriya says, "In a manner of speaking." Wakaba says, "Not a seal." Moriya asks, "A trap?" Beowulf hmmms. "What, then?" Wakaba continues, "I think it's intended to prevent something inside it being sensed. Or maybe..." Beowulf thinks back to Ebenscrux and what they found when they checked out the remains of the Gaunt Man's construct. "Or a hole into Outside?" Rimmer says, "If so, it doesn't work very well. I can feel the undead in there." Jacqueline says, "Sonova...." Jacqueline says, "so if we open this thing, it might be a big gateway to the Outsiders" Moriya looks at his handful of Elder seals. "I hope these would be enough to take care of that, but I have my doubts." Rimmer twitches. Wakaba's eyes open. Jacqueline asks, "er?" Beowulf asks, "It's only a possibility, but... Mother?" Then Wakaba looks very angry. Jacqueline says, "er...." Moriya sweats. "What? What is it?" Beowulf gets the Elder Sign pendant ready to put around Mother's, er, shape if necessary. Wakaba says, "I think we may..." Jacqueline asks, "..... may?" At this point, the sarcophagus opens and a glowing skull rises up. Jacqueline exclaims, "Ohfuck!" It has gemstone eyes and teeth. Jacqueline exclaims, "Poetry! Sic'em!" Anna whispers, "Shit." Moriya exclaims, "A Soulstealer!" Rimmer exclaims, "Worse! Demi-Lich!" Rimmer frantically attempts to command his second Demi-Lich, and to run like hell if it fails. It laughs at Rimmer's pathetic powers. Rimmer says, "Oh, shit." Utena gives a great shout and plunges at the creature sword forward Beowulf tries slashing at it with the monomolecular whip. Moriya darts forward to attack in coordination with the others. It tries to turn to face her, and gets hit by the whip and by Utena's sword. And by Withywindle too. It shatters Moriya asks, "Anything else in the sarcophagus?" There are five small boxes in the sarcophagus. Beowulf asks, "OOC Any sign of anything coming out of its remains?" Moriya eyes the remains of the demi-lich. "Okay, that was quick." No signs of anything coming up. Rimmer exclaims, "l3wt!" Beowulf asks, "What were you about to say, Mother?" Jacqueline rushes up to peer into the sarcophagus nervously Jacqueline says, "okay. right. the boxes are traps, aren't they." Beowulf says, "Don't touch anything... they probably are." Moriya says, "It's very possible." He patternsights the interior of the sarcophagus now. Wakaba says, "I have a very strong suspicion we've been suckered." Jacqueline says, "...." Moriya twitches. Moriya says, "Pattern's been leading us here, though." Wakaba says, "Because there's no way some Outsider fortress would have things molded with Pattern in it." Jacqueline says, "......" Beowulf asks, "Oh. A Pattern-molded coffin to show signs of a Dragon spikard?" She continues,"And I rather doubt the Immortals of Mystara have Pattern." Jacqueline shakes her head. "Dammit, after all we went through...." Wakaba says, "Utena, please smash the boxes open." Beowulf asks, "Kuonji, perhaps?" Utena removes the five boxes. Jacqueline says, "why do I have a feeling I'm gonna cry" Four of them contain various kinds of jewelry. Moriya mutters darkly. Rimmer exclaims, "L3wt!" Jacqueline begins to twitch Jacqueline eyes the l3wt desperately for something looking like a spikard The fifth contains a rubber chicken Moriya says, "..." Jacqueline exclaims, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" The Rubber chicken when checked contains...something I'm gonig to email to all of you. Hold on a second. Jacqueline reads the note. "Oh. Shit. Again." Beowulf reads the note, and smiles ruefully. "Ah, yes. We should probably get out of here." You hear a rumbling noise above you. Jacqueline asks, "Can Aeris get us the heck outta here NOW?" Beowulf quickly checks the construct connections, but suspects they're still out. Wakaba says grimly, "Boulder. Feh." Wakaba says, "Utena, please carry me around the room." Moriya says, "That's it. No more spikard quests for me." Jacqueline asks, "I wanna kill someone. Can we go frag the freak with the dragon staff?" Utena carries Wakaba around the room. The rumbling noise stops. Beowulf asks, "Molded it away with Pattern, Mother?" Moriya says, "I agree with Jacqueline, though. Let's take a moment to thrash the fellow with the cane outside. I think we could all use some stress relief." Beowulf says, "Assuming we can get to him, yes." Wakaba says, her voice colder and angrier than usual, "I am not a happy camper." Beowulf looks worriedly at Wakaba. "Mother?" Moriya says, "Let's just get out of here. I am getting tired of tombs." Wakaba says, "Give me a minute, and I'll turn on magic, and we can carve our way out through the wall." Jacqueline asks, "boulder, yeah?" Jacqueline points upwards Wakaba says, "There is no boulder. I'm afraid the badly maintained trap malfunctioned." Jacqueline says, "oh, good, right" Jacqueline says, "Moriya, chop the wall. let's go mangle people" Jacqueline asks, "and, um, if they're feeling up to it, bring some of our people back to more normal form?" Beowulf shakes his head. "Perhaps next time I should stick to him and drink tea." Moriya says, "We may be inside the heart of the pyramid, Jacqueline. It would take a long time for me to hack my way out." Beowulf says, "We're probably up at or near the top." Jacqueline says, "in that case, chopp" Wakaba says, "Trust me, we'll be out soon, Moriya." Moriya says, "Let's let Aunt Wakaba turn on magic first." Moriya says, "And then we can unleash several mountains of enraged whoopass on some people." Jacqueline says, "might as well get benji cooking on an Earthquake...." Jacqueline says, "soon as magic comes back" Moriya turns to Mitsune. "My dear, let's go to Chaos once we're out. I've had enough of spikards for a while. You can go meet Motoko's husband." Wakaba concentrates, and then she mutters a few words of magic. A light grows in her shrunken Palm (As she is still shrunken to portable size.) Beowulf asks, "Would an Earthquake work on something flying in the air?" Jacqueline mutters darkly about sticking to slaughtering Taylors Mitsune says, "I suggest we find Mr. Ukyou and shove his head up his ass." Beowulf asks, "Um, who turned the magic off?" Jacqueline says, "no, but if you recall we got like five armies out there waiting for us." Moriya asks, "Is your Bag working now, Uncle Beowulf?" Beowulf says, "True, Jacqui." Beowulf checks the bag. Wakaba says, "The tomb was built using local magics to render the last part of it an anti-magic zone. I just molded the spells away." The bag isn't working. Beowulf nods. "Not the Immortals, then?" Wakaba says, "If someone will perhaps carve the walls open like I asked, we'll get out much faster than if I have to sit here and turn everything on one by one." Jacqueline kills the time by hacking away at the rubber chicken very psychotically Jacqueline exclaims, "Yo! POETRY! CHOP!" Moriya nods. "All right." He starts carving up the wall. Wakaba says, "It may be the Immortals, using local magics. I would expect they would." Beowulf nods. "Right. Let's get outside, then, before we disturb them." Jacqueline asks, "hey, uncle beowulf, can you slap a magic sinkhole on a person?" Wakaba says, "At the moment, I'm hoping a few get mad and come down so Utena can cave their heads in for me." Jacqueline says, "I want you to slap it on that dragon staff guy so we can curbstomp'em" Beowulf says, "You can, I believe; unfortunately, I've used my only one." Jacqueline asks, "Lily's got another, right?" Beowulf nods. Utena says, "I'd rather not face more of them if I don't have to, Wakaba." Jacqueline says, "OOCly lily is a shrunken person now, isn't she" Beowulf says, "OOC Last I heard, yup." John says, "OOC She's plushie sized, yes." Jacqueline asks, "OOCly can she still cast it while plushie-sized?" Beowulf grins. "Anyone interested in sliding down the side of the pyramid when we get out?" Jacqueline says, "sure, count me in." Jacqueline asks, "maybe we should get ready to toss people in the bag to heal up quicklike once we get back in magicland, yeah?" Jacqueline says, "be nice to have everyone around when we curbstomp the locals" Lily says, "Yes, I have a sinkhole ready." Jacqueline says, "good, right. that freak shows his face when we get out there, sinhole his ass." Beowulf says, "Just remember, it also means we can't use spells to attack him." Jacqueline says, "that's what we got Moriya for." Moonshade says, "That's what good old fashioned swords are for." Jacqueline says, "and sis." Beowulf grins and shakes his head. "I see." Beowulf says, "Well, we'll see if I can't help tie him up a bit. Literally." He smiles again. Moriya hacks, and to his surprise, in only a few minutes, he finds himself hacking open the wall and looking out and we pause. Akemi pages, "So what IS what Moriya will do?" to you. You page, "Okay, don't tell anyone. :) He's going to kiss Motoko, if she lets him. Let this be a test. Will she really 'not mind' something like that? And it's also a test for Moriya, to see if he's able to do it. Not just any kiss, either, but one from Juri's book. The Kiss from a Rose." to Akemi. Moriya peers out through the hole. "All right, we have a way out. Let's work out some stress." Jacqueline peeks out with Moriya Rimmer waits for a good time to present the bill. Beowulf ponders ways to deflate Kuonji's ego a bit. Akemi pages, "HEH :)" to you. You page, "I've even figured out how the kiss works. Be prepared for a longish pose when it comes around. :)" to Akemi. Outside, there's a MASSIVE BATTLE raging Jacqueline says, "where's that blue-haired sonovabitch...." Jacqueline blinks. "And where's uncle Mo?" Half a dozen undead armies are going at it. Beowulf tries to analyze the battle from his position. There is no sign of Mr. Blue Staff. BLUE HAIR WITH STAFF Jacqueline asks, "Uncle Beowulf? check with aeris please?" Beowulf checks to see if Aeris can be reached now. Aeris pops out with the manifestation. "Uncle Morgy feels better now. He had a panic attack after a big evil star tried to eat his brain." Jacqueline says, "...." Moriya asks, "Do you know what happened to that blue-haired fellow afterward?" Beowulf says, "Hm. All right, then, I'm glad he's OK." The battlefield is strangely lit, with an odd greenish glow. Moriya patternsights the area. Beowulf's Mad Skillz tell him that eventually, the army of ceramic warriors will beat down the others, if nothing else changes. Beowulf asks, "OOC What are the various sides?" Jacqueline says, "shit." Rimmer looks indirectly at the sun. "That's odd." The sun seems to be glowing green, surrounded by thousands of tiny green pinpoints of light. Jacqueline sighs. Beowulf asks, "Evil sun... oh, crap. Outsiders attacking it?" The armies: Jacqueline taps her ring. "Benji, start cooking an earthquake spell. I wanna destroy this place." Ceramic Warriors. Scottish Zombies. Bronze Armor clad skeletons. A swarm of wraith-slugs (who are dying horribly). Rapidly dying vampires. And a few hapless Nithians. Beowulf asks, "Um, niece, let's not destroy the nice Immortals' playground, and the world that it's underlying?" Aeris passes the Morgy manifestation to Jacqui. "Here you go." Beowulf says, "I think our friend Dragon Cane is now up there attacking the sun." Beowulf asks, "Let's concentrate on that, shall we?" Jacqueline takes the ring. "Uncle Mo, you okay? Might want to do a system diagnostic to make sure." Moriya blinks. "He's up there? How is he doing that?" Moriya says, "Attacking the sun, I mean." Morgenstern says, "My brain hurts, but I'm fine." Jacqueline says, "oh, is that what he's doing? Okay. right. let's shoot him in the back." Rimmer says, "Okay. The sun seems to be surrounded by these weird-ass fire elementals." Beowulf asks, "I'm not sure -- but remember, Aeris said Morganstern was being attacked by an 'evil sun'? A.k.a. the blue-haired guy? And blue plus yellow sun=green?" Rimmer says, "But I'm pretty sure they and the sun should NOT be green." Jacqueline shifts Ilvig to crossbow form. "Hope this thing has the range." Anna says, "I'm going to cast commune and inform the Immortals." Moriya asks, "Shouldn't the resident Immortals be noticing this?" Moriya says, "Ah." Beowulf looks grimly at Moriya and Jacqui. "And there is an Outsider known as the Second Sun... Cthuga?" And now you can see the green dots streaking down towards your current position. Jacqueline says, "oh, great, they're heading towards us now." Rimmer says, "Okay, though I'd hope they'd NOTICE a little thing like the SUN turning, y'know, GREEN AND EVIL." Moriya sighs, and fishes out the Elder seals. "All right." He patternsights the approaching dots. Anna says, "Well, so would I, but it's best to be sure." Jacqueline says, "remind me that I don't wanna bring the jewel down here." Wakaba says, "You don't want to bring the Jewel down here." Rimmer asks, "Jewel? L3wt?" Jacqueline says, "thank you." Beowulf makes sure his Elder Sign pendant is still ready. "Moriya? You might want to give one of those to Mother, so she can do Pattern Defence to shut 'em out if they are Outsider-based." Moriya says, "Could someone cast some flight spells? I don't have any racked myself." Moriya nods, and hands over a few to Wakaba. Jacqueline says, "i can cast some, but you won't be much faster than running speed" Rimmer says, "We do have an entire pyramid to use for cover..." Moriya asks, "Let them come to us, then?" Jacqueline says, "I wonder how everyone would react if we told them the pyramid was empty." Wakaba says, "We need a source of water." Rimmer curses the fates once again that blastomatic sorcery doesn't work here. Jacqueline asks, "got a river in the bag, uncle beowulf?" Rimmer says, "How much water? We have a Decanter of Eldless Water." Jacqueline says, "Oh? Cool." Wakaba says, "How fast can it spit out water?" Beowulf nods to Rimmer. "That, and Aeris can do a gateway to a large plane of water." Rimmer says, "Fairly quickly, but in a limited stream." Rimmer says, "A large planar gate might be more efficient." Jacqueline looks at Beowulf. "Hey, I know, let's flood the place." Beowulf nods. "Aeris? Can you get a gate established to a shadow of endless water?" Wakaba says, "Good, make it erupt up in the air as they draw close." Beowulf asks, "Let's try and spray it *up* at the flying evil fire things, shall we?" Jacqueline says, "Lily, get ready to smack blueboy with the magic sinkhole." Jacqueline says, "if he's with them" Then Wakaba says, "No, wait, open the gate OVER them, so it rains down on them." Beowulf nods. "Right. Aeris?" Beowulf says, "You get 'em from below, Rimmer, I'll try and get 'em from above." Rimmer says, "Uh... okay, although my decanter don't spray that welll..." Lily nods to Jacqui. Rimmer gamely spritzes, looking somewhat embarrassed. Moriya tries to sense the relative location of the blue-haired guy with the staff using Pattern. Pattern says to go up to where the sun is. Jacqueline taps her ring. "Um, i know this'll sound like a stupid thing to ask a fire construct, uncle mo, but can you open a trump gate that'll dump lots of water?" Beowulf asks, "Better than nothing, I'm sure... actually, if magic is back on, can someone do a wind gust spell to splash it up?" Moriya says, "He's in the direction of the sun, apparently." Morgenstern laughs Jacqueline says, "yeah, that's what I thought. " Beowulf looks to see if Aeris has opened the trump gate yet. Moriya asks, "Kafuin, can you help out, as well?" Water begins raining down from above onto the onrushing green flame creatures. Jacqueline says, "well, that looks neat." Some of them dodge out of the way. Many get doused and hurt. Moriya OOCly says, "Does Patternsight tell me anything in particular about the flames?" John says, "OOC THey are full of Outsidery Goodness." Moriya says, "Yes, a lot of Outsider energy in them." Jacqueline says, "great." Beowulf says, "Ah, good, we get to destroy Outsiders again." Wakaba says, "Always a good thing." Moriya says, "Cheer up, Jacqueline. You get to engage in wanton destruction without me chiding you." Gherman tries a small spell to see if magic is working again. Jacqueline stares flatly at Moriya. "Very funny." the creatures continue to dive as your magi cast various defensive spells on themselves. Magic is in fact up. Rimmer has the look of a man who really wants to do something cool, but values his life too much to do it. Within the limits of what the Hollow World supports anyway. Moriya drops an AT Field on himself and prepares for the fight. Moriya OOCly says, "Oh, and has everyone who needed it gotten into the Bag and healed up?" Beowulf asks, "OOC Actually, is bag access back yet?" John asks, "OOC YEs. You want to let people pop in, heal and prepare?" Beowulf asks, "OOC Yup. How close are the flame creatures?" John says, "OOC They have miles to go" John says, "OOC So you have some time." Jacqueline says, "actually, I wouldn't mind wanton destruction, except the stupid magic here won't let me use big bang spells." Rimmer pops in, emerging with reenergized and revised spells racked. Jacqueline frowns. "Shit, I need a beer and a sauna after this." She pauses. "Shit, I've mindshifted to Dad a bit too long." Wakaba and Lily and Keitaro all pop in to change spells as well. Beowulf says, "OOC Enough time to pop in and conjure up a fire pump/hose to spray with? :)" John says, "OOC Yes." Beowulf pops in and conjures up the Mother of all Water Guns. :) Jacqueline says, "OOCly pattern fueled water gun, right? :)" Beowulf says, "OOC Ayup. :)" Rimmer says, "Gherman? Let's put a Prismatic Wall in their path when they get close." Gherman nods. Wakaba grins in a not very pleasant way. Wakaba begins casting. Clouds begin to rush in from the horizon in all directions. Rimmer exclaims, "Ah, Control Weather!" And then a fifty mile across Typhoon begins to pour down rain. The toughest of the fire creatures soldier on, but this is curtains for a lot of them. Moriya says, "...very nice, Aunt Wakaba." Beowulf pops out with a water gun that puts out fire-hose volume of Pattern-charged water. Moriya says, "Let's see if this gets Dragon-cane man's attention." Jacqueline casts AT-Field on herself Rimmer says, "Boy, Nithia's gonna remember this storm." Pause. "Not that the green sun and rain of fire wouldn't stick in there memories anyway." With the resources of your group, we can pretty much simplify things and note that you're going to slaughter the reamining creatures. Especially with Beowulf hosing things down with Pattern charged Water. : Jacqueline snorts. "Suckas." Anna says, "The immortals are attacking the Second Sun now." Moriya says, "Ah? Excellent." Beowulf frowns. "Will they need help?" Rimmer says, "Punk-ass flaming bitches. Huh, they are? Good." Rimmer pauses. Jacqueline looks up in the general direction of the sun. "YO! BLUE BOY! COME GET SOME!" Anna says, "They can handle him. But they ask we deal with the person who caused this." Rimmer asks, "Er, not to cast a damper on things, but are they gonna destroy the sun?" Moriya asks, "Do you know where he is?" Moriya says, "No, the Second Sun is something else. Not the Hollow World's sun." Anna says, "They made the sun. they'll make another one." Beowulf does a quick Pattern check for Blue-hair Boy. There is a pause, then a pop, and then Jacqui gets her head caved in by Mr. Blue Hair. Moriya OOCly says, "..." Jacqueline says, "OOCly .... " Jacqueline says, "OOCly even through the AT field, I guess o.o" Beowulf immediately turns the Pattern-Water gun on Mr. Blue Hair. Rimmer OOCly says, "Is he flying?" Spellbreakers...gotta love them. Moriya immediately starts attacking. Yes, he is flying. By now, I assume you're all flying. Jacqueline crumples to the ground, clutching her head. "Get out... get out..." She tries to raise Pattern Defense. Hopefully, she's still wearing her Outer Seal Rimmer points a key at him. "GROUNDED!" Jacqueline says, "OOCly say, wasn't lily supposed to...." Beowulf says, "OOC If we're all flying, that would be a Bad Idea." Jacqueline says, "OOCly dammit" Jacqueline cries weakly, "Aunt Wakaba... help...." The man laughs at Rimmer's key. He doesn't laugh so hard when Utena, Moriya, Naru, and Haruka close on him. Beowulf asks, "OOC Pattern-water have any affect on him?" Moriya hurls Elder seals as well as chainsaws with Withywindle. Rimmer snarls, and tries the Cobras of Wrath. Wakaba flies down and casts a healing spell on Jacqui's head. Mr. Blue Hair gets wet from the Water. Jacqueline says, "auntie... something.... invading my head...." It does douse the green flame which limns him. Wakaba aids Jacqui with her mind as best she can Beowulf asks, "OOC Is he close enough to try to grab the staff from him with the whip?" Mr. Blue Hair teleports out of the way of those closting in, except for Utena, who manages to give him a nasty cut across the chest before he blinks to about 300 feet away. Moriya drops a teleport to above and behind his location. Beowulf asks, "OOC Did that look like a teleport, or a Living Trump effect?" It left that fun trumpy shimmer. Moriya also shouts out Trump disrupts. Beowulf says, "OOC Damn." Rimmer pulls the magic missile wand and opens up full auto without waiting to see how the cobras do. You page, "And I could sense trump usage with Withywindle when he did that?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "Oddly, you didn't." to you. You page, "Aaaah." to Akemi. Moriya also does some magic negates too. Jacqueline asks, "OOCly am I recovered or is nasty outsidery shit still digging in my head?" Beowulf asks, "Aeris says it looks like Trump, but it isn't! Lily, Mitsune, any of you have those intelligent chasing lightning spells racked?" Wakaba continues to help Jacqui try to fight off the spell attacking her mind. Mitsune shakes her head. "Blasting magic doesn't work in the hollow world, Beowulf, so I didn't rack any." He begins casting a spell. Moriya blips behind him. Moriya whacks him hard. Moriya feels a spell lashing out at him. Going to use Pattern Defense? Moriya OOCly says, "...even before I can hit him?" John says, "OOC As you're swinging at him, yes." Jacqueline says, "OOCly go for the gold, maul the bitch :)" Moriya OOCly says, "Try to connect, then bring up defense." Rimmer, if the magic missiles and cobras fail to work, instead tries Precision Grease on the Dragon Cane. Beowulf sprays knockout paintballs in an area arc, trying to trap blue-hair with one even if he teleports. Moriya stabs into the man's back. He bleeds profusely from the nasty wound. Then Moriya vanishes. You page, "...d'oh. Where am I?" to Akemi. Akemi pages, "You're in a black misty void, falling towards some sort of amorphous horror." to you. You page, "Trump back to where I was with Withywindle." to Akemi. You page, "And whack him again." to Akemi. Blink, the man is behind Beowulf, cracking Beowulf upside the head. Blink, Moriya appears again. Moriya trumps back to where the man is, looking irritated. You page, "Or, if I can't trump precisely to that place, drop another teleport to below him and shove Withywindle into his crotch." to Akemi. Beowulf turns and grabs the man. He teleports, with Beowulf. Moriya appears just below where the man was. Utena looks very frustrated by all this. The man struggles with Beowulf desperately, teleporting about wildly. You page, "I watch for any sort of pattern to the teleportation, and try to catch him again." to Akemi. You page, "Careful not to hit Beowulf, of course." to Akemi. Beowulf tries to steer him closer to Moonshade and Moriya. "Help grapple him! Grab on to him and he can't get away." Jacqueline says, "b-benji.... help me..." Moriya tries several times to move in and intercept, but isn't having too much look. Rimmer forgets spells and tries the grapple thing too, as he does it well. Mitsune suddenly appears next to Beowulf and the man, in her fox-woman form. She joins in the grapple, also applying large fangs to the man's head. Moriya calls out, "Aunt Wakaba! Use the Elder seals I gave you to help Jacqueline!" Rimmer, you need a way to stop the man teleporting to get close enough to him to grapple. Rimmer OOCly says, "Dimension door, the wizard's friend. :)" Rimmer says, "Should get me right on top of him." Wakaba looks thoughtful, then says, "Moriya, if you will assist me?" Moriya flies down to Wakaba's side to help. Wakaba says, "If you can lend me you and Kafuin's assistance, I believe I can shatter this spell connecting Jacqui's mind to the Outsider." Moriya nods. "Kafuin, we need your help." Jacqueline says, "hnng...... IA! IA!.. shiiit......" The man goes limp, perhaps because Mitsune has chewed her way through his skull into his brain. Beowulf wrenches the staff away from him. And Rimmer DDoors to him. Jacqueline exclaims, "OOCly more! curbstomp him to a bloody pulp!" Kafuin links his power to that of Moriya and Wakaba. Wakaba then uses her Advanced Magic Negation on Jacqui. Rimmer hits him just on general principles, then disgustedly leaves. John says, "OOC The man kept teleporting too much, Mike." Jacqueline says, "OOCly and i'm just waiting to get psychichally unmangled :)" The spell on Jacqui shatters. Jacqueline says, "nnng...." Rimmer OOCly says, "That's why I chose autotarget spells, but no matter." Beowulf flies over to the group with Mitsune and the body. Jacqueline gets up slowly, woozy but infuriated. "Where.... wherezemuthafucka..." Moriya sighs. "Right." He looks up. "Get that staff contained and analyze it!" Beowulf says, "I think he's pretty well dead, Jacqui." Beowulf asks, "Lily, can you isolate the staff the same way you did the spikard?" Jacqueline says, "where... " she shakes her head. "Where's the dead body, I wanna stomp on it." Lily examines the staff. "It's a spell rack. And a powerful weapon, I think." Moriya patternsights the staff for Outsider energies. Beowulf drops the body. "Search it first." Mitsune resumes human form and washes out her mouth. Beowulf conjures up some of Mitsune's favorite drink for her. The staff is still full of lots of unused outsider Magics Jacqueline says, "Uncle Mo, still there? Gimmie a #40 mallet?" Mitsune says, "Thank you, Beowulf." Jacqui gets her mallet. Moriya says, "There is a lot of unused Outsider sorcery racked in that staff." Mitsune says, "Probably all racked by the Gaunt Man." Beowulf nods. "Any way of clearing it out, Lily, do you know?" Jacqueline caves in the guy's skull. Sure, it's too late, but hey. Moriya says, "It might be safe to use after we flush it out, but right now, seal it up." Lily seals it so the magic can't be used. Beowulf says, "Right." Jacqueline whacks at the man's skull again and again and again and again and again.... Lily says, "I can probably drain out the spells with a magic sinkhole. Moonshade says, "Me next, Jacqui." Moriya sighs, letting the adrenaline drain out, and goes over to Mitsune. "You did well, dear. I couldn't keep up with all his damn teleports." Jacqueline grins maniacally at Moonshade. "Why wait? Join in!" Mitsune says, "I trumped Beowulf, and then came through. Since Beowulf moved with him, it worked." Jacqueline exclaims, "Uncle Mo! A #40 mallet for my sister!" Beowulf shrugs. "It worked, that's good enough for me." Moriya chuckles. "Ah, I see." He kisses her on the cheek. "Should have thought of that myself." Jacqueline resumes converting skull to pulp Mitsune says, "Well, one source of evil removed!" Beowulf asks, "Mother? When we get a little time, could you check the staff over and see if it'll be safe to use once we clean out all the Outsider magics?" Jacqueline says, "Hey, anyone wanna search this guy's body? I wanna fry this guy's remains so nobody can resurrect him. Fucker." Wakaba says, "I will check it out, Beowulf." Beowulf says, "OOC If it can be made safe, maybe I'll have something to claim for once. :)" Rimmer watches the two berserk sister merrily malleting a corpse to pulp, and wonders why people get worried about _him_. Ivan holds up a book and a ring and some gold coins. "Already looted." Moriya OOCly says, "Heh. Well, you did get it. :)" Far below you, the ceramic army now holds the field. Jacqueline says, "right? no objections? Uncle Mo, turn this guy into ashes." Beowulf asks, "OOC Now that the main event has been taken care of, what does the ceramic army look like?" Jacqueline takes a moment to spit on the remains. Moriya looks at Ivan. "We'd like to examine the book and the ring, make sure that they aren't tainted with Outsider powers. The coins are yours to keep." Beowulf says, "Make sure the coins aren't tainted, too." Ivan says, "I have to say that this adventure has heavily sucked for loot." Beowulf asks, "Lily, did you recognize enough of any of those spells to tell if one of them explained how he could teleport around like that?" He passes over the book and the ring. Rimmer says, "Yeah. Then again, we are getting paid a large lump sum." Jacqueline twitches. Ring? Beowulf smiles at Ivan. "We'll make sure you get well-compensated." Lily says, "It's not something I'm familiar with." Moriya patternsights the items. Beowulf smiles ruefully at Lily. "Oh, well." The book is just a book. The ring is a spell rack. Jacqueline stalks over, dragging her bloodied mallet. "Did someone say 'ring'?" It also has Outsider magics in it. Moriya says, "The book...just a book. The ring is a spell rack." Jacqueline says, "damn. bastard." Moriya asks, "With Outsider magic in it. Lily, if you would kindly seal this as well?" Beowulf looks at the book. Um, it wouldn't happen to be that book of Outsider lore, would it? It's a diary. Moriya hands it to Beowulf to inspect. Beowulf looks through it. His name is Ancalgon. He served the Gaunt Man in shadow; when Gauntie died, Gauntie's staff passed to him. Mo atomizes Ancalgon Jacqueline grunts with approval as Ancalgon gets toasty. Moriya goes over to talk to Mitsune. Beowulf says, "He was the Gaunt Man's henchman; no wonder he hated you, Jacqui." Jacqueline says, "oh, yeah, great." You page, "This is where Moriya gently tries to persuade Mitsune not to bother with Kuonji. :)" to Akemi. Mitsune cuddles up to Moriya, tired. Jacqueline sits down in the sand and closes her eyes. The small physical hints of her being mindshifted to Shaft disappear. Moriya hugs her closely, murmuring to her. Lily sags. "I want to take a vacation. As soon as possible." Jacqueline faces the group. "Guys... I'm sorry we went through all this for nothing." Shinobu Minor says, "Yes, Vacation, good." Beowulf smiles. "I think we can manage something along those lines, Lily." Aerianne has arrived. Utena says, "Not entirely for nothing. We eliminated this fellow and recovered the Gaunt Man's staff." Beowulf shrugs. "Stuff happens. At least we got to knock off a nasty fellow here," Moriya looks up. "That's all right, Jacqueline. We did get the staff and remove another Outsider pawn." He then looks at Lily. "Well, I think the Keep is open for a fasttimed vacation. I'll have Kafuin get the hot springs ready." Beowulf smiles at Moriya. "The Keep's fine, or if you folks would like to pay a visit to Fibber McGee's closet?" "Piping hot and relaxing." Jacqueline says, "yeah... I guess... but the spikard got away and we don't even know if that was a candidate we flattened in there." Lily smiles. "I think we'll take a private vacation, Beo-kun." She smiles. Moriya quirks a smile. "I'm afraid I'm not too fond of your old radio shows, Uncle. I can't speak for anyone else, of course." Jacqueline says, "unless the local gods want a word with us, let's pay the CFRC what they're due and get out of here. I'm sick of this." Beowulf says, "If it wasn't, Kuonji probably took care of the candidate." His mouth twists. "He seems to like that sort of thing." Jacqueline settles back into sulk mode, dark brooding sulk variety. Beowulf smiles at Lily. "I... see." He turns back to Moriya. "I can understand, I suppose. A pity, but there you are." Mitsune pays the CFRC. Rimmer exclaims, "WAi! L3WT!" Mitsune says, "Beowulf, can you get these gentlement back to Glantri with Aeris' help?" Moriya tries to use Pattern to locate the Outsider Herald. You get the impression of such beings existing in several directions. Would you like to be more specific? Moriya OOCly says, "The one in Mystara." Pattern does not guide you to any such being. Moriya OOCly says, "Basically, trying to see if there's still one in the pyramid." Beowulf asks, "Shouldn't be any problem, Mitsune. Aeris?" Moriya says, "Well, I don't sense any more Heralds in this shadow." Aeris says, "No problem." She opens the CFRC a trump gate back to Glantri City. Jacqueline sighs. "Okay, let's get out of here then." Mitsune says, "Then let's blow this joint and hit the hot springs." Beowulf uses Pattern to check and see if the 'Black Pharoah' Outsider Herald can be detected. Moriya says, "Well. The Keep is open, as is Beowulf's Closet. Kafuin, bring me and Mitsune through...as well as anyone else who wants to join us." Jacqueline says, "well, if it's fasttimed, might as well." Beowulf gets the impression he's off through shadow somewhere. Beowulf says, "Um, well, Lily wanted something private... but there's more than enough room in the Closet for other folks to have fun." Moriya says, "Ah. Right. Sorry." He chuckles. Beowulf says, "...drat. Looks like the Black Pharoah wasn't this joker at all." Jacqueline groans Moriya sighs. "Ah well. We'll get him eventually." Beowulf nods. Haruka says, "I have to take Keitaro home for his mother to chew his head off. We'll be back in a few days, hopefully." Keitaro doesn't seem pleased by the prospect too much. Jacqueline says, "I'm taking advantage of cousin Moriya's offer of a hot springs in a fasttimd shadow, then I'm going home and throttling Taylors. It'll be a cold day in Ember before I wander throuhg a tomb again." Beowulf says, "Hey, make sure she understands I was the one who ended up running our half of the thing, so she should really chew me out first." Seta says, "Well, I'd like to see your shadow, Beowulf, so I think I will tag along and visit it a few days." Moriya says, "Come right along, Jacqui." Jacqueline looks at her usual band of co-horts. "Guys, coming?" Beowulf looks at Haruka. "You two need a ride?" Beowulf looks at the rest of the folks that came with Keitaro's party. "And the rest of you?" Naru looks thoughtful. "I think I'd like to see your shadow, uncle Beowulf." Jacqueline asks, "Auntie? Gramma? Sis? er.... Shinobu?" Shinobu, Wakaba, and Utena indicate they're going to the hot springs. And Moonshade too. Jacqueline nods. She gives Moriya a very, very, very tired smile. "Right behind you, Poetry." Beowulf nods to Naru. "Just don't let me catch you studying with Seta... we're supposed to be relaxing." He smiles tiredly. Moriya says, "Let's go, then." Naru says, "After all this, I just want to have a little fun." Moriya has Kafuin bring all those for a hot spring over to the Keep. Beowulf OOCly waves bye. "Sleep well, Phil." Jacqueline says, "OOCly and while I want to see if I can have a word with various members of the party later tonight, I must pause for now to drive home. OH, and please tell me we get a pittance amount of points for this disaster o.o" OOC Okay. I've run you guys for about 7 hours. Going to cut here, as I want to try to get Motoko caught up to y'all. Moriya OOCly says, "Right. :)" ------------------------------------------------------------ Logging Stopped: 07/15/2001 at 1:51:41 ************************************************************
