Parallel Lives Glossary and Notes Timeline: 1878: Early in this year, the War of Power is taking place in Randland. It lasts ten years (120 Ranmaland days). 1885: --1 AB. The Breaking of the World ends in Randland. More or less. 1973: Soun marries Ryoko Mizuno. 1975: Kasumi Tendo is born. Principal Kunou marries Aeka Mishima. 1976: Genma marries Nodoka Ayuzama. 1977: Nabiki and Kunou are born. 1978: Ranma and company are born 1994: Ranma arrives in Nerima and the madness begins :) In the Fall, at Ranma's Birthday party, Ukyou gets cursed by a pool Akemi made. So does Nabiki. 1995: The 'now' year in Ranmaland --Happousai is cured by the use of the Saint Point, but the demon Kinseius inside him possesses Ranma for a month; Ranma has to stay in his girl form to keep it supressed. Eventually, Akane, Ukyou, and Genma enter Ranma's mind and defeat it. Before this happens, Ryouga accidentally curses Akane with a bottle of curse cure water he brought back from Jyusenkyo. Later, some cursed bracelets cause serious problems and... April 26th: Ranma departs with a D-hopper to dispose of some cursed bracelets for Nabiki. April 27th: A month later by Ranma's time, he manages to toss the bracelets into the Crack of Doom. He tries to return home and finds himself lost across space and time. April 28th: After a month of wandering, Ranma ends up stranded in the Wheel of Time Universe. To his dismay, he ends up in the White Tower. --November 998 NE Ranma-chan meets Elayne, Nynaeave, Egwene, Min, and Alyssa. She becomes a Novice and utterly stuns the AS with the speed at which she learns to channel, once she learns to open herself to the Source, which she finds very hard. She also spends lots of time scrubbing in the kitchens. April 29th: --December 998 NE Ranma-chan rampages through the Tower after being put to work taking care of cats. Ryouga briefly finds himself at the gates of the Tower asking the way to Furinkan. April 30th: --January 999 NE May 1: --February 999 NE Alyssa washes out of the Tower deliberately. Two weeks later, Ranma-chan takes her accepted test. (Presiding sisters: Sheriam, Karla, Nene, and Kiruna) May 2: --March 999 NE Siuan Sanche sets Elayne, Nynaeve, Egwene, and Ranma- chan to hunting the Black Ajah. May 3: --April 999 NE Ranma-chan, Rand, and Moiraine battle Bel'al and Ishmael in the Stone. Ishmael dies by balefire. The Tower Coup. May 4: --May 999 NE Ranma-chan, Nynaeve, and Elayne depart for Tanchico. Rand and Egwene go to the Aiel Lands. May 5: --June 999 NE Rand is proclaimed the Cara'carn. The Shaido War begins May 6: --July 999 NE--Ranma is in Tarabon with Nyn and Elayne. His whacko friends come looking for him. They rescue him, but Akane is left stranded. May 7: Late on May 7, Ranma and company get back to their world; the magical accident causes them to have a brief span of lost time. --August 999 NE--Kaneda becomes the leader of a rag tag band of refugees and finally flees into the mountains of Amadicia with them. Kaneda kills fifty Whitecloaks with his first conscious use of the One Power. Events of Chapter 1. Day 1 of Chapter 2: (May 8, 1995) -Ranma and Akane encounter each other in the bathroom. Akane is strangely subdued. Ranma discovers Akane's curse is gone. After Akane panics during a Shampoo attack at the movies, he goes and talks to Dr. Tofu. --September 1-31 of 999 NY Randland -Alyssa and Kaneda figure out how to link. Day 2 of Chapter 2: (May 9, 1995) --Ranma talks to Ukyou. They try to figure out the D- hopper. --October of 999 NY Randland -Mai and Kaneda talk about Ranko. Kaneda learns how to make plants grow with the Power with Alyssa's help Day 3 of the Story (May 10th, 1995) --Ranma wakes up with Akane in his bed. Dr. Tofu drops by. --November of 999 NY Randland -Alyssa talks to Kaneda on a rooftop. The Autumn festival. Council meeting. Day 4 of the Story (May 11th, 1995) --Akane becomes sick. Dr. Tofu sends Ranma and Ukyou to find them. --December of 999 NY Randland -Whitecloaks and a force of the Prophet's men approach Castle Mist. Kaneda rescues Alyssa from the Whitecloaks and scatters the Prophet's men. They make love for the first time. Ranma-chan and Ukyou-kun arrive in Tarabon. Cerise masters the Breaking Point. Ranma-chan bonds Ukyou. They arrive at a town at the edge of Amadicia. They meet Mikel, an Amadician farmer and his family. Karla, Dora, and Else visit Mikel. Ukyou learns to Dreamwalk, gets message from her past life Sherin Loys Delerini. Kaneda plays Santa on Christmas Eve. By this point, he and Alyssa basically live together. Ranma-chan realizes Akane's been exposed to the taint for months now and freaks. We learn the Taint is starting to warp Kaneda's sense of identity. Ranma-chan and Ukyou arrive at Castle Mist. Day 5 of the Story (May 12th, 1995) --Kasumi comes over and causes herself, and Ukyou and Ranma's left behind halves to be sent to Randland. Later in the day, she returns (events of Chapter 7). Cologne acts to send Shampoo to Randland. Cologne goes and talks to Happy. December 26th-New YEars, 999 NE Randland --Events of Chapters 5-7. The Bowl is found and used. Ebou Dar falls to the Seanchan. Nyn, Elayne, and Company (Aes Sedai are Adeleas, Vandene, Sareitha, Careane, Merilille) to Andor --January 1000 NE of Randland -January 1 (Taisham 10th): Kaneda proposes setting up the Hall as teachers for Rand's channelers. Rand watches one of Kaneda's MA training sessions. Ranma, Ukyou, Min, Alyssa, play strip poker. ^_-. Alyssa faces off with Samitsu. Mat is in the hands of the Seanchan. That night, Ukyou enters Alyssa, Akane, and Ranma's dreams. Bair spots her. -January 2: Various cursed people test each other for channeling skills in their other bodies. Rand and Min go to Caemlyn. Mara of House Caselin approaches Ukyou about their warrior society. Ukyou reads interesting things at the Library. Cadsuane approaches Kaneda. Akane makes a deal with the Wise Ones. Sorilea visits the Foxes. Malindha has a foretelling. --January 5: Alyssa, Tyr, Perrin, Faile, Annoura, Berelain, Seonid, Masura, various wise ones, head for Ghealdan. Balin and Dor move into the Wandering Woman, meet Thom and Olvar. Rand returns, goes to Illian. Kaneda teaches Male-Female Linking. Taim announces Logain is in the Black Tower and they know how to cure Stilling. Mat gets blackmailed by Suroth. Aran'gar kills Egwene's maids, Meri and Selame. --January 6 (Taisham 15): Egwene meets with the leaders of the opposing army. Talmanes tells her of his intention to remain in Murandy, waiting for Mat. In a meeting of the Hall, Egwene forces them to accept her authority through a declaration of war on Elaida. --January 7: Rand thwarts an assination attempt, recruits a large peasant force that was once part of 'Brend' 's army. --January 8: Alyssa and company arrive at Jheri. --January 9: Ranma and company (Ranma, Lori, Merana, Ukyou, Amys, various Aiel) to Salidar, then Egwene's camp. Kaneda and company (Kaneda, Vanin, Alain, Corwin) to Ebou Dar. Haldane rescues Mattin Stepaneos from Haline Sedai and other agents of Elaida on the river in Haddon Mirk. Egwene argues with Amys about the da'tsang Aes Sedai in T'A'R that night. Ukyou meets with Nynaeve and company in T'A'R. -January 10--Rand launches his first attack on the Seanchan entering Illian. Galad confers with his under- lieutenants and moves west. Egwene takes the Embassy before the Hall. Character Notes: Abelard--A Mountain man from Amadicia Alain--A veteran soldier, fairly old (55). "a grizzled old man with a bald head and a thick grey mustache ". Well muscled. Deep brown eyes. Born NE 944. Fought in the Aiel War (976-978). He is long on strength and endurance, short on speed. One of the five best of Kaneda's martial arts students. He also knows how to make drums and is good at it. Sits on Kaneda's Council. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Has nearly Egwene/Elayne level strength. Class 17. Earth and Fire are his strong points. Has a Talent for Forging. Originally from Cairhien; became unemployed after the fall of House Damodred. Moved to Tarabon in 980; became unemployed again when the country sank into anarchy. Aleis Sedai--Born 880 NE. Novice--895 NE. Accepted-- 902 NE. Full sister--910 NE. A powerful (Class 13) sister of the Red Ajah. Strong in Spirit and Air. Scarred by Jinai when she led the sisters who gentled him, but it was healed. Quite beautiful and takes a predatory interest in men. Takes a proactive interest in gentling channelers. Favors killing them so they can't reproduce. Has a grudge against Jinnai. Does not believe in the Black Ajah. Aleis Sedai was discovered to have burnt herself out in 980 NE after the Dornar kidnapping disaster and was released from the Tower. Two months later, her remains were sent to the Amyrlin in a box, having been chopped to pieces by some unknown assailant. Alman--One of Kaneda's followers who had once been a stone mason. Helped Kaneda design new walls for Castle Mist. Alvi--Someone whose chicken kept causing legal problems. Alya--An unfortunate wise woman who had been accused untruthfully of channeling by the white cloaks because her cures were a little too successful. Age 33. Born NE 966. One of Kaneda's top five students of Martial Arts. Cerise notes that by New Years 1000 NE, Alya had gone from a terrified herbalist to a strong confident warrior. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Air and Water are her strengths. Has knacks for Healing and Tracking. Class 11 channeler. She thinks P-chan is cute. Being courted by Balin. She is Amadician, with shoulder length brown hair and hazel eyes. Her figure is becoming well muscled. Alyce--One of the little girls of Castle Mist, who Kaneda gave a doll for Christmas. "The doll looked sort of like Nabiki, and sort of like Rainbo Brite and sort of like Scooby Doo. Kaneda was good at the power, but he'd never been good at sewing, even with Alyssa helping." Alyssa Cova--Born NE 978. Became a Novice in 991 NE. Met Ranko in the Tower. Failed the Accepted Test deliberately; didn't like the discipline. "I grew up in Gheri, a small farm village in Ghealdan. For some reason, my village produces a LOT of Aes Sedai; there's at least four others I know of from my town, and periodically, they send someone to look for potential novices, which is how they found me. My father was a blacksmith and my mother was a weaver from Ebou Dar. He had been a soldier for a while, which is how they met. They used to have the most hideous fights; I sometimes thought the house would fall down. My younger brother and I would go hide in the smithy. Jarel is still there; he's my father's apprentice. He's seventeen." Her father is named Jherod (born 956 NE), her mother is named Nina (born 957 NE). "She had long blonde hair, running down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. She was dressed in her usual red and black dress, although she wasn't wearing the hood and cape that she often did. She shivered a little in the cold air. Her eyes were blue and she was quite beautiful, he suddenly realized. She always seemed nervous, as if she expected someone to jump on her." In girl form, she is 5'7, three inches taller than Akane, and has a slender figure. Boy type Alyssa is about four inches taller (5'11), almost as tall as Akane's father, and a good seven inches taller than Akane. "He was one of the skinniest men Akane had ever seen. He might have even lost weight from the transformation. His hair remained a bright yellow, and the same length and style, much longer than any man that Akane had seen in this world, although she had heard that Kandorian men had long braids. While Akane's boy body was even more muscular than she was, Alyssa's had only a little muscle tone, no more than her girl body." She wears elaborate dresses she makes herself, when she can. She spent seven years as a novice. While not too strong in the power (she was class 10 at the time), she learned quickly. She has studied what happens to men who channel. "While she had never met a red she liked, she respected them for being brave enough to face rampaging powerful channelers and for guarding the world from another breaking." She had several scungy boyfriends through that time, usually tough people she hoped could protect her; she remained scared of everything and sisters trying to scare her fear out of her didn't help. Normally, Alyssa would have stayed a novice several more, maybe many more years, however, elements in the Red Ajah suspected she was one of the novices to whom Mayle Sedai had passed on knowledge of the Dornar incident and decided to press for her being offered the chance to take the test in order to wash her out so she could be killed quietly out of sight. However, this didn't quite work out right, as Alyssa WANTED to wash out. (She also had missed the class, feeling sick and not making it in time.) Alyssa got out just a little before the Tower Coup and tried to head home, only to end up having to flee first the Prophet's men, then Whitecloaks. She ended up in the Mountains of Mist at Castle Mist, where she fell in love with Kaneda. She became a member of Kaneda's council, and his/her lover. She was one of those who bargained with the Foxes, and as a result of her wishes, she now changes sex (but cannot channel in male form) as a Jyusenkyoite and she is now a Class 20 channeler, able to go toe to toe with the Forsaken. A pale Accepted from Arafel. She has shiny black hair and is skinny. Blue eyes. She heard Mayle's secret. No one ever accused her of thinking before she spoke. Class 10 channeler. Air and Water. She knows a trick for Eavesdropping she frequently employs, and another one for shouting REAL LOUD. A future Blue, she hopes. Balin--Born 972. Male Ebou Dari peddlar. Twin brother of Dor. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Above Average Strength in the Power. Class 11. Earth and Fire. Talent for making cloth, but thinks of it as women's work. He is handsome and is trying to court Alya. He has short black hair. Runs his hands through his hair when aggravated. His mother knows Setalle Anan (She, Alys, makes and sells pots and pans. They have an aunt named Eani who is a Wise Woman; their father, Andra, is a fisherman.) Basel--Born 969. A male Taraboner Peddlar. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Class 13. Earth and Spirit. He has a talent for Earthshaking. " Basel had been a peddlar, and he still dressed like one. He had a thick black moustache and wore a dark green conical cap on top of his curly black hair. He wore a plain white woolen shirt and a slightly more elaborate blue coat over that, with embroidered white scrollwork on the shoulders. Baggy white wool pants completed the ensemble. Hazel eyes glinted with amusement " " Basel had been trying to sell his boots to the Whitecloak who was about to hang him when Kaneda met him; he would likely try to sell something to the Dark One himself if he ever ended up in Shaol Ghul. " Likes Haile. Cerice--a tanner from Amadicia who had angered the Whitecloaks in some way she would not discuss. A White cloak commander (Captain Marton) tried to rape her and she successfully poisoned him with her tanning chemicals. She was the best of the female students of Martial arts. She was taller than many of the men (6 foot 1), and probably stronger too. Can use Chi to augment her strength. Can also do the Breaking Point. Age 25. Born in 974 NE. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Above Average Strength in the Power. Class 11. Very good with Fire and Earth. Now has a Talent for identifying chemicals and poisons. "The Whitecloaks wanted to hang me. I was on the scaffold, along with Alya. The Whitecloaks thought she was an Aes Sedai." Cerice blinked, then laughed. "I suppose they were more right than they knew. Maybe one of them had the Foretelling." She threw back her head and laughed so hard she nearly smacked her head on the wall. "I wonder how many men who could learn to channel end up as Whitecloaks...anyway. I was busy consigning my soul to the Creator and Captain Marton to the Dark One when suddenly, this wagon comes crashing through the Whitecloaks. Captain Gorin tries to order his men to attack the wagon, but then...this figure in dark blue leaps out of the wagon and does a flying kick into Captain Gorin, knocking him into one of the support structures on the gallows and the whole thing FALLS DOWN!" "It fell apart?" "No, fell down. The whole structure just toppled over, so that Alya and I slammed into the ground, which wasn't fun. Then Corwin, Alya's brother, leaps off the wagon and cuts us loose and this Taraboner guy, Vanin, who I thought was some kind of peddlar but later turned out to be a noble fires off a bunch of fireworks and starts shouting about channelers. Crazy Whitecloaks running around trying to find the channelers. We all got in the wagon and went racing off. Then they got their act together and chased us. Well, about seven of them did. So Kaneda jumps out of the wagon and beats them all up." Cham: Born 955 NE. A short, skinny man who is Kaneda's head cook; usually acts like he knows everything. He is Tairen. Commander Ches--Leader of the Whitecloaks sent to suppress Kaneda. Doesn't like taking hostages. Middle Aged--50. Black Hair starting to grey. Corwin--an Amadician teamster. Born 969 NE. "His sister, Alya, was a herbalist and healer who the whitecloaks had accused of being Aes Sedai for some stupid reason. He was tall with dark hair and a broad frame. Kaneda had saved his sister from being burnt, and Corwin would probably hurl himself off a cliff if 'the Lord Dragon' asked him to do so." Corwin was a veritable font of Amadician sayings. Corwin Corey--Born 974 NE. A Taraboner Farmer. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Not too strong in the Power. Class 8. Earth and Fire are his strong points. He knows how to make plants grow (his Talent). Black haired with a thick moustache; still wears a Taraboner veil. Corwin Reador--Warder of Dorine Sedai. Born 933 NE. Warder to Dorine Sedai's aunt Gali from 955 to 978 NE, who passed him to Dorine by consent in 978 NE. Very poor at stealth, at least as Warders go. Dor--Born 972 NE. Male Ebou Dari peddlar. Twin brother of Balin. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Above Average Strength in the Power. Class 11. Earth and Fire. Has a talent for Transmuting. Has short black hair, wears green and blue. His mother knows Setalle Anan (She, Alys, makes and sells pots and pans. AS full sister, went with Karla and Else to capture the False Dragon. She is a Red sister. Dora was tall and skinny, with scraggly blond hair and a large nose. Her light blue eyes usually were bloodshot since she rarely slept well, but they saw far. Knows a Far Seeing Talent. A rather strung out looking Domani. Has more fine control than Else. Not a strong channeler, but a skillful one. Class 9 Air and Spirit are her strong points. Left-handed. She was present at the Dornar Disaster in 980 NE and did penance for five years. Dora Baldo of the Hall of the Servants--Born 975 NE. No relation to Dora Sedai. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. A weak channeler, Class 5. Air and Earth are her strong points; she has a knack for manipulating cloth. She is a tall, ugly but well built Altaran, who has been married twice. Both husbands died within six months of marrying her in duels; she had to flee Altara after the second time, due to the second husband's relatives getting mad at her. A skillful weaver. Doric: Born 976 NE. A young black haired Amadician woodcutter and carpenter, who had organized all their building projects. Sits on Kaneda's Council due to his artisan skills. Dorine Sedai--Of the Green Ajah. She is from Saldea. Long black hair, grey eyes. Born in 943 NE, Novice in 958, Accepted in 968, Full sister in 978 NE. Has two warders--Martin and Corwin. Takes a proactive interest in gentling channelers. Favors killing them so they can't reproduce. Did penance for five years after the Dornar kidnapping disaster. Class 10 channeler. Air and Water. Has a talent for making Lightning. One of those sent to kidnap Rand. Dornar--Born in 963 NE; kidnapped in 980, leading to a famous disaster. The son of two channelers, he was expected to channel, but never did. Fell ill in 995 NE, but refused healing, sick of life as an experiment and object of study. Egwene Shalor--Born 975 NE. She is Amadician; refused to sleep with a Whitecloak Commander who was going to have her burned as a witch when Kaneda saved her. A Channeler; one of those who benefited from Kaneda's bargain with the Foxes. Pretty weak (3); can move small rocks and light small fires. Farmer. No particular Talents, stronger with Air and Water. Eile--Born in 923 NE. A year younger than Jinai, but looks half his age (in 980 NE). She was Taraboner, with hair like honey and bronzed skin. She entered the tower in 937 NE, made Accepted in 945 NE, made full sister by 953 NE. A Class 11 channeler in life. In 959 NE, she burnt herself out fighting a horde of Trollocs in the blight, with Jinai, Janis, and her other warder Tarin. Tarin had sacrificed himself so that Jinai and Janis could get her out of the Blight. Cousin of Patri Sedai. Skillful with knives. Died in 980 NE trying to save her son from being kidnapped; fried by Aleis Sedai. Else--AS Brown. Born 930 NE. Novice--945 NE. Accepted--955 NE. Full sister--965 NE. Has a warder who looks like a cleaned up trolloc (Tomas). Went with Karla and Dora to capture Kaneda. Spirit and Earth are her strong points. Class 12 channeler. Knows a weave that will make books almost indestructible. History, especially that of channelers, is her specialty as a brown. Long brown wavy hair and brown eyes, likes colorful scarves to offset her drab clothing. From Illian. Daugher of a merchant. Elessar--an Elfinn, ancient and grizzled, a collector of toys and games. He especially prized ones which could bring him new experiences. Has 'Polgara' and 'Rita' as captives, using them to power his War of the Wheel Ter'angreal and teaching it to them. Gorton--Formerly a Hundred leader, now a Under- Lieutenant by PL11. Commands four hundreds of novice troops. Thinks the Seanchan are the real threat. He was tall and ugly, with a huge nose, beady brown eyes, and receeding black hair. He was a good organizer, but not noted for his tactical skills. Haile--Born 965 NE. a female Taraboner noble on the run. One of the Channelers empowered with knowledge by Kaneda. Class 5. Like Dora, she wore red silk, although her dress was cut to reveal her figure, unlike Dora's. The dress was simple, except for the pleated sleeves, cut low in front in a v shape and slit up the sides to a little above the knee, probably to allow more motion as well as a view, since the skirt was fairly tight as skirts go. Her hair was dyed a bright red and tied back in a long pony- tail, and her eyes were green. Did penance for five years 980-985 for her part in the Dornar disaster. Class 7 channeler From Tear. Short black hair, hazel eyes. Hugo the Blind--the warder of Katya Sedai, a White. Blinded in 98 NE, he turned to philosophy himself and dictated four major tomes of philosophy still respected by the Whites between 98 and 110 NE. Why his blindness could not be healed is now forgotten. Ishar Ahmid Cho--"Ahh, yes. He thought all of history was a repetition of certain stories; that certain kinds of stories are told over and over, with the names of the players changing, and often the scale of events, but that if you knew the right stories, you could examine any situation and know how it would come out, because each story could only end in certain ways." "Part of his theory was that certain people were linked, playing out similar roles in similar stories, and that by manipulating the person playing role A in story X- -version 1, you could influence the outcome of story X, version 2 by affecting the person playing A in version 2." His body was built like a barrel, and his arms and legs still had well defined muscles, despite the fact that he was nearly fifty now. Married Eile after she burnt out. He wrote an odd little book called 'Strength Through Paradox', the only one of his works to survive. About half of it is actually about whether we are bound by the same moral imperatives in a dream as in reality, but his main point is about how strength can be found in the collision of opposites, in the paradox of two contradictory things both having to be true at once. The Source, for example, is full of both Saidin and Saidar, even though no one who wields it can open themselves to both. Heroes of the Horn are dead, but live. He was middle- aged and ugly as sin, but a decent fighter and knew all about managing meager resources. Wil Vanden--Born 965 NE. Wil Vanden was a farmer from Ghealdan, short with black hair and hazel eyes, dressed in rough wools that made him look out of place in the palace, but which he seemed to prefer over fancier clothing. He was one of the two weakest members of the Hall of the Servants, barely able to do much more than move rocks or light candles, his head full of knowledge he could hardly use; he was one of their best teachers, however, patient and friendly.
